County News In Brief Dr. Judson S. Gibbs of South Pasadena, who formerly owned a ranch at Centralia, Clinton Bourn and a Mr. Saxton of Los Angeles are believed to have been lost on the Mojave desert. Dr. Gibbs and party left Los Angeles about two months ago on a prospecting trip among the mountains in the vicinity of the little desert town of Mecca. For several weeks Mrs. Gibbs reared from her husband regularly, the letters being mailed from Mecca, but since June 23 not a word has come to her. Her husband wrote then that he would start on a trip into the desert mountains, and that he would return in two weeks. Six weeks have now elapsed. Mrs. Gibbs wrote to the postmaster at Mecca, asking for information. He replied that he had seen nothing of the men there for a month and that their whereabouts was a mystery. It seemed to be the opinion, he said, that the men had lost their way in the mountains. Mrs. Gibbs is endeavoring to organize a searching party to trace the missing men. Gibbs is an osteopath physician and has traveled over a great part of the world gathering interesting collections of curios for his museum. He has been out of active practice for some time and is not in robust health. As he had some knowledge of the desert there is a possibility that he may be temporarily shut off from communication with his wife. The Modern National Reserve is a new fraternal order, having been organized under the laws of Iowa about two years ago. One thousand dollar, $2000 and $3000 policies are provided for, but few of the latter have been issued owing to the fact that a stipulation is made that the organization is liable only to the amount of one assessment from all policy holders. The membership of the order is sufficiently large to pay a $2000 policy in full.
