All the employes of the Santa Few wells held their annual outing Oceanside on Saturday. From all ports the day was most delightful spent and all hands join in saying outing was among the best ever ed. The party went down in a pullman, returning to the wells in evening.
Mrs. Fred Smith of Artesia was driving a fractious colt to Los Angeles a few days ago narrowly escaped serious accident by being thrown of the buggy. The young animal fright and bolted, breaking the ness and tilting the vehicle, with result stated. Mrs. Smith finally turned home and her injuries such that a physician was called. Mrs. Lloyd C. Bailey was the son of a petty thief who entered her in Los Angeles during her temporary absence and abstracted from money to the amount of $15 and finger rings, one of them a ring valued at $100. Mrs. Bailey entertaining a number of friends adjoining apartment, but memorials were in and out of the almost constantly. About this the thief entered her apartme though the loss was not discovered till some time later, when on her purse at a downtown store some purchases, she discover money and rings gone. The two-story pavilion at Bay City was destroyed by fire one night last week. The structure was erected at a cost of $3000, the lower floor being devoted to bathrooms and the upper for dancing and other social assemblages. Another pavilion is now in course of erection at Anaheim Landing. The burned building was fully insured. Incendiarism is suspected.
Advancement is the watchward at the Union brewery establishment. The large bottling works department is being equipped with the best up-to-date machinery and a large new malt kettle is being installed. The brewery is a hive of industry and the product turned out is sold all over the state. Messrs. Hessel and Bauer are enterprising citizens and are acquiring quite a competency in their brewery industry.
Billy Brandenburg, Frank Arnold and George Carroll joined the throng that journeyed to Newport on Sunday. While in bathing Arnold had a close call to joining the silent majority. W. C. Warner has had plans drawn for a brick front to his livery stable. It will have a frontage of sixty feet, and work will begin in the near future. The front of the present structure will be moved to the rear of the stable. The new building will contain a store-room to be used as a gents' furnishing goods establishment.
L. Mendelson, well and favorably known hereabout, was up from San Diego this week on a business mission. He represents a company manufacturing the Swan Dry Powder fire extinguisher, which is made in San Diego, and is said to be the best preparation of its kind now on the market. Mr. Mendelson will be in Anaheim again shortly to give ocular demonstration of what the powder does to fire and is desirous of having a goodly number of people out to witness the exhibition.
