Eleven ballots were cast illegally. Of these seven had no marks upon them at all and one was a straight Prohibition, marked very nicely with pencil all the way through. The average voter, however, had no difficulty in marking his ballot promptly and intelligently, and perhaps he is more favorably impressed with the new system of voting now that he is better acquainted with it. A large crowd gathered at the polls during the day, putting in work for their favorite candidates, and they were all loath to depart when, along toward midnight, the result of the voting was about to come in sight. The last ballot was counted shortly after 1 o'clock, and then the board took up the several illegal ballots and dissected them. Whatever may be the cause of blanching, the hair may be restored to its original color by the use of that potent remedy Hall's Vegetable Sicilian Hair Renewer. "A chemical success and a medical triumph," so apake an aminent physician in reference to Ayer's Cherry Peorcal; and the eulogy was none too strong. No other remedy is so safe and efficacious in all diseases of the throat and lungs. Recount Dice is calling up quite a business in their asphaltum works. They are at present working on a contract for $000 feet of bona pipe for the city of Santa Ana, to be used for street crossings, water drains, ditches etc., and are kept busy right along. It has been proved by experience that the asphaltum bridges as made by their process are much cheaper and better than the cement, and will last much longer than the wood. The City Trustees some time ago passed a resolution to put in no more wooden bridges or conduits, but to replace all as fast as they were out with the asphaltum work. For some days before the election the Los Angeles Herald published charges against County Treasurer Jabez Banbury, who was a candidate for re-election, asserting that he charged the county $47.57 for expressage and bank exchange on money and bonds forwarded to Sacramento, while he never at any time paid a dollar for expressage, and that the exchanges he obtained from the Los Angeles banks have been made so as not to cost him a penny. Colonel Banbury has brought suit against the Herald for libel, claiming damages of $20,000. The meeting of County Teachers' Association in the High School building at Santa Ana last Saturday was largely attended by teachers from the different sections of the county. The association was organized by the election of the following officers: Edwin Clark, of the Capistrano schools; President; F. B. Barnes, of the Garden Grove schools; Vice President; Miss Hartley, of the Amiahim schools; Secretary; and Miss Ada Williams, of the Santa Ana schools. Treasurer. The regular literary programme then followed after which the meeting adjourned to meet at the same place on Sunday November 13, 1892. During the past week or two a large number of Chino beet raisers have visited this section for the purpose of renting or leasing land for the raising of sugar beets for the Auahiem factory. Many of them have secured land for the purpose and others have bought tracts on contract. All of them are agreed that under our co-operative plan a beet raiser can realize from 20 to 50 par cent more for his crop than at Chino, and they are all free to admit that our soil is fully as good and in many cases better for beet raising than the land about Chino. A large number of strangers may be seen on our streets daily; some looking for land; some looking for business openings; and others expecting to get work either upon the factory building or in the beet fields. All this is but an indication of the lively times that the establishment of this great industry will bring us. To the many kind friends who rendered such timely assistance in the hour of my bereavement, consequent on the death of Mrs. Flotow I take this means of returning my sincere thanks. THEO. FLOTOW.
