Irrigation In California
The Secretary of the Interior has declared that cultivated lands acquired by the government for reservoir sites may be leased during the period of construction of irrigation works, provided there is no interference with the use and control of the lands.
His decision also permits the leasing of lands withdrawn from entry. This decision will assist the reclamation service in securing economical construction, by enabling it to purchase supplies near construction camps for men and live stock, as well as obtaining revenue from leased lands.
The future of Federal irrigation work in California is imperiled to some extent by the recent action of the senate in approving the resolution to divert $1,000,000 from the future receipts of the reclamation fund for the construction of drainage works in the Red River Valley, N. D.
California is concerned in this legislation, as the plans already approved for construction of the works by the government in the state call for larger appropriation from the reclamation fund than is immediately in sight, and if future receipts are to be cut off, work will be jeopardized to that extent.

The Anaheim Gazette states Editor Clarke, of the Riverside will be a candidate for the Republic nomination for State Treasurer. Clarke would undoubtedly be a man for this place, although it seem almost impossible for an edi be the custodian of any large amount of money.
Vinol is fast superseding old-fashioned cod liver oil and emulsions because, without a drop of oil or disagreeable feature, it contains all the medicinal elements of cod liver oil, actually taken from fresh cods' livers. By our process the oil, having no value either as a medicine or food, is separated from the medicinal elements and thrown away. Unlike old-fashioned cod liver oil and emulsions, Vinol is deliciously palatable, agreeable to the weakest stomach, and therefore unequaled as a body builder and strength creator for old people, puny children, weak, run-down men and women, after sickness, and for all pulmonary diseases. Everything Vinol contains is named on the label.
OUR GUARANTEE—We have such faith in VINOL that if you will take it we promise if it does not benefit or cure you we will return you your money without question. We take all the risk.

He Saw the Joke.
"One day," says an American, "I walked into a bookshop in the Strand and asked for Hare's 'Walks In London.' In America the book is sold in one thick volume. The clerk brought it in two. 'Oh,' I said as I looked at them, 'you part your 'Hare' in the middle, do you?' 'I, sir?' he said, with a bewildered look. 'Oh, no, sir!' I saw he didn't see the joke, so I didn't explain, but bought the books and went away. A week later I went to the same shop. As soon as the clerk saw me he rushed from the back of the shop, laughing vociferously. 'Good!' he shouted. 'Capital! Part your 'Hare' in the middle! That's capital, sir, capital!'" London Tit-Bits.
Love's Grammar.
"I wish I dared to ask you something, Miss Helen," said Percy, with trembling voice and wabbling chin.
"Why don't you dare to ask it?" the maiden said demurely.
"Because I can see 'No' in your eyes."
"In both of them?"
"Y-yes."
"Well, don't you—don't you know two negatives are equivalent to an—How dare you, sir? Take your arm from around my waist instantly!"
But he didn't.
