LIGHT AND AIRY.
One night I met a tasty friend
Whose hunk girl I had hired;
Before I could my not defend
He hit me with his EBT.
The blow was given with a vim
That fairly made me stagger;
I started to get back at him
By whipping out a t!
He quickly struck it from my hand
And up against the bars
I saw head first and seemed to land
Among ten thousand * * *
After this fearful knockabout
I raised a piercing yell,
Which I am sure was quite without
A wretches!
I fed, but failed to get away—
My friends saw, with a laugh,
In the police court news next day
I filed a 7 — Buffalo Express.
A Proud Moment.
Magistrate—Were you ever arrested before,
Uncle Rastra!
Uncle Rastra—Yes, mah, I war 'rested, but
I war discha'god; an' I tall yo', yo'r bonah,
dat I war nabbah so proud in my life as when
I walked down dat court room a free an'
honorable man.
Magistrate—Then you were not proven guilty, Uncle Rastra!
Uncle Rastra—No, mah; dero was a flaw in de indictment, mah.—Harper's Bazar.
What She Didn't Know.
The darling girl knew everything,
Knew Hebrew, Latin, Greek—
Yes, several other languages
With fluency could speak.
Of music, art, embroidery,
She had a thorough knowledge,
And many other things besides
That girls are taught at college.
The only thing she didn't know
Clor could the maid conceal
Her ignorance of that) was how
To cook a decent meal.
But did that make the maiden less desirable to me?
No, she was rich and could afford
To hire a cook, you see.

Mrs. Jonesworthy—He is very poorly, Mr. Smithkins—confined to his room, in fact.
Mr. Smithkins—Indeed! He was such an active man, too. How do you manage to keep him contented at home?
Mrs. Jonesworthy—Oh, he isn't at home.
He is in state's prison.—Burlington Free Press.
