City Council The city trustees at their meeting on Thursday evening opened five bids for furnishing the municipality ten cars of crude oil for street sprinkling purposes, and listened to an entertaining discussion by oil men as to the merits of their respective bids. The Standard company seemed to have a shade the best of the argument, offering to furnish oil at 57 cents per barrel of 42 gallons aboard tank cars at Anaheim. The gravity of this oil being high, as compared with the others, the board, after a lengthy discussion, decided to reject all bids and readvertise. J. A. Martin of Los Angeles, representing a company of bond buyers, addressed the board in reference to purchasing the issue of $48,000 of bonds recently voted by the city. He was willing to buy the bonds at par, with accrued interest, and pay a premium of $250. Mr. Martin observed that on account of the San Francisco disaster bonds were not bringing premiums in any overly large sums. The board declined to enter into a contract with Mr. Martin for the purchase of the securities, but decided to advertise for bids. A number of bond buyers have sent inquiries here relative to the bonds, and it is thought they will bring a fair premium.
