SURE.
My thoughts go out like spider threads
Cast forth upon the air;
Filmy and fine and floating wide,
Caught by whatever may betide,
To seek thee everywhere.
In league with every breeze that blows,
All ways, all holds they dare;
North, east or south or west they fly,
And sure, though winds be low or high,
To find thee everywhere.
Love still is lord of space and fate;
All roads his runners fare;
All heights that bar, they laughing climb,
They find all days the fitting time,
And highways everywhere.
—Auna C. Brackett in Scribner's.
Great Men and Some Queer Repugnances.
A great deal has recently been said upon the discomposure of our commander in chief in Malta at the presence of a cat. This is no novelty, for some of the bravest and most distinguished men the world has ever seen have entertained a similar antipathy. The Emperor Ferdinand would bleed at the nose if he heard a cat mew. Henry III of France and the Duke of Schomberg had similar weaknesses. This dislike to the gentlest and most domestic of animals is unaccountable. But there have been much stronger aversions. Erasmus, though he lived at Rotterdam, was thrown into a fever if he smelt fish. Joseph Scaliger had a perfect horror for milk.
Cardan grew sick at the sight of eggs, however fresh. Uladislaus, king of Poland, was similarly affected if he saw an apple. Boyle could not listen to the sound of water running through a pipe; his house was probably unprovided with the newest improvements. La Mothe Dayer could hot endure music, though "he took the liveliest pleasure in thunder." John Rol, of Alcantara, would swoon if he heard the word lana (wool) pronounced, though he had no objection to the material itself.—London Illustrated News.

A Friend
Wishes to speak through the Register of the beneficial results he has received from a regular use of Ayer's Pills.
He says: "I was feeling sick and tired and my stomach seemed all out of order.
I tried a number of remedies, but none seemed to give me relief until I was induced to try the old reliable Ayer's Pills. I have taken only one box, but I feel like a new man. I think they are the most pleasant and easy to take of anything I ever used, being so finely sugar-coated that even a child will take them. I urge upon all who are
In Need
of a laxative to try Ayer's Pills." — Boothbay (Me.), Register.
"Between the ages of five and fifteen, I was troubled with a kind of salt rheum, or eruption, chiefly confined to the legs, and especially to the bend of the knee above the calf. Here, running sores formed which would scab over, but would break immediately on moving the leg. My mother tried everything she could think of, but all was without avail. Although a child, I read in the papers about the beneficial effects of Ayer's Pills, and persuaded my mother to let me try them. With no great faith in the result, she procured
Ayer's Pills
and I began to use them, and soon noticed an improvement. Encouraged by this, I kept on till I took two boxes, when the sores disappeared and have never troubled me since."—H. Chipman, Real Estate Agent, Roanoke, Va.
"I suffered for years from stomach and kidney troubles, causing very severe pains in various parts of the body. None of the remedies I tried afforded me any relief until I began taking Ayer's Pills, and was cured."—Wm. Goddard, Notary Public, Five Lakes, Mich.

An Odd Way of Saving the Hair.
Among the Sakkaras the women twist their hair into flat braids, which are literally covered with cowry shells or beads, and the ends are then gathered above the head, forming a sort of bonnet. The whole is drenched liberally with palm oil and sprinkled with red powder. At night the women go to sleep with their necks resting in a concavity that has been dug out of a small log, thus keeping their head wear from touching anything and thereby being disarranged. Sometimes this uncomfortable yellow is hollowed out, the top of it being a lid, which when lifted off discloses receptacle in which are kept the hairbins and other objects of the toilet.—New York Sun.
Had Treated Them.
A collection of cholera germs was exhibited with microscopes at a meeting of male and female doctors in the academy of Medicine one night. They had been prepared by Dr. E.K. Dunham and colored with anilife dyes in order that they might be observed to the best advantage. Some of the women preended to be a little nervous about going near them, and one roguish looking young woman remarked: "You are sure that those are not live germs, doctor? I do not want to catch the cholera." "The germs are dead," said the doctor, gravely. I dyed them myself."—New York Times.
Snails as an Article of Diet.
Upward of 100,000 pounds of snails are eaten every day by the residents of the gay French capital, the snail market being the busiest industrial mart in Paris. One "snailery" in the province Dijon yields its proprietor 7,000 francs per year. At this place they are carefully reared in snail gardens and fed on aromatic herb which gives them a no flavor. Many Swiss cantons also have large snail gardens and depend briefly on the people of Paris for a marital food in Austria, Spain and Italy as well as in Egypt and the other countries where Mediterranean's southern shore. Argentineans claim that they are very tritive, containing not less than 17 percent of nitrogenous matter.—St. Louis Republic.
Seen Not Far from New York.
Interesting orthographic oddities now and then meet the eye upon the outparts of New York. "Fryed" chicken advertised in staring black letters a "basket" picnic ground on the rights above Fort Lee. A resort near George announces "Genuine Rhode Island clambakes for parties made here and kidney troubles, causing very severe pains in various parts of the body. None of the remedies I tried afforded me any relief until I began taking Ayer's Pills, and was cured."—Wm. Goddard, Notary Public, Five Lakes, Mich.

Castoria
For Infants and Children.
Castoria promotes Digestion, and overcomes Flintulency, Constipation, Sour Stomach, Diarrhea, and Feverishness. Thus the child is rendered healthy and its sleep natural. Castoria contains no Morphine or other narcotic property.
"Castoria is so well adapted to children that I recommend it as superior to any prescription known to me."
H.A. Archer, M.D.
111 South Oxford St., Brooklyn, N.Y.
"I use Castoria in my practice, and find it specially adapted to affections of children."
Alex Robertson, M.D.
1073 Main Ave., New York.
"From personal knowledge and observation I can say that Castoria has excellent medicine for children, acting as a laxative and relieving the pent up bowels and general system very much. Many mothers have told me of its excellent effect upon their children."
