LOCAL EVENTS W. A. Wallace has returned from a business trip to San Diego. Mr. and Mrs. Nagel spent Sunday at Long Beach. John Hartung and wife have returned from a visit of several weeks with relatives and friends in San Francisco. Former Assemblyman Amerige of Fullerton contemplates a trip next month to Honolulu, to be gone several weeks. Mrs. Adolph Rimpau and daughters, Misses Claudina and Agnes Rimpau, returned Saturday from a pleasant two weeks' sojourn at Venice. The Misses Hill will move their millinery store in the room next to A. Nagel's store, on the west. The new premises will be opened Oct. 1st. Adolph Rimpau made a trip to San Juan a few days ago. Adolph contemplates the erection of a modern new residence on his property at the corner of Center and Olive streets. Gerald Sandilands has a new son and heir at his residence, the new member of the family having arrived on Monday week. Mr. Sandilands is receiving congratulations on the new addition to his family. P. P. Hatzfeld and wife are at Newport Beach for two weeks. In the absence of the former, his pharmacy is in charge of Stanley Whitlock, an experienced young druggist from San Francisco. George Boyd has a force of 125 hands at the cannery putting up a fine grade of peaches. Several carloads of peaches arrived on Monday, making it necessary to work the force until midnight. The court will have a fountain in the center, and the building will be one of ornamental design. Contractor Lagman is preparing the plans which will be ready for the contractor by the first of the month. Theodore Blumhardt died at the Patton asylum on Sunday morning at 8 o'clock. The remains were brought here on Monday evening and interred on Tuesday under the auspices of the Turnverein, of which deceased had been in his lifetime a member. Blumhardt resided here for more than twenty years, and some two years was committed to the asylum, being in feeble health mentally. He is held in kind remembrance by many old-time friends who gathered at his bier to mourn the departure of one who in his life had not an enemy in the world. This, Mr. Schwartz says, will be cut out, and this city placed in the most favored class. The two corresponded for a time, but after Mr. Asher came to California they lost track of one another. On Saturday Mr. Asher received a telephone message from Dr. Wilner, who was in Los Angeles and said he would arrive here the following day. A very pleasant visit was enjoyed by both gentlemen. The body was brought to Santa Ana on Tuesday for interment. The unfortunate young man was widely known as a bright student, and his untimely death is cause for sincere regret. After services Sunday at the Catholic church preliminary steps were taken toward the organization of an order of the Knights of Columbus. The new order will start out with a membership of over thirty, and will be permanently organized during the next two weeks. Chris Gelderman and wife are at San Diego for a brief outing. Reports received by the California promotion committee from Colvin B. Brown, manager of the eastern bureau, recently established in New York, show that good work is being done in the way of interesting easterners in California. Many callers go to the headquarters of the bureau, where full information about all parts of California is given, together with literature from all parts of the state. In addition to the distribution of literature from all counties, Brown is arranging for a series of lectures throughout the east, illustrated with lantern slides, showing the peculiar features of each county, so that a clear and comprehensive knowledge may be gained by the listeners of the whole State of California.
