EVENTS OF THE WEEK Latest Rumors About County Division County Commissioners of Orange county train them from calling on election day, it is said, large number of it will be placed where it will most good. Eminent counsel have resulted and the courts will probably back at the new county before the date upon the question. At least that assistance of the latest rumor about and we give it to our readers for its worth. DISEASED VINES. Commissioner Whaler and Professor Dowlen on a Tour of Inspection cultural Commissioner Whaler, acceded by Professor Ethelbert Dowlen, last September has been investigating mysterious vine disease, arrived Monday afternoon on a tour of the vineyards in this section. Efforts of these two gentlemen is the solution of the disease, which the entire county has devastated almost upon every hand. On our will be found Mr. Dowlen's last Board of Supervisors, which bound to contain the conclusions of investigations. In conversation Whaler he stated that the opinion many of our vinegrowers, that it to plant new vines until those now are uprooted or destroyed, is erased and that with a proper application remedies at hand all vestige of the must succumb to treatment. Mr. the originator of the blinestones being used by many of our and he is confident that great good result. Accompanied by a representative. PLACENTIA POINTERS. The Advantages of the Wright Hall Blance—Stems of interest. Editor Gazette.—Improvements in Placentia go ahead even if the "boom busted" as our northern brethren delight to remind us. Littlefield and Goldthwaite have planted a large orange orchard. Alfred H. Basten has planted several hundred trees. Chas. Bailey has planted ornamental, shade and olive trees on the Olinda ranch into the hundreds. He is now basically engaged in fencing in that ranch with a wire fence and expects to feed about 1,000 head of cattle. The grain crops are very fine. Hay good; prospects for corn excellent; the orange tree are white with bloom and redolent with fragrance. If blossoms are a sign of fruit, we shall have a large crop of oranges next year. J. W. Malrose, in behalf of Orange Union, asked Board to carry out previous Ordinance relating to insect and fruit Referred to next regular meeting, was instructed to notify the Union that person recommended as inspector music citizen of Anahaim. At the entire county has devastated many of our vinegrowers, that it is to plant new vines until those now are uprooted or destroyed, is eradicated and that with a proper application remedies at hand all vegetation of the must succumb to treatment. Mr. Wheeler he stated that the opinion many of our vinegrowers, that it is the originator of the blinestone soils being used by many of our vinegrowers and he is confident that great good result. Accompanied by a representative Gazette the gentlemen visited a few vineyardists, where expert regard different methods of vitreous vine in different soils and development. This being the biggest season, investigations will be carried with great profit by the experts of cultural Commission. Gentlemen were very much surprised at the luxuriant vineyards hereabout in the past. Mr. Wheeler was here five years ago, when our wife were the pride of everybody. The Chief Viticultural Officer knew what alarming extent had the ravagesight progressed, and it seemed to most impossible to realize that such a change had been affected by the laws of nature. Our vines in Mr. Langenberger's and Mr. Rust's Izabella vines show stable resistant powers, and as both are varieties their present vigor is all the satisfactory. These vines are better than probably any variety that has under Mr. Wheeler's observation. Vinters sampled some brands of wines places, pronencing those in Otte dollar to be of exceptionally fine quality to their short stay it was imminent to visit all of our winemakers, which gentlemen would have taken pleasure in. They left on the evening train for north. Another New Bridge Vineyarders Perry, Rowan, Davis and arrived in town on Monday morning the purpose of proceeding to the Santa Clarita with a delegation of citizens to the site of a bridge between this place. The honorable body were met depot by a number of the citizens of Mesa, Davis, Cahen, Rumpau, Folserman, Everharty, Cadman, Burger, Ruhmann, Wood, Henry, Werden and others. The trip to was begun immediately and the river was inspected thoroughly, the board up the stream for some distance. Admitted that the construction of the bridge be commenced in the near future doing away with the danger arising this treacherous stream in winery new bridge will prove quite a factor bringing business this way from a section which we have scarcely become accented. A bridge over the river at or Olive has been imperative for many years and great joy will be felt by our citiates the final favorable outcome. It has suggested by some of our citizens that satisfactory location for the bridge would at a point in the river on a line with a way, the extension of that thoroughgoing urged. The board returned to the evening having during the afternoon visited the country roundabout and put in time inspecting roads and in this neighborhood. An informal planted several hundred trees. Chqa Bailey has planted ornamental, shade and olive trees on the Olinda ranch into the hundreds. He is now busily engaged in fencing in that ranch with a wire fence and expects to feed about 1,000 head of cattle. The grain crops are very fine. Hay good; prospects for corn excellent; the orange trees are white with bloom and redolent with fragrance. If blossoms are a sign of fruit, we shall have a large crop of oranges next year. J. W. Hinton has been down from Los Angeles inspecting his new orchard and vineyard and is highly slanted with his success as a granger. His vineyard and orchard are putting forth leaves. His place will in time make a very desirable home. J. P. Greeley has been selected by the residents of this district as a candidate for Director of the water company under the Wright Irrigation law, and a vote was taken as to the preference for Assessor. Geo. Stadtagger of Yorba, a very competent man seemed to be the choice without opposition. When this district is organized, all differences amicably and satisfactorily settled, all the water saved and distributed where it will do the most good or where needed, every acre made to yield in abundance, this district will contain and maintain 10,000 inhabitants instead of 3,000 as at present. Water litigation will be one of the follies of the past; peace, harmony and prosperity will prevail. The merchant' and mechanics trade will increase with the increased growth of the country. No one thing has been inaugurated in this section that is likely to develop into such grand results as this enterprise. Parties are now in California from the East torpurpose of negotiating for all irrigation bonds that may be voted up to $10,000,000. So that the timidity with which capitalists approached these bonds at first on account of their being something new and a little out of the regular line of bonds, will in the future be seeking after them. The Hartford Insurance Company has an agent in California examining into them. He informed us so far as his investigations have gone he believes them to be a first-class investment. One or two districts voted more bonds than the assessable value of the property in the district. In such cases their bonds are not a ready sale. That cannot happen here. Let no one stand back or put a single obstacle in the way of this grand enterprise, which means development of the country and prosperity for every man within its limits. There are some objections being urged against the bill on the grounds that Yorba, Placentia and Fullerton may unite and move headquarters to some place across the sand wash. Let no one vote against it on that account, as no move will be made to move headquarters from Anaheim. All sorts of stories may be started by the enemies of the measure to defeat it as the election draws near. Don't be too ready to believe these stories till you investigate their accuracy. The main question is first to adopt the district. All side issues can and will be arranged satisfactorily later. Borea. Anaheim Water Company. The Board of Directors of the Anaheim Water Company met on Saturday afternoon. The committee appointed at last meeting to secure a loan to liquidate the indebtedness of the company to Mrs. Bishop and Joseph Maggard reported that two offers had been made, one of $2,000 at 10 per cent and one of $3,000 at 9 per cent. The latter offer, from Lionel Browning, was accepted, and the note of the company drawn in full. Mr. Strain, of the committee on conference with the Yorbas, reported that he had visited them on Wednesday, had discussed the new irrigation district with them and left Hugo Wetzel are the presiding officers. Board of Trustees meet in regular yesterday afternoon. Present—Messra Ey Boege and Waite. Amendment No. 55 was read and Motion of laying sidewalks on Central referred to next regular meeting. R. Melrose, in behalf of Orange Grove Union, asked Board to carry out pre-ordinance relating to insect and fraternity to next regular meeting. Was instructed to notify the Union that person recommended as inspector music citizen of Anaheim. Bills were audited and ordered paid. Bill of C. It has suggested by some of our citizens that satisfactory location for the bridge would be at a point in the river on a line with broadway, the extension of that thoroughfare being urged. The board returned to town in the evening, having during the afternoon visited the country roundabout change and put in time inspecting roads and bridges in this neighborhood. An informal report was tendered them in the evening and the honorable body left for their homes in the evening train. The Crop Prospect. The leading topic of the day is the coming harvest. The wheat crops have never promised better, the acreage showing an increase in every county where the wheat has not been supplanted by fruit, and the appearance of the growing plant being very fine, indeed. Wheat reports that she will have a surplus of 8,000,000 bushalls for sale. Staminals has 400,000 acres in wheat and barley, and promises the largest crop ever harvested since 1889. Yolo reports an increased acreage, owing to the reclamation of tale land. In Merced the progress of irrigation has led to an increase in acreage in wheat equal to per cent west of the San Joaquin and 25 east of the river. In San Joaquin there has been 33 per cent increased acreage, and farmers are talking of a yield of forty bushels to the acre. About an equal increase in acreage is reported from Freeman, which is the fruit of the new influx of settlers. The main cause has quadrupled the average in wheat in San Diego. San Luis Obispo, which has been awakened to new life by the advent of the railroad, has 25 per cent more land in wheat than last year, and the mangrove farmers reckon on 50 per cent increase in yield per acre. The new average in wheat in Tulare is stated at 100,000 acres. Take the whole State all around there is more land planted in wheat than ever before, and the yield will only be paralleled, if it is paralleled at all by the manure crop of 1889. It is likely to induce an increase at this stage, but it is worth 1,800,000 tons not be anything Barley looks equally well. The world-famous chervil barley of Alameda is growing splendidly; the crop will be above average. In Kern the average has been increased 20 per cent and the outlook is reported as more promising now. From Bakersfield to New York there are counting an increasing number of farmers who have been inclined to vault in vaults never leashed to wails. It is inevitable that this confidence will still diminish even though it will aid our farmers in their daily lives. PERSONAL MENTION. Through of the Lieutenant Trifling he been for a few days. Large congregations were present and able discourse were the rule. Nothing has been mean or heard of the twenty-four English skylarks that L. J. Rose turned loose on his ranch in Los Angeles county some weeks ago. When first liberated the birds flew straight up, and Mr. Rose is afraid they have not stopped yet. The society will bernafter meet at the Hotel del Campo on Friday evenings. The Santa Fe management has deemed it advisable to place a stock of coupon tickets in charge of Agent Deamond, who will now have constantly on hand tickets to all points East. Eleven oil walls at Puente yield nearly 150 barrels of oil per day, and the quantity seems practically inexhaustible. Two new walls are being drilled, one having reached a depth of 700 feet.
