GAUGE REMOVED AT DIVISION GATE Water Measuring Committee Makes Report of Investigations Up the River. Regular meeting of Board of Directors of A. U. W. Co. Sept. 3, 1904, with following members present: Director Crowther, Bradford, Sherwood, McDermont, and Zeyn. The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. Director Zeyn reported that H. Gunderson wants a gate put in to divide the water between him and his neighbor A. Staehnke, so that both can irrigate at once. Referred to Zeyn with power. The following report of the measurement committee was received and filed and Supt. Porter was instructed to make the measuring gates as therein recommended. The report of the finance committee was received and filed and warrants were ordered drawn in payment of the various demand as therein recommended. The report of the secretary was received and filed. The report of the treasurer was received and filed; it showed a balance in our favor of $4553.47. The following report of the committee of management of the Durkee ranch was received and filed. The superintendent's report was received and filed. A communication from E. Gage et al petitioned that a portion of the north branch ditch be cemented, they to do a part of the hauling. The matter was referred to the superintendent to find out how much they would contribute. On motion the president and secretary were authorized to rent the Yorba reservoir site for the sum of $150. A petition from B. Shearer asking that a syphon crossing be put in at the entrance to his place. He agreeing to pay the sum 50 cents per foot toward the work. On motion the petition was denied unless he will pay the whole expense. Applications on file for the transfer of stock were granted by the board. On motion the chairman appointed plan adopted by the Board, nor is it well or accurately built. The breast gate or weir is constructed of wood. There is no controlling gate to the turn-out, and the overflow is about one inch too high, and is not level. A rough measurement was obtained at the Sand Gate, where the estimated flow was about 475 miners inches. At the Yorba Bridge we found the marks on the gauge had been nearly erased by the water so that the gauge was useless. The average depth of water was measured and found to be 2 feet. By Kellogg's Tables the flow at this point was found to be 1120 miners inches. At the Division Gate we found that the gauge had been removed by some person unknown. A measurement showed that the depth of water over the Division was about 9½ inches, which by Kellogg's tables would give a flow over one half of the weir of about 1250 miners inches. At the Reservoir the weir by she Zanjero's report showed a flow of about 465 miners inches. By a misunderstanding with the Zanjero no measurement was obtained at East Street. Respectfully, G. W. SHERWOOD, JOHN P. ZEYN, Measuring Committee. Superintendent's report, August '04. To the Honorable Board of Directors of the A. U. W. Co. Zeyn, Finance Committee. Anaheim, Cal., Sept. 3, 1904. REPORT OF WATER MEASUREMENT COMMITTEE Board of Directors of the A. U. W. Co., Anaheim, Cal. Gentlemen: — Your Measurement Committee made a trip to the Division Gate on Aug. 24, 1904 for the purpose of inspecting the measuring apparatus recently ordered installed, and of taking a series of measurements at the various stations. At East Street we found that no permanent weir had been installed as ordered. By the old method of measurement, it is impracticable to have measurements taken by the zanjero without great loss of time; and the method itself is a makeshift and not sufficiently accurate to be of use. At the Yorba Gate we found that the stream to the Yorba Ditch was controlled by a plank in the diversion weir, the water running both over and under it making a measurement impossible. This diversion gate to the Yorba Ditch was not constructed according to the Hon. S. C. Smith, candidate for Congress, will deliver four stump speeches in Orange county, at Santa Ana, Orange, Fullerton and this city. Dates will be announced later.
