Tramp's Murderous Assault Charles Schindler, the well-known cement contractor, lies seriously injured at his home as a result of an assault made upon him by a tramp at his residence on Thursday afternoon. Mr. Schindler is suffering from a fracture in the skull above the right ear, as well as other painful bruises. On Saturday paralysis affected his left side and his condition was critical. On Monday he rallied and if no complications intervene he will probably recover. Mr. Schindler drove to his home on the afternoon of the assault, about 4 o'clock. He beheld the trump, whose name is Michael Reilley, in the back yard filling a bottle of water at the hydrant. He was ordered off the premises, when he hurled the bottle at Schindler. The latter alighted from his vehicle, taking the buggy whip with him, and approached Reilley, again ordering him to leave. Reilley immediately began an assault, striking Schindler with a heavy pair of iron pincers, knocking him down and kicking him. Schindler's skull was fractured and he was otherwise badly beaten. Reilley started up town leisurely. He was followed by one of Schindler's employees. When the two reached the center of town Marshal Steadman was informed of what had happened, and work well for a time, when he by the irregular motion of chinery, that something wicked saw Edwards' dismembering below. When the two reached the center of town Marshal Steadman was informed of what had happened, and placed Reilley under arrest. He was locked up in the city jail. On Saturday Constable Llewellyn took the prisoner to the county jail. The assault aroused no little indignation and for a time talk of lynching was heard. Reilley's examination was set by Judge Howard for Friday morning, but if Schindler's injuries are such that he cannot appear in court the case will probably be postponed. Death Lurked In the Welfpit Robert Edwards, a machinist in the employ of Allinson Bros., was killed in the wellpit at the Alex Johnson ranch on North street at 4 o'clock on Friday afternoon. His clothing was caught in the revolving shaft, and his right arm wrenched from the body. His ribs were crushed, and he lived but a short time after being taken from the pit. Edwards went to the ranch to repair the pump and had completed the repairs when he asked Mr. Johnson, who was in the pit with him, to go to the engine house and start the machinery. Johnson climbed out of the pit and started the machinery. All seemed to The Flaky SUNRISE FLOUR Is the only Flour; we are sole agents All kinds of fruits, melons and vegetain season.
