It will be noticed that from time when the observations begin in 1898, the declines were continuous and regular throughout the period, which was interrupted during the winter of 1900-1901 by excess of rainfall. During this ter the water level raised two feet but the gain was more than loss fore the beginning of the next season. The decline then continued, although irregularly, until winter of 1902-1903, another year excess in precipitation. Here the profile shows a rise, but age was more than lost before the end of the year. Since that time decline has been rapid. The significant thing about profile—and such other measurements as we have exhibit the phenomena—is that years in which the rainfall has exceeded the age have failed to stop the decline although they have checked its With present developments the decline will continue, raily through years of deficiency rapidly through years of avail rainfall, slowly through years slight excess, and will cease with an amount of excess greater than any that we have had in aade. I suffered for four months with extreme nervousness and lassitude. I had a sinking feeling in my stomach which no medicine seemed to relieve, and losing my appetite I became weak and lost my vitality. In three weeks I lost fourteenth pounds of flesh and felt that I might find speedy relief to regain health. Having heard Wine of Cardui praised by several of friends, I sent for a bottle and certainly very pleased with the results. Within three days my appetite returned and my stomach troubled me no more. I could digest my food without difficulty. Furniture Wall Paper, Cornices, Window Shades, Picture Frames, Upholstery Goods, Paints, Oils, and Glass. There is grave danger that the splendid subterranean reservoirs which have carried communities through the past decade without distress, and have responded so fully to every demand made upon them, may be overestimated. Such supplies are everywhere peculiarly liable to over-valuation for several reasons. Among them is the fact that if the total quantity of stored water be estimated, the figures are so great that thoughtless users immediately conclude that such supplies are inexhaustible. They forget that actually it is a very small part, often no doubt only one or two per cent of this great amount which is, or with present methods, can become available. Again, the fact that these great bodies of gravel are efficient regulators of the supply through rain-fall, responding but slowly to periods of drought or periods of excessive precipitation and showing but slowly the effects of over-use, leads Ayer's Your doctor will tell you that thin, pale, weak, nervous children become strong and well by taking Ayer’s Sarsaparilla. As a matter of fact, close, careful and continual observations should be made of fluctuation in ground water levels, as development proceeds, and these when compared with rainfall measurements, will give a safe scientific basis for the regulation of the acreage irrigated from ground waters. Meanwhile, development must proceed with extreme caution, for obviously nothing worse can hagpen to a community than to be forced to abandon lands which have been reclaimed at a great expenditure of time and capital. Its geographical range is along the Rocky Mountains from Alaska to New Mexico and westward to the Pacific coast. In the United States it is found in merchantable quantity and dimensions on the spurs and eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains throughout southern Montana, Wyoming and Colorado, in the Bitter Root Mountains of Idaho, the Uintah Range in Utah, and in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. The Bureau of Forestry is studying the species throughout this range of its best commercial distribution. Lodgepole pine grows at all altitudes between 3,000 and 10,500 feet above sea level. In the Gallatin Mountains of Montana and in the mountainous country south and east of Yellowstone Park it reaches its largest size at elevations between 4500 and 8000 feet. In Colorado, however, toward the southern limit of its range, the conditions which are necessary to its best growth are found between 9000 and 10,500 feet elevation. Lodgepole pine is valuable, for one reason, because it grows on high mountain slopes, and also on old seed germination of these Lodgepole pine, however, the an impoverished soil, and its seeding capacity and the cones to withstand fire to spread quickly over burns. It adapts itself to most diverse situations, but thrives best there is considerable moist roots accommodate them—the shallow soil common qualities where it grows. At early age this tree produces large quantities, and after years old the seed are generative. The cones sometimes distribute the seeds as they are ripe, though more they remain on the trees with their seed carefully beneath the scales. In these squirrels cut off the trees and hide them away in woods of this region, these more important trees can be produced in many places where they are now virtually extinct. The wood of lodgepole pine is light yellow to nearly white in color, with a coarse but straight grain. It is more resinous than the eastern white pine, but less so than the yellow pines of the South. It is soft and easily worked, and would make excellent finishing lumber were it not for the abundance of small, though hard knots, and for its tendency to warp and check with seasoning. Without doubt the best use of lodgepole pine at present, and the one to which it is most largely put, is for railroad ties and mine props; but to be utilized with the greatest profit for these purposes the timber must first be subjected to preservative treatment. they are ripe, though more they remain on the trees with their seed carefully beneath the scales.
