That Jim McFadden is putting his finger in the senatorial situation appears evident from the occasional newspaper emanations from the county seat. Jim has a happy faculty for handing out information to the scribes, and it is generally an elegant brand of hot air. Anyone without the pale of his august favor is a "machine politician," with an evident purpose of roughshodging it over the party, administering the gag rule and raising Cain generally. Thus a Santa Ana correspondent reports the discovery of a deep-laid plan, on the part of republicans of this county, to apply the "unit rule" to delegates chosen to the senatorial convention, adding that this will deprive the "minority" of a chance of expressing its wish in the premises. The convention at which these delegates are to be chosen is yet some three months off, and no one can foretell its results, unless it be Sunny Jim, the sage of Newport Beach. Of course he knows all about it. He wants to see the senatorial delegates from this county split up between a number of candidates, to the end that the Riversiders, themselves applying the unit rule, may reach forth and annex the golden apple of the Hesperides, so to speak. Is it not true that Jim favors Caldwell's renomination—is it not true that he is the only man in the county who favors Caldwell? So it would appear. Caldwell bolted a republican caucus at Jim's behest, and evidently Jim had rather see an Orange county man beaten than that his Riverside man should go unrewarded for his political sinning. But unit rule or no, the republicans of this county will probably see to it that Orange county is not altogether effaced from the political map in this year of grace.
Are the republicans of the Eighth congressional district going to renominate Congressman Daniels? Already there seems to be a purpose on the part of Riverside people to take his renomination seriously, and probably an active effort will be made on his return from Washington to secure for him, if that be possible, the coveted renomination. Is Daniels a win-

Viceroy Alexieff has tendered his resignation. Alex has been a bum performer.
Col. Langley and his buzum friend Capt. Ford seemed to have been shooed off behind the house.
Half-day sessions for several of the lower grades talked of as a result of lack of school room for the constantly growing population.
Will the democratic county convention meet here on Saturday, instruct for Hearst? W it instruct if Senator White were alive?
W.J. Bryan has hired a Chicago hall and parish respects to Judge Parker. The democrats are planning for the greatest show on earth at their St. gathering.
Walter Parker's visit to this city a day or two put tongues awiggle as to what was doing in Nothing at all, said the Los Angeles boss, only matters and nothing more.
The chamber of commerce will this week have exhibit on display in the Ruhman building. The products will be a fine one and parties visiting should make it a point to inspect it.
Louie Moulton has a breach of promise suit hands. Fannie Mansfield a Los Angeles widow fair plaintiff, and damages are placed at $125,000. Will recall the Weller advice to Mr. Pickwick.

"Weears his whiskers and glasses," says the Ana Bulletin of Mr. Bradford, the romping pen of the Placentia foothills. Gold-rimmed silver-tipped the former. Bradford is a bimonthly telegram from St. Petersburg are repled details of the government's purpose of purifying marine boats to offset effects of Jap vessels' illar construction. Meantime the Japs say but appear to be sawing lots of wood.

Are the republicans of the Eighth congressional district going to renominate Congressman Daniels? Already there seems to be a purpose on the part of Riverside people to take his renomination seriously, and probably an active effort will be made on his return from Washington to secure for him, if that be possible, the coveted renomination. Is Daniels a winner? Can he be elected? These are questions which republicans should ask themselves in all seriousness. He ran 1700 votes behind his ticket in San Diego county two years ago. What are his prospects in his own county? With the party torn asunder as a result of the Hays' scandal and the collapse of the Orange Growers' Bank, the outlook is not brilliant. What effect have these things in the adjacent county of San Bernardino, as well as here in Orange? These are weighty matters which should be carefully considered by those who seem disposed to side with the congressman that he has a vindication coming to him. Suppose Daniels should be renominated and defeated? Then what about his vindication? To renominate him is not to vindicate him. In his election will come the crucial test of that play on words. If he should be renominated and fail at the polls, what then?
Hydraulic engineers in the employ of the government have been engaged this week in testing wells in the section west and south of the city and will probably continue for several weeks. Every well in the neighborhood will be measured, the amount and velocity of the flow determined, depth, size of pipe, time of boring, name of borer, and other data collected. In September a government report will be issued containing a list of these wells, together with all data now being secured. The report will be a valuable one, and its publication will be awaited with interest. Have you noticed Uncle Sam has a friendly feeling toward us here in Southern California? Count upon your fingers, if you can, the number of government professors who have been and are yet with us carrying on investigations and experiments for the good of our farmers and other people.
The Riverside Press seems to lean to the opinion that that county may have a candidate "of its own" for senator, and appears to see an opportunity of carrying out its deep-laid scheme. Thus is the Riversidian appetite for pie again straining at the leash. Our neighbor probably has no objection to naming the congressman and senator, but Orange county may do this very same thing before this cruel war is over. At all events it stands for the senator, and wouldn't mind the congressman either. Caldwell and Daniels will have to vamoose.
There seems to be more truth than poetry in reports to the effect that Anaheim is going to have a sub-power house for the electric railway. Indications multiply that the Southern Pacific railway through this city from Santa Ana to Los Angeles will be converted into an electric road, completing the coast loop by way of Bay
Telegrams from St. Petersburg are replies details of the government's purpose of purifying marine boats to offset effects of Jap vessels illar construction. Meantime the Japs say but appear to be sawing lots of wood.
Mr. Bradford's ten-strike as chairman of cent republican convention has reached Sacramento. Mr. Bradford is a plain matter-of-fact man, lies in cutting out all frills and furbelows, ting down to business with neatness and dispairy.
Morley's bunch of ball tossers are in the north first trip away from home. The bunch is not the runaway record of last season, although it is the front. The bleacherite predicts Morley roughly handled before he returns home when flowers bloom in May.
Messrs. Hessell, Bauer and Fleuhrer, the new of the west end brewery, were at Santa Ana or completing the transfer of the property from proprietor to themselves. Three brewers in town in one day and no earthquake shock climatic disturbances. The next day it rained.
Herr Schaffer, the South Los Angeles sectiononer, while looking in at the shooting some days ago, had the bad luck to get hit by some mischievous boys who made several dollars. As Justice Howard is Schaffer-law, the kids had best look out once or twice Judge may give them a floater into jail.
Most unreasonable are those dispatches Arthur declaring that American and British selts have joined the Jap fleet in bombard fortress. Probably the effects of the shell fire so bad as would follow participation of nectar with Togo's fleet, but it also appears that stands in no immediate need of such assistance.
Rumors multiply to the effect that Electric railway will erect a sub-station for velopment purposes in this city, and that its lantic line from Santa Ana to Los Angeles will be turned into an elec There are many interesting developments in railway checker-board in this part of Oran

There seems to be more truth than poetry in reports to the effect that Anaheim is going to have a sub-power house for the electric railway. Indications multiply that the Southern Pacific railway through this city from Santa Ana to Los Angeles will be converted into an electric road, completing the coast loop by way of Bay City, Huntington Beach and Newport. Sub-stations for power-development purposes will be erected at San Pedro and Newport Beach, according to reports current in well-informed circles, and a third in this city. Let the procession proceed.
The Orange Post, which manifests symptoms of spring colic, says "so far as heard from" republicans of Orange county are favorable to Cap'n Daniels' renomination. Tom Hays, suspended bank, and all? Evidently the Post is not well informed on county political affairs. There may be a disposition on the part of Daniels' friends to force his nomination willy nilly, but among the rank and file of the party no one man in Southern California is so unpopular.
Senator Caldwell, at behest of Jim McFadden, bolted a republican senatorial caucus at Sacramento, walking out after the caucus had decided to support Perkins for re-election. Such actions usually go far toward wrecking a party, and Caldwell will not be suffered to forget it in the coming campaign. A party caucus is sacred—either Caldwell should have abided by its results, or he should not have gone into it at the outset. What business had he in a republican caucus if he did not intend to abide by its results?
Meanwhile Tom Hays languishes in jail, the mythical yarn about his bail bond seeming to have vanished with the air. Daniels will soon be back from Washington, and the boys will soon be in full chase across the political heather. Thomas in jail is a different sort of a performer, very, from the chap tossing money at the birds a short campaign ago.

Congressman Daniels will shortly be Washington, and will fake up the shatter his organization with a view to rounding upation. With Smith of Kern county Ward of San Diego after the job, Booth of bara willing and Chapman of this county tain factor in the fight, the convention plenty of excellent men to select from.
J. W. Hellman is again serving notices at the Landing to vacate. Yet a year or two residents will not recognize their old car Great improvements are had in contemplation most lovely of all beaches, where still and sun hand. Already the electric railway pierces of this watering place, and soon it will be on the most picturesque route of electric railway California. Keep your eye on the Land things are in store for it.
Twentieth century constructive demolition a factor in the coming congressional session Smythe of San Diego is said to have been chance of running again. Smythe's Roosevelt during his canvass of the district ago leaves little doubt as to the character for president this year. But, then, there democrats right here in Orange county who to vote for Teddy and four years more of lican government.
