THURSDAY...DECEMBER 22, 1892
A MEETING of the editors of Orange county was held at the rooms of the Board of Trade at Santa Ana last Saturday afternoon to perfect arrangements for the reception of the Southern California Editorial Association, which meets at Santa Ana on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of next month, and to arrange a programme for the visitors' entertainment. It was decided that the afternoon of the first day of the meeting, Tuesday, the 10th, will be devoted to a trip to Newport Landing, returning to Santa Ana in the evening, where the first business session of the meeting will be held. Wednesday morning the editors will be driven in carriages through Tustin, McPherson, Orange, and the foothill country. At Orange a special train will convey them over the Santa Fe road to this city, where lunch will be served, to be followed by a drive to the various points of interest in this neighborhood, including a trip to the sugar refinery, work upon which, it is expected, will at that time have been begun. After the entertainment of the visitors here they will return to their train and be taken to Santa Ana, where another business session will be held in the evening. Thursday will be given up to a trip down into the Independent State of San Juan Capistrano. Here there will be a bull's head breakfast spread for the delectation of the visitors, to be followed by a representation of that harmless diversion, a bull fight. We have it on good authority that at least three Mexicans will be killed, at which the ladies of the party will be supposed to turn their heads. All preparations at Capistrano will be looked after by Alcalde Egan and his staff of sub-editors and bull fighters. This meeting of the association will without doubt be one of the most unique as well as entertaining ever held by the editors, and the indications are that a large attendance will be present, per-
in the newspapers at the time. There are many pieces of property similarly affected, having been sold for taxes in like manner. The sales are all void.
It is reported that two vessels of Admiral Gherardi's squadron, now at Valparaiso, will be retained in the Pacific, owing to the unsettled condition of affairs on the west coast of South America. The condition in Hawaii and Samoa may also be taken into consideration. It is certain that the ships are likely to be more needed in looking after our interests on the Pacific Coast than in taking part in a parade in New York harbor next April.
Target Practice.
Company G's rifle team held their regular monthly shoot for the gold medal offered for the best marksman in the company, at the range on Sunday. Corporal Norman turned in the highest score, 43. The following members have already won the medal: Sergeant Hatfield, four times; J. A. Blair, once; Sergeant R. M. Blair, once; Lloyd Bailey, once; Ed Henderson, once; Capt. Browning, once; S. R. Adams, once; C. A. Norman, once. As it must be won five times in order to be permanently retained, it is liable to change hands many times yet, although Sergeant Hatfield who is one of the crack shots of the company, may get in and win it at any time. Following is Sunday's score.

deletion of the visitors, to be followed by a representation of that harmless diversion, a bull fight. We have it on good authority that at least three Mexicans will be killed, at which the ladies of the party will be supposed to turn their heads. All preparations at Capistrano will be looked after by Alcalde Egan and his staff of sub-editors and bull fighters. This meeting of the association will without doubt be one of the most unique as well as entertaining ever held by the editors, and the indications are that a large attendance will be present, perhaps a hundred or more.
Anaheim must not allow herself to be outdone by her sister cities of the county. We must meet the editors at the train with carriages, and after luncheon, convey them to points of interest hereaway. They will be with us but a short time, and we should make their stay both pleasant and profitable. We can show them resources here and evidences of prosperity unequaled in Southern California. And their visit will redound to the good of our city in a hundred different ways. Anaheim is attracting a great deal of attention nowadays on account of the sugar refinery. This is the time therefore for the editors to come here and help us tell the world what we are doing and have in contemplation. This section will be given such an extensive write-up as will lay entirely in the shade Bob Farrel's celebrated whoop-up of the late lamented Governor Waterman.
Later details of the programme will be given in another column.
We are in receipt of a communication from an irate gentleman of Placentia, who takes Superintendent of Schools Greeley sharply to task for his negligent action in failing to appoint a School Trustee for that district in place of Dr. Tombes, who recently removed with his family to Los Angeles. Two petitions have been submitted Mr. Greeley, one asking that W. M. McFadden be appointed to the vacancy, and the other recommending Theo. Staley. Although we understand these petitions have been in his office for some time, Mr. Greeley has not as yet agreed to make the appointment. Our correspondent charges him with preferring to remain "upon the fence" rather than carry out his duty in the premises. Both candidates are catimable gentlemen and fitted to fill the position, and all that remains is for the Superintendent to do his duty, get down from the fence, and make the selection.
The sugar refinery is making excellent headway. Matters have progressed so far that a grand jollification meeting will be held at the Opera-house on next Wednesday afternoon. Yesterday there were twenty-seven hundred acres bought and deeded into the refinery corporation, and the necessary remainder will in all probability be gathered in this week.

After 15 Years.
"For 15 years my mother has been troubled with milk leg. She went to different parts of California, as persons said the climates might help her, but it was of no avail, and I being a druggist, thought I would get her to try Hood's Sarsaparilla. Before she had taken half a bottle she said she was improving, so she continued until she took half a dozen bottles, and now she is perfectly well. For nearly fifteen years she was unable to walk around, but now she can walk as well as over." T. F. Blake, San Francisco, with C. F. Richards & Co., Wholesale Drugsista.
Like a New Croature.
"I have been for years trying to get help for that terrible general debility and weakness so common to women. Within a year I have taken ten or twelve bottles of Hood's Sarsaparilla, and I am now feeling like a new creature." Mrs. F. B. Ross, Marlin, Texas.

The site for the refinery has been selected, and work upon the artesian well began yesterday. Work on the refinery will begin in the early part of next month, and the refinery will be up and in running order in time to handle the coming season's beet crop. We have been a long time at it, but when we start out for anything it has got to come.
The farmers of Placentia and Fullerton have done an exceedingly wise thing in organizing a farmers' union for the disposal of farm produce in bulk. They have on hand some seventy-five acres of cabbage, which will be ready for delivery early next month, and by advertisement elsewhere in this issue they call for bids for the purchase of the same. Agents for commission houses have been among them offering $15 per ton, but no sales have been effected at that price. Good cabbage ought to bring at least $20 per ton and we hope our farmer friends will get every cent of it. There is no reason why the middlemen should reap the bulk of the farmer's profit, and the union does not propose they shall do so in future.
Information from Santa Ana is to the effect that considerable of a sensation was caused in the Superior Court on Tuesday in the case of Kilty va. the State Loan and Trust Company of Los Angeles, an action brought to quiet title. The plaintiff claims a title under a tax deed to forty acres of land situate below Santa Ana, which was sold for taxes in 1889. Judge Towner holds that the publication of the delinquent tax list, in February, 1890, was void, the defunct Free Press, which secured the contract for the printing of the list, not complying with the law. The matter was referred to
