GREATER ORANGE COUNTY.
The Los Angeles city and county consolidation commission will hold a meeting in that city tomorrow evening, at which the committee on boundaries will report what is expected will be accepted as a permanent description of the limits of the proposed consolidated city and county. Our information is that the limits will be much smaller than was originally anticipated, some reports having it that the southerly line will be placed at Old instead of New river.
This is an important matter for Orange county and should engage the serious attention of her progressive people. In all probability the territory to be excluded from Los Angeles county in the south will be annexed to Orange county. This take business away from media line.
Despite earnest entreaties, Cannon continues his request to permit the calling up of the resolution in the house reason he gives is that if government takes possession, thing will be a demand for appropriations for roads and improvements.
Gillett will see him morning for a final decision is expected to be adverse.
Speaker Cannon is also in the path of Repress Smith's bill authorizing removal of the San Diego station from the naval station. There is no opposition to this measure in the House Smith cannot get recognition.
Uncle Joe has not given sons for his refusal, but his of Admiral Bradford is believed something to do. Bradford was formerly chief navy department equipment eau and had charge of the stations, established and including one at San Diego speaker fought Bradford's call for money to establish the stations as unreasonable. refuses recognition of the signed to enable the department establish a coaling station of Loma.

This is an important matter for Orange county and should engage the serious attention of her progressive people. In all probability the territory to be excluded from Los Angeles county in the south will be annexed to Orange county. This territory embraces the town of Whittier and a dozen other ambitious places, having a property valuation of probably five millions. We already know that Whittier is to a man in favor of inclusion into Orange county, and as solidly opposed to going into the proposed new county of San Antonio. With Whittier included in this county, all the territory south and east of the San Gabriel river must necessarily follow her. As that city favors us with such unanimity of sentiment, it would seem the time was ripe for the inauguration of a strenuous campaign in support of the annexation of this rich and populous territory.
The people of the northern portion of Orange county have been alert for months, have held meetings to discuss this subject and have kept themselves informed upon it.
The Santa Ana chamber of commerce, the one organization in this county which should have this most at heart, continues fast asleep, oblivious to all its surroundings. It has done nothing to secure the addition of that territory to Orange county. It was invited to send delegates to the recent Whittier meeting, and telephone messages were sent urging them to be present. However they came not. Come, Mr. Scott, isn't it time Santa Ana sat up and took note of what is going on about her?
The election to vote boils $69,000 for municipal institutions occurs April 14th. Ing so closely upon the heel city election on the 9th, but little interest has attached it; in fact, it seems to have forgotten in the matters of personal nature to be voted on Monday next. Yet the sitions are as important they were last winter, when ground was gone over fully time of the anticipated hold the election in November. Count of an error in publication call, the matter dropped, to be taken up again later date. Our advice to ourers today is precisely similar that hitherto given them. Public improvements, every them.
The fact that E. B. ROUGH SLEDDING.
Two California measures are having rough sledding in congress. The Yosemite valley recession resolution was recently the subject of a warm controversy in the senate committee on forest reservations and protection of game.
Senators Perkins and Flint and Representatives Gillett and Needham were present to plead the bill’s cause, but Senator Kittredge of South Dakota objected strenuously and the matter went over.
Some of the opposition to this measure is credited to the influence of the electric road from Alameda to Yosemite. The reason for it is found in the provision of the Gillett resolution changing the south-western boundaries of the park so as to permit Huntington’s electric line from Fresno to approach within eleven miles of the Yosemite valley wonders. This road would conspire to bring this state of affairs about. Yet ourselves impelled to say, the less, that never has the case a more competent, more painting or more obliging official books are models of neatness the intricate municipal action made necessary by the constant increasing growth of the city accurate and complete. His unanimous re-election a reward of merit to a capable intelligent official.
A vote for Harry Spielman city marshal will be a vote upright and honorable young whose courage will fit him duties of the office to which pires. Spielman pledges to raid the blind pigs in town put them out of commission a crying shame these pigsties permitted to conduct their business, open and notoriously out molestation, year in and out, by the municipal authority. Mr. Steadman has held down office of city marshal for forty years. He would make an ardent bank president. Given man a show. He is the son old soldier, is a member of
iness away from the Alabe.
The earnest entreaties, Speakon continues his refusal to
the calling up of the Yosemtion in the house. The
gives is that if the govtakes possession, the next
will be a demand for big appons for roads and other
ments.
He will see him Monday
for a final decision, which

An important transfer of railway
and electric lines, involving about
$450,000, was recorded in San
Diego this week. All the interests
of E. S. Babcock in that city, consisting of trolley lines and a steam
railway to La Jolla were made over
to the Los Angeles and San Diego
Beach Railway company, or in
other words to the Huntington interests. The intention is announced
to construct electric lines from Los
Angeles to Tia Juana, on the Mexican border. This latest transaction confirms the truth of all the
rumors of the past year, that Huntington proposes to connect Los Angles and San Diego by trolley, and
it is for this purpose that thou
ands of acres of watersheds have
been purchased along the San Luis
river, and at other points between
San Diego and Los Angeles. E. S.
Babcock, director and heavy stockholder in the Los Angeles and San
Diego Beach railway, states that
the matter of acquiring rights of
way and franchises for the road to
Los Angeles will begin immedi
ly, which is interpreted to mean
that the financing of the enterprise
is well in hand and that actual construction will be commenced when
instructions to voters
To vote a straight ticket, stamp a cross (X) within the circle under the party heading.
To vote a split ticket, that is, for candidates of different parties, stamp a cross (X) in the voting circle at the head of your party ticket, and a cross (X) after each candidate, not on your party ticket, for whom you desire to vote, or stamp a cross (X) for each individual candidate for whom you desire to vote, and Do Not Stamp your party voting circle.
When two or more candidates for the same office are to be elected and you desire to vote for candidates for that office who are on your party ticket, and also for candidates for that office who are not on such ticket, stamp a cross (X) after the names of all the candidates for that office for whom you desire to vote, whether they be on your party ticket or not. Where a party has made no nomination for an office, the space for that office in the party column is omitted on this ballot.
If a party ticket does not contain the names of candidates for all offices for which the voter may vote, he may, if he vote the straight ticket of such party, vote for candidates for such offices so omitted by stamping a cross (X) in the voting square opposite the names of the candidates for such office on any other ticket, or by writing the names, if they are not printed upon the ballot, in the blank column under the title of the office. To vote for a person not on the ballot, write the name of such person, under the title of the office, in the blank column, and do not stamp a cross (X) after the name written in the blank column. All marks except the cross (X) are forbid-
to bring this happy affairs about. Yet we feel compelled to say, never-at least has the city had competent, more pains-tak-e obliging official. His models of neatness, and state municipal accounts, necessary by the constantly growth of the city, are and complete. His vol- annual reports are works in his correspondence, to talk a bird off a bush. Nonsu re-election will be of merit to a capable and official.
For Harry Spielman for real will be a vote for an honorable young man, age will fit him for the office to which he as-selman pledges himself blind pigs in town and out of commission. It is name these pigsters are to conduct their illicit men and notoriously with- nation, year in and year municipal authorities. Man has held down the city marshal for fourteen years would make an excel- president. Give Spiel- w. He is the son of an is a member of Com-
(X) in the voting square opposite the names of the candidates for such office on any other ticket, or by writing the names, if they are not printed upon the ballot, in the blank column under the title of the office. To vote for a person not on the ballot, write the name of such person, under the title of the office, in the blank column, and do not stamp a cross (X) after the name written in the blank column. All marks except the cross (X) are forbidden. All distinguishing marks or erasures are forbidden and make the ballot void.
If you wrongly stamp, tear or deface this ballot, return it to the inspector of election and obtain another.
