Transient advertising $1 per inch per month The GAZETTE is issued every Thursday morning. Entered at the Anaheim Postoffice as second-class matter. The L. P. WIDESPREAD misinformation seems to have existed relative to the effect of the recent decision of the District Court of Appeals in Los Angeles affecting the season for killing doves as prescribed by the supervisors of that county. A Los Angeles newspaper the day of the decision published an article, based apparently upon a wolfful misunderstanding of the nature of the decision to the effect that all the ordinances adopted by the supervisors as to fish and game had been nullified, and an Orange county paper followed suit. On these representations, and upon the opinion of a Santa Ana lawyer, based apparently upon these mistakes in print, many dove hunters in Orange county are said to have been shooting these birds, thus laying themselves liable to conviction and heavy fine. As explained in these columns last week, the decision of the district Court of An- ity so public-spirited and prising. Water is King in eastern California and with it geles will be master of tha tion. Just where the be line will be located it is too early to determine, but competent to speak say probably come to New river will give Orange county a strip of territory, and work that the inhabitants there agreeable to being included county rather than be embarked the proposed new county or na. The matter is one point great interest to our people steps will probably be taken near future to get better ad ed with our cousins in the t referred to. The election called by the trustees of this district for 26th is for the purpose of a special tax of $3000, to provide additional school facilities district. As stated last year school trustees desire to co cement sidewalks about the school houses in the city municipality has construc ment sidewalks in front property adjacent to the school building, and is no paring to do the same wit ence to property adjacent high and primary schools. School trustees desire to have in front and about these county paper followed suit. On these representations, and upon the opinion of a Santa Ana lawyer, based apparently upon these mistakes in print, many dove hunters in Orange county are said to have been shooting these birds, thus laying themselves liable to conviction and heavy fine. As explained in these columns last week, the decision of the district Court of Appeals merely disbarred the ordinance as passed by the Supervisors affecting the open season for doves, the court holding that in limiting the open season for dove killing to one day the supervisors had exceeded their authority; that is all. The other ordinances affecting fish and game in Los Angeles county stand, albeit Justices Allen and Gray submitted an opinion that these also were invalid in that they were out of the jurisdiction of the supervisors. In this opinion Justice Smith refused to concur, and as it required a unanimous opinion to disbar an ordinance, those affecting all fish and game in that county stand, with the exception of that as to doves, in which Justice Smith concurred with his associates. The decision has no effect in Orange county, as dove hunters who break the local game ordinances will probably discover sooner or later to their cost. SANTA ANA's recent cancellation of a $60,000 bond issue, the validity of which was upheld by the Superior Court, amounts practically to a confession that no further effort will be made to install a municipal lighting plant in that town. Santa Ana operates a successful water system, and the added expense of carrying on a municipal lighting service would be nominal. But the lighting monopoly has its tentacles so tightly wrapped about the county seat that soon it will be necessary to get Mr. Gressler's BUENA PARK NOTES Renewed interest is taken in vent of the electric railway through the immediate section. Santa Ana operates a successful water system, and the added expense of carrying on a municipal lighting service would be nominal. But the lighting monopoly has its tentacles so tightly wrapped about the county seat that soon it will be necessary to get Mr. Gressler's permission to strike a match on one's trousers. Contrast with this the action of Los Angeles which has refused an offer of $300,000 annually for a lease of its water system by a private corporation. Moreover, the Angelie burg has on foot a plan to issue bonds in the amount of $23,000,000 to bring water from the Owen's river valley to that city, sufficient for a town of two million inhabitants. Los Angeles looks to the future; Santa Ana has taken a step backward. No little interest attaches on this section to the purpose on the part of Los Angeles to erect itself into a city and county government which will in all probability leave a strip of rich territory to be added to Orange county. With a perpetual flow of 30,000 inches of pure water from Owens river, the city will be master of the situation, and little if any opposition is looked for from the outlying section to casting their lot with a municipal- KOMURA and Witte have hands. Mrs. Roller recently suffered a serious accident at her home but is now well on the way to recovery. While Bally Perry stepped into the confectionery store for a lemon soda on Monday, his team, having been left unhitched in front of the store, started on a wild run for home. Bally gave chase afoot and within two blocks captured the runaways, a spanking pair of bays. Onlookers aver Bally fairly flew, as he is quite a sprinter, and you may judge his speed, as the horses were going some themselves. No damage. PECULIAR DISAPPEARANCE J. D. Runyan of Butlerville, O., laid the peculiar disappearance of his painful symptoms of indigestion and billiousness to Dr. King's New Life Pills. Chamber of Commerce The directors of the chamber of commerce met in regular session on Wednesday evening. Present Messrs. Ahlborn, Michod, Spake and Miller. Special committee Spake and Grim reported having circulated petition for signers looking to the formation of a protection district. Thirteen names were secured to the petition. Every one interested was anxious for the formation of the district, as the present condition of the river bed is a menace to the lately improved property north and east of this city. The matter will come up before the supervisors at their next meeting when it is expected action will be taken for formation of the proposed districts. Committeeeman Miller reported upon the laundry enterprise. He stated that the party who had been looking over the field here with the intention of starting a laundry, had decided not to embark in that business here at present. Mr. Miller was delegated to interview local men and endeavor to start a laundry in our midst. Communication was received from Mrs. J. J.
