That is a rare spectacle, the two morning Republican newspapers of San Francisco whining at the action of the State Central committee in upholding the regularly organized county committee in that bailiwick—this year, as usual, torn asunder with its petty and spiteful political squabbles. With a State campaign of overshadowing importance coming on, these two insurgent newspapers have set up a yelping that must sound as music sweet in the ears of the rank and file throughout the State. But what of it? Let them rant and roar. Sure! The campaign will be carried on, if need be, without them.
The purpose of these warrior editors is to seek to defeat the renomination of Gov. Gage. If they can point out one single reason for his defeat, apart from his flat refusal to grant their selfish purpose to dominate the patronage of his office, let them do so. Has not his administration been clean and economical? Has he not redeemed his pledges to the people regarding the keeping of State taxes at a minimum? Was not his stand in the "bubonic scare," which threatened at one time to quarantine San Francisco and the State from the world, such as to meet the approval of these Wise Editors? Is not the fact that he led the party to victory, with one of the greatest majorities in its history, of sufficient importance to command consideration at this time? Is it not good politics to renominate a man who has carried this State by more than 20,000 majority, or should he be set aside because Mr. Spreckels cannot be Police Commissioner, or Mr. de Young United States Senator? Here are two men against 150,000.
Where is this whining and ranting and hair pulling on the part of these menced, and there has been no let up to this moment. But what does all this profit these Wise Men of the North?
Gov. Gage will be nominated for Governor by the next Republican State convention by acclamation. None of these Warrior Editors can hope to prevent the inevitable. No.
Grand Larceny.
The examination of Jose Lopez on a charge of robbing I. M. Cooper of Clair was heard by Judge Shanley yesterday afternoon. The defendant was bound over to appear before the Superior court, with bonds fixed in the sum of $300.
Lopez robbed Cooper in the rear of Conrad's saloon, on Sunday afternoon, while Cooper was sleeping off the effects of his intoxication. He secured between $4 and $5 in silver, a pocket knife, postoffice key and a quantity of tobacco. When he tagged at the chain attached to Cooper's silver watch the latter awoke and chased him. Lopez was the faster runner and escaped.
Next day Mike Lopez, brother of defendant, returned some of the stolen articles to their owner.
Lopez was arrested on Monday while topping beets at Los Alamitos.

BOILER CONTRACTORS ASK FOR CHANGES
Minor Alterations Desired in the Interior Construction of New City Boiler.
The City Trustees on Tuesday evening received a communication from the Parke-Lacy company of San Francisco—the successful bidders for installing the new boiler at the city power-house asking that the round braces called for by the specifications for the interior of the boiler be changed to crowfoot brace of refined flat iron.
Mr. Dickel wanted to know why the change was desired.
The request was referred to the Hartford Steam-Boiler and Inspection company for further advice.
The contract and bond of the Parke-Lacy company was submitted, approved and signed by the chairman. The contract calls for the construction of one 72-inch horizontal tubular steam boiler—the cost to be $2,049, and the same time be installed within 90 days. Failure to have it installed on contract time will subject the contractors to a penalty of $10 per day for each day over time.
The Pacific Surety company of San Francisco is bondsman, in the amount of $1,000.
Clerk Merritt was instructed to write the Hartford Steam-Boiler and Inspection company for specifications for the setting of the boiler.
The board decided to sit as a board of equalization, beginning August 12th and continuing ten days.

Mr. Dickel suggested that the two faucets attached to the pipe supplying the water trough on Lemon street for use on the Fourth of July, be retained for the use of wayfarers who desire a drink of water; one of the faucets to be placed on Los Angeles street, near Center. The suggestions were approved and the Marshal instructed to carry them out.
Mr. Kroeger wrote asking permission to lay a 16-inch cement pipe from Pickett's well to his property, she said to be laid on Center and East street extending under the Water company cement ditch on the latter thorough fare.
The request was granted, providing petitioner leaves the streets in good condition, does not interfere with t

Where is this whining and ranting and hair-pulling on the part of these Wise Editors to end? In the disruption of the party, to the end that the State may be Democratic and that a Democrat may succeed Senator Perkins in the upper house of the national legislature?
We remember the course of these treacherous sheets four years ago, and we remember how they were later quite content to climb into the magnificently appointed band wagon, occupying a rear seat and promising to be good. And they continued to be good until such time as their preposterous demands for patronage were denied. Then the howl (characteristic of San Francisco) com-
