The Weekly Gazette. ISSUED EVERY THURSDAY. Henry Kuchel, Charles Kuchel, Editors and Proprietors. THURSDAY... FEBRUARY 5, 1891. ANAHEIM AND CHINO RAILROAD. There will be a meeting of all those interested in the building of the Anaheim and Chino Railroad at Kroeger's Hall to morrow evening. The subscribers to stock are already numerous, and the enterprise will be assured of success if our citizens will take hold of it and push it along. Let there be a large crowd in attendance. This railroad to Chino is the greatest thing that has struck this town for many a day. Get together and talk railroad! The meeting on Tuesday evening to take action in reference to the matter of aiding the people of the New river country in their effort to become annexed to this county, resulted in the appointment of Messrs. B. J. Perry, Louis Schorn and Frank Ey, to proceed to that section and interview the citizens thereof upon the means of bringing about the consumption of the project. The meeting had the distinction to be presided over by Superior Judge Towner, who said he was heartily in favor of the annexation of the territory, providing it is the desire of the people of that section to be annexed to this county. The committee goes this morning to Norwalk, Artesia and the other towns of the neighborhood, and on their return another meeting will be called for the consideration of the annexation matter, when it is expected a general outpouring of the people will result. The limited time for the announcement of Tuesday's meeting precluded the possibility of a more general call, but it is hoped that at the next meeting everybody will be informed, and the importance of the matter attested by a general assemblage of all our citizens. The fruit dryer to be erected here by Messrs. Godfrey and Van Valin will be in course of erection before many days roll around. The deeds to two acres are now lying in escrow at the Bank, and the people of the Editorial Association, and that death should so soon claim her is very shocking indeed. We extend our sincere condolence to the bereaved husband. Disorders which Effect the Kidneys Are among the most formidable known. Diabetes, bright disease, gravel and other complaints of the urinary organs are not ordinarily cured in severe cases, but they may be averted by timely medication. A useful treatment of the urinary glands has ever been found in Hossette's Stomach salivator, a medicine which not only affords the requisite stimulus when they become inactive, but incases their vigor and secretive power. By increasing the activity of the kidneys and bladder, this medicine has additional effect of expelling from the blood impurities which it is the peculiar office of those organs to eliminate and pass off. The Bitterns is also purifier and antiseptic of the bowels, an plague of the stomach, and a matchless remedy for billions and fever and ague. It counteracts a tendency to premature decay, and sustains and comforts the aged and infirm. A meeting of the sweet wine producers of California was held in San Francisco on Monday. It was decided to form an association of sweet-wine producers for the purpose of settling the troubles which have arisen between the producers of sweet wine and the internal revenue commissioner, and to attend to the interests of the sweet-wine makers in this State. The Great Spring Medicine—The Blood is the Life. GENTLEMEN: I have been troubled with bad blood for some years, but recently purchased two bottles of Hibbard's Rheumatic Syrup, which has entirely cured me. As a blood purifier it has no equal, and I also take pleasure in recommending it as a tonic, alterative, and reliable rheumatic remedy. Very truly yours, S. E. Ferrouson, Eaton Runids, Mich. This is to certify that we know Mr. Ferguson, and believe the statement made by him to be true. We unobstatingly recommend this medicine as we believe it to be the greatest family medicine on our shelves. WALWORTH & SOULK, Eaton Rapids, Mich. Sold by D. W. Hunt. Prepared only by The Charles Wright Medicine Company, Detroit, Mich. To the purchaser of every $10 worth of groceries, during the month of January, I will give a live duck. [JI 4t] G. DAVIS. Buy and recommend Farmers' Healing Liniment because it is a genuine healing remedy. For sale by W. M. Higgins, druggist, Anaheim, Cal. John Schauman makes a specialty of fine horse-shoeing. Call and see him. ma8tf For chafing, itching, poison oak, sunburn, scalp, burns, etc., use Farmers' Healing Liniment. For sale by W. M. Higgins, druggist, Anaheim, Cal. The deeds to two acres are now lying in escrow at the Bank, and the people of this neighborhood have guaranteed a sufficient subsidy to make the work interesting. The fruit dryer will be in position to handle this season's crop, will cost upwards of $5,000 and have a capacity of three hundred huskels of green fruit per day. The dryer will be situated at the northeast corner of Center and Orange streets, diagonally opposite the Southern California depot. The railroad company will run all necessary switches, and carry the lumber for the building free of charge. This enterprise will be of immediate and lasting benefit to our city. Up to last year tons upon tons of green fruit were allowed to rot upon the ground every season. Indeed only a few years ago one of our fruit raisers grubbed up several acres of magnificent peach trees because no market could be found for the fruit and he could not afford to keep the trees on his land. Last year our orchardists did well in disposing of their crops to fruit dryers in San Bernardino. Our fruit went to market under a San Bernardino label, and we resaped none of the benefits of the excellence of our fruit. Those of our orchardists who last year made money on deciduous fruits, after having barely made expenses from them for many years, owing to the lack of a sufficient market, will appreciate the fact that this fruit dryer will be a lasting good thing to our entire valley. We extend a cordial welcome to Messrs. Godfrey and Van Valin and their families. May they get to work speedily and may the excellence of their work in drying, coupled with the established excellence of our fruits, take their goods to the four corners of the earth. By long odds the best thing that young Mr. Yorba has done since his election as Director in the Anaheim Irrigation District was the tendering of his resignation of the office at the last meeting of the board. The law fixes the salary of Directors at $4 per day, during meetings of the board, together with mileage. At the January meeting a resolution was passed declaring that in future the Directors serve without pay. Mr. Yorba comes ten miles to meeting, and certainly cannot be expected to come into town and pay his expenses for the glory of being a member of the board. So, at Tuesday's meeting he sent in his resignation. No one expects the Directors to serve To the purchaser of every $10 worth of groceries, during the month of January, I will give a live duck. For Sale was the tendering of his resignation of the office at the last meeting of the board. No one expects the Directors to serve without pay. The law fixes their salary. If individual members are averse to taking the money, let them turn it back into the treasury. But we think the resolution providing for the abolishment of salaries is nothing if not illegal. It, moreover, savors of buncombe. Mr. Yorba is sensible in resigning. While it is true that, coming from a section that is antagonistic to the district, he has apparently taken but little interest in the deliberations of the Board of Directors, still he was always present, ready and willing to do the small duty imposed upon him. He might have remained a member of the board and demanded his salary, but he has evidently seen fit to live up to the spirit of the buncombe resolution. More power do the young man's elbow! It is probable that our citizens will soon be called upon to vote on the question of issuing $10,000 in bonds for the improvement of our streets and city water works. The latter are in urgent need of repair, and our streets are perfectly disgraceful. Center street should be graveled from depot to depot, Los Angeles street given attention and the various side streets repaired and put in good condition. This is a matter that concerns every citizen and should meet with the approval of all our progressive men. The net decrease of the public debt during the past month was $15,835,496. The sad intelligence comes of the death of Mrs. Scipio Craig, wife of the editor of the Redlands Citrograph, which occurred at her home at Crafton on Thursday last. She had been in attendance upon the recent meeting NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. Notice to Stockholders In the Anaheim Street Car Company.
