A Kentuckian in Buffalo has discovered there the firm of Irish & English. What is considered especially remarkable about the firm is that Mr. English is an Iriahman and Mr. Irish is an Englahman.
The Austro Hungarian convict who is condemned to die stands on the ground with a rope around his neck, and at a given signal he is pulled off his legs to remain struggling in the air until he is strangled.
The Primrose League of England is nearing the millionth member. When the returns were made up at the close of last month the registered members numbered 939,130, and the habitations 2,163.
A new kind of lance has been introduced into the German cavalry regiments. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it is constructed wholly of steel, the necessary lightness being secured by making the shaft hollow.

The population of the Dominion of Canada, according to the census of 1881, was 4,324,507, and it is estimated that by 1891 the figures will have increased to 5,270,377. Proportions are in active progress for taking the census of next year.
A train was recently brought at a stand-still at Brierfield, near Nelson, owing to a track laden with seven barrels of strawberries coming into collision with the engine. The fruit so clogged the machinery that it took twenty minutes to clean it.
The peace strength of the German army will, on and after the list of October, be as follows: Infantry, 538 battalions; cavalry, 465 squadrons; field artillery, 434 batteries; foot artillery, 34 battalions; poncers, 20 battalions, and the train, 21 battalions.
The craze for passing floral tributes over the footlights to stage favorites seems to have reached its height at Boston a few evenings ago. A minister performer received a life-size floral image of himself seated in a chair and playing the banjo.
Fully three-fourths of the babies of the world go naked until they get to be 5 or 6 years old. The Canadian Indians keep their babies naked up to a certain point, and as for the little Cereans, they wear nothing but a short skirt until they are as old as our schoolboys.
Physicians say that cases of nervous prostration are less frequent since low heels have come into fashion. They allow the whole weight of the body to rest on the feet, remove the tenon of which the muscles are subjected by high heels and keep the calf of the leg in its normal condition.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT IN ACCORDANCE WITH Section 1004 of the Political Code of Orange county daily made and entered of record June 5, 1890, all the names on the Orange County Great Register and the Los Angeles County Great Register so far as the same relates to Orange county, are cancelled, and a new registration of the voters of Orange county, California, will begin, as required by law, on the 26th day of July, 1890, and will continue for eighty-five days, when said registration will close.

Notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the city of Anaheim that the taxes for the fiscal year 1890-91 are now due and payable to the undersigned at his office on Center street, and that all taxes unpaid on the 3d of November, 1890, will be delinquent and an additional five per cent will be collected after that date.
I will be at my office as aforesaid between the hours of 9 A.M. and 12 M. and from 1 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. for the purpose of collecting taxes.

Rod gardens have become such popular resorts in New York during the summer months that club meetings are being held among the chimneys. The Tenderlein Club will celebrate its first anniversary on the roof garden of the Casino, and dinner and music will enliven the occasion.
The recent election is likely to be the last one in which Maine will choose four Congressmen. Its gain in population has been so small in the past ten years that any increase in the ratio of representation which stands much chance of adoption will cut its list of members in the House down to three.
A miser in Dublin, Ind., having no faith in banks, placed some $1,500 in gold in tomato cans and then buried the cans under the brick floor in his cellar. One day last week going to the hiding-place he found that thieves had been there before and carried off his board.
England has been laughing at the decorations in the dining-room on Emperor's Wilhelm's yacht. Green panels are quite nullified in effect by a table cover of electric blue. In his bed-room a violet velvet coverlet "awears at" walls covered with light-flowered chints.
A Pittfield hardware dealer talls of a man who entered his store the other day and asked to look at some nippers or pliers. Some were shown him, whereupon he calmly affixed a pair to one of his teeth, pulled the molar from his jaw, lizard it with the nippers on the counter and asked the bill.
Cutting off the nose is a favorite act of vengeance to inflict on an enemy or a faithless wife in the Bombay district of India, and simultaneously with the practice has grown the art of making new noses to replace those sliced away. The injured feature can be mended by a skillful artist so as to leave very little traces of disfigurement.
It is proposed to put the newspaper reporters of Brussels, Belgium, in uniform, and a semi-military costume with a handsome frogged tunic is suggested as the proper thing. The desirability of the uniform was first made apparent at the Stanley reception, when they were hustled about like ordinary mortals because their identity was not known.
While services were being held in a church in Twiggs county, Ga., there came a vivid flash of lightning, accompanied by a quick and terrific pal of thunder. The lightning struck a tree thirty yards from the church, under which thirteen nigros were gathered. One was instantly killed and ten wounded. The entire party was hurled to the ground applauded.
