Tom Young's string of Petroleum Pumpers got theirs on the local diamond Sunday afternoon, with the Tufts-Lyon team of Los Angeles administering the chastisement. The score was a wee bit topheavy, reading 7 to 3. The Pumpers bit the dust for an opener, and before you could get your think place a working right the enemy in their initial stunt passed three men over the chinaware. The local lucre hunters got busy and began to hedge, for none cared to hike it home, besides it looked like rain. But in the second spasm the oil boys received a bit of consolation when Burke journeyed over to second. Propitiously the sun peeped through the dark-hued clouds and Meats stepped to the plate. Guy swung for the first one and sent the sphere down into deep center for as pretty a homerun as was ever made this side of the Olive bridge, and sending in the man ahead of him. Simons gave the warning cry to his covey and there was no more counting that inning. There was a lull in the visitors' bombardment in the second and third and there was nothing doing of any particular moment. They were shut out both innings, as was also the foothillers, and this was the dope handed the latter until the seventh time up, when Burnett in easy stages made the circuit. Jack received a generous bit of applause for his performance. The ladies waved their handerchiefs at him, and a blush was seen to suffuse his cheek. Southpaw Simons held the local boys down the last two innings and there was no tally getting. The Tufts-Lyon scored in the fourth and again in the eighth.
like to get a second to my mouth said, looking at Berdrow.
Berdrow—What are you going with this man? If he is selling now and paying no license, better to give him a license to the city get the revenue?
Fletcher—No, sir. If this selling liquor without a license the Marshal's business to arrest.
Hart—Why don't you arrest confiscate his goods, as they do her places? A fine of $100 harrors for him. That is only two retail license. He has not been lested for a year. Why don't force the laws?
Berdrow—There is no limit on sale liquor licenses, and I why you deny one man a license give a license to another. In the matter lay over until a meeting.
Schwenckert—I shall not that motion. I'm here for but no action was taken. If the intention is made again, the commerce and people generally be at the city hall to protest another booze emporium in town heaven's sake, haven't we gone near enough of them?
The superintendent of state ported upon laying water pipes and making water tensions with a number of new bills amounting to $158 65 written and ordered paid.

NOTES
Next Sunday the Oil Wells play the Dyar Cline team on the local grounds.
As usual Kid Johnson pitched a good game and fanned 'em easily. He made a sensational left-hand catch of a hot one right off the bat.
Mott, usually one of the best, made a few a little off color, but the season has just opened and he will become acclimated all right in time.
Fuqua in left field made two grand-stand running catches. "Bookie" received the applause modestly and rolled over.
Joe Burke was pressed into service for the right garden. Joe pulled down two sky-scrapers and says he can beat them all if he has a reasonable handicap.
Burnett held down the first sack and caught them all—when they were any where within reach.

Burnett held down the first sack and caught them all—when they were any where within reach.
The Tufts-Lyon team is easily one of the best and on Sunday had a strong line-up. Take Bowman, Simons and Hemus. Say, they don't make 'em any better.
Maurice Ray and Young Champion did the umpiring. Their decisions were fair, but at times a severe case of "rag chewing" would crop out.
A young lady was heard to remark, "I wish Jack Burnett would hit the ball when he makes one of those thousand-pound swings, just to see how far he would send it." Sure, she did, Jack.

yet he has paid no license since November. To grant him a wholesaler's license now would be to put a premium upon his infractions and disregard of law. He has defied the law and is now so doing. It was an injustice to repu table liquor dealers to place burdensome restrictions upon them, exacting a heavy license, and then let this man do as he pleases with his blind pig. It was not right.
Schwenckert again moved that the application be denied. "I'd
