THE COUNTY ROUNDABOUT Buena Park Shipments of condensed milk, the famous Lily brand, continue to go out from the factory here, six and seven carloads a week being the allotment forwarded to markets of the world. The factory is being overhauled and repaired in all departments and new machinery is being installed. Beginning the first of the year it is confidently expected the factory will be in shape to handle a larger quantity of milk than ever before and a new era of prosperity will pervade the land. A carload of fresh milk and cream is now being shipped daily to the Los Angeles markets, but the factory will consume this quantity and more when the new order of things prevail the first of the new year. With the season opening so auspiciously, with the bountiful rainfall and a plentiful supply of feed for stock, the lot of the farmer ought to be truly a happy one. Large quantities of hay is also being shipped from this station, several carloads going out weekly. The hay is of unusual good quality and commands top prices. The plot of ground between the factory and the railroad track for a considerable distance is being filled in and leveled preparatory to planting a lawn and shrubbery. The railroad company is furnishing the earth for the fill-in and the factory will keep the plat in artistic shape. Improvement is the watchword. Rumors of electric roads fill the air but no one at this time can speak with authority. No doubt it will be a year before anything is doing in that line anywhere in this vicinity. That more Huntington Beach A warrant was issued by Seely for the arrest of John Good, the charge of violating the antiquity ordinance. He was taken into custody by Constable Winslow, who also charged a large quantity of weed found in Goodell's place of birth. He has been here several months and said to have done a thriving business, which was carried on under his name of a restaurant. His heart takes place before Justice Seeley on Wednesday. Information that the contract been let for construction of the dist barnacle is being discussed much satisfaction by residents he will doubtless be of pleasing to many people elsewhere in Southern California. The principle contract awarded to Martin & Huber, both local men. The total cost will exceed $10,000. Martin & Huber have the contract for the De Rest Home, to be built adjointed to barnacle. Rumors of electric roads fill the air but no one at this time can speak with authority. No doubt it will be a year before anything is doing in that line anywhere in this vicinity. That more electric railway building will be done in this county is predicted by knowing ones and there is business awaiting such enterprise. The Park people are anxious to be on an electric line. A rumor gains credence that a route has been selected which will traverse along a line somewhere between Cypress and Benedict and enter Anaheim on the west, go through Center street or Broadway and connect at Orange. McKaughan sold a team of Wilkes colts in Los Angeles this week for $500. Conductor Crowley is in charge of the local train on this division. Conductor Lester has been transferred to the Alamitos run. The musical voice of Head Brakeman Horton still reverberates through the local pullmans at each recurring station, and a jolly good fellow is he. Orange County Brevities A petition has been filed with the county clerk asking that Fullerton be divided into two precincts. James Crawford who with his partner purchased 300 acres of land in Inyo county a year ago for $10,000, has sold the property with its water rights to the city of Los Angeles for $12,500. He says in addition to making $2500 profit on the place the crop netted him $3000. The Eastern Star lodge of Fullerton has elected the following officers to serve the ensuing year: Miss Elsie Bradford, worthy matron; Jesse Chilton, W. P.; Miss Rubie Crowther, associate W. P.; Mrs. Carrie E. Ford, secretary; J. R. Gardiner, treasurer: Mrs. Rich. conductress, and Miss Rose Robinson, associate. Whether the cabbage growers receive $10, $15 or $20 a ton they will plant a large acreage. Whether the cabbage growers receive $10, $15 or $20 a ton they will plant a large acreage. Last year there was only one bid for the crop, that of the California vegetable union. The union will be in the field for the output again this year, and Manager Vail for Cobb of Los Angeles says he will also go after a good share of the crop. Vail has sold to local growers 150 pounds of seed at $1 50 a pound, and this will plant hundreds of acres. Placentia peanut growers state that the recent rains did but little damage to the crop. Messrs. Brewer, Wright, Tissot, Almes, Berkinstock and Dahlman are cultivating twenty acres each and believe there will be a good profit in the crop. Thousands of dollars have been made in La Habra valley the past few seasons by growing peanuts for the Los Angeles market and it is claimed the Placentia upper lands are suitable for this industry. W. E. Barber and Miss Jennie Boswell left for San Diego early in the week to be married. Barber is a son of Manager Barber of the Santa Fe oil well properties and Miss Boswell is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Boswell. The Boswells opposed the marriage, claiming that Jennie was under age. Mr. Boswell stated they will not be permitted to come to his house when they returned. It is understood that Mr. and Mrs. Barber are not opposed to the marriage. Potato shipments are well under way and the local association lerton has shipped 1000 sack month, making about 2000 sapped for the season and leaving move. When the season first few sacks were sold at $2 50 a 100 pounds. The daily shift Los Angeles are now bring 100 pounds f.o.b. and it is said the association is assured will not drop below this figure mainder of the season. At $ say there is a good profit in ness. Bfind Pigs and Band The editor of the Santa Ana sat up too late at the chamber merce dinner at the Rossmore er night; and on his return to late the next day, feeling his pen in hand and proceeded down to the following effect: "One thing may be set down tain and that is that whenever possibility, there is any chance unfair, to publish something INDABOUT Huntington Beach It was issued by Justice the arrest of John Goodell on violating the anti-liquor He was taken into custody by Winslow, who also took large quantity of wet goods Goodell’s place of business. Lindsey and other, the latter a resident of Nobody is idle who seeks The man or boy who is not upon Santa Ana, the Anaheim Gazette promptly attends to the matter. A case in point was the publication yesterday by the Anaheim paper of the following: "The Santa Ana chamber of commerce gave a banquet at the Rossmore hotel last night in honor of the completion of the electric line into that city. An unfeeling marshal utterly unmindful of the proprieties of the situation, raided the 'blind pig' in the hotel and confiscated 600 bottles of beer and 65 flasks of whiskey. However, the banquet was a large success." "This highly important information, which, by the way, is untrue, relative to the banquet which closed the biggest and most successful celebration ever held in Orange county, is all that the Anaheim Gazette has on that subject. And the force of the item is somewhat destroyed when one realizes that the Gazette containing it was published and in the postoffice at Santa Ana hours before the banquet was held. It follows, therefore, that the Gazette editor was just a little too previous in his allusion to the banquet held 'last night' in Santa Ana. "The Anaheim Gazette would do well to realize how the front door steps of Philadelphia are kept so clean and neat. Every man attends to his own." The Blade editor seems to be quite touchy upon the question of blind pigs. He seems to be at much labor to make a mountain out of a molehill, and he will probably get well. If the item about the pig is untrue, what of the fine of $300 imposed upon the Rossmore porter for conducting one of these indigenous Santa Ana products. We think that when the Blade man recovers he will find that our statement is true. If the Gazette anticipated the success of the banquet, at any rate the Blade will admit we hit it off pretty near right. We would have been there ourselves, only a prior engagement intervened. About the Blade's kind advice, we have put it in our pipe and are smoking it. We hope the Blade editor may recover from the University of California The distribution of the 8000 catalogues containing the complete list of graduates of the University of California is one of the important steps of the associated alumni of the university, toward bringing the graduates in the closest touch with its work, interests and needs. The building of the alumni hall is to be one of the first great undertakings of the organization. A glance at the enclosed circular will show the completeness of the system for the bringing together of employers who desire to secure college men, and college men who are seeking positions. Editors are requested to co-operate with us by giving as much publicity as possible to this matter, as by doing so, they will help materially in adding to the effectiveness of the work of the appointment secretary. A copy of the catalogue will be mailed to each editor as soon as they are received from the printer. A complete catalogue of the 6227 holders of degrees from the University of California has just been published by the university at the state printing office in Sacramento and is now to be sent to every graduate. While all graduates will receive a copy free of charge, others may obtain copies from the university at a cost of 25c each. From five to seven 600-pound bales of chile peppers are being shipped out over the Southern Pacific daily to the Los Angeles and San Francisco markets and two carloads were also shipped over the Santa Fe the past few days. Growers report an active demand for the entire output, only a small portion of which has been moved, and they estimate that by February 1st the market selling price will be between fifteen and twenty cents per pound. Some growers have had bad luck in drying their crop, Mr. Bowman, living a mile south of town, losing a shipment worth $1000 by fire. Another grower, a Chinaman, lost several bales a day or two ago in the same way, valued at $800. It is said there is a good profit in the business at even 9 and 10 cents a pound. Up to the present time the chile pepper raisers have formed no association. Strawberry and raspberry plants for sale; apply to W. W.
