COOKING IN SCHOOLS.
SEVERAL REASONS WHY IT MAY NOT BE PROFITABLE.
A Knowledge of Elementary Studies Needed Just Concern is Learned at Home: Objections to Kitchen in City Schools: Pertinent Points.
The women who propose to introduce instruction in the science and art of cooking into the public schools and accordingly mean well. Their offer to pay the expenses of a teacher and to provide the articles that are to be prepared for food is commensurable. It is understood, however, that this proposition is only with a view of making a public pariment. If it is successful the design is to have cooking taught, as reading, writing German and music now are, at the cost of taxpayers. It will take its place in the regular course of studies.
That every woman whatever her rank should understand how to prepare the various kinds of food in common use is certain. Nothing promotes the happiness of mankind in general as much as good food. Poorly prepared food ruins the health of many families. Wasteful cooking presents the property of a still larger number. Economy in the kitchen if it is said enabled the French nation to pay the indemnity demanded by Germany for a foreign war and allowed the peasantry to contribute millions toward bigging the Papuaçu cann persons of every age and condition appreciate a good meal. Cooking deserves to be recognized one of the fine arts. For its highest development science as well as skill and experience are required. It is one of the most helpful signs of the times that several chemists have safely delivered courses of lectures and written works on the science of cookery. The latter are now taking the place of the empirical cook's book.
TOO MANY STUDIER
The propriety however of introducing cooking into the common schools is questionable. An attempt is made to impart distinctions in quite too many things now. The school life of the majority of pupils is limited to 500 days. They cannot learn to read write and compute simple numbers in this short time. Every new branch interferes with progress in what are known as the fundamental studies. It human beings are to occupy a place above that of the common animals it is certainly necessary that they learn to read in the language of the country to express their thoughts on paper and to compile numbers. A very large proportion of pupils leave the schools now only one step away from literacy. German, Italian, training and grammar laws pass an influence in presenting them from learning how to use the English language in cooking.
FRANCE'S EDUCATION.
IN SOME PARTICULAR FAR AHEAD OF THAT AMERICA.
The French System of Practical Instruction - The Aim of the Government- Art Education- Technical schools - The Paris Primary Schools.
General education in France is fully as thorough and gradual as that of the United States, and in some particular far ahead of it, mainly in the system of practical education.
Commencing with the kindergarten, the primary schools, the intermediate schools, drawing aid art schools all have the same manifestation and attestation tendency of raising the growing population into a people skilled and self-equipped workmen who by their superior training and intellectual contitling, will be better able to fight misery and poverty than any period of the world before.
All the instruction, tools, books stationery to the very poor even food and clothing are given free of charge so that school becomes an abode of pleasure and a dispenser of comforts to the poor children whose parents are not able to provide them with any of these necessities.
France spends $100,000 a year to give its growing generation intellectual advancement. In addition to this the ministers of war and commerce contrivable large sums for special schools, and Paris sponsors for municipal schools $100,000, which is five times more money than was spent for this purpose in the time of the empire. Mr Schmoe endows the school systems of other nations by as complete in their educational facilities but mothers excepting in Switzerland and America free instruction systematically carried out as in France.
Norperma are industrial education and art education made so to speak, an organic part of the whole system of public instruction. It requires with manual training, and it is combined object teaching.
AIM OF THE GOVERNMENT.
Release us to be the aim of the government; federal education at first, and in time special legislation.
It is customary to understand their use and to amuse themselves as possible with sketches, outlines sketching and hand work.
To assist in creation of apprenticeships in industries where they end up giving to the pupils below the information dexterity in the use of hand and finger care corresponding knowledge to prepare them for employment. The Excelsior Arts or Manufacturing establishments.
To contribute to the expansion in terms and machinery used in the superior ordinary and other schools preparing for the technical schools.
To raise the standard
An attempt is made to impart instruction in quite too many things now. The school life of the majority of pupils is limited to 10 days. They cannot learn to read write and compute simple numbers in this short time. Every new branch interferes with progress, what are known as the fundamental studies. If human beings are to occupy a place above that of the common animals it is certainly necessary that they learn to read in the language of the country to express their thoughts on paper and be comfortable numbers. A very large proportion of pupils leave the schools now only one step away from literacy. German music, training and gymnastics have paved an influence in presenting them from learning how to use the English language in any other way than in conversation.
A knowledge of cooking can be acquired out of which much better than a knowledge of reading, writing, arithmetic and geography. If a girl can read and write well, all demands the reason of weights and measures, and is tolerant familiar with the terminology in practical science she can learn much about cooking for the study of books. Knowledge of the elementary shapes and early stages in common schools or as much portability in learning cookery as he may perhaps anything else.
There are great opportunities to fit into homes in school houses to be used for making food, dressing shoes and clothing, fitting and wearing articles of clothing and doing laundry work. It is an important part of apprentices' jobs when working in factories such as boys' clothes or bread shops and bakers for fried foods and average shops that are doing business by the means in commerce for the present benefits.
If cookery is introduced in the schools they will properly be a hundred-fold instruction in cutting, fitting and bearing articles of clothing and doing laundry work. It is an important part of apprentices' jobs when working in factories such as boys' clothes or bread shops and bakers for fried foods and average shops that are doing business by the means in commerce for the present benefits.

Students Pass Their Way
Efficiency of the service might members of the graduating class of the Sheffield school at Vaccination their own living while taking the course of instruction. Some worked on farms during vacation, some took some tuition and some acted as waiters in summer towns where one man later at a summer town receiving a salary of £2 per week for his services - Chicago Normal.
To secure Long Life
A physician better cognizant physical events can last several minutes a day should be taught in social sciences so as without to introduce mathematics might not be so without a more practical judging.
Alabama boards of education publish representations no inconsistent with nearly 50,000 and an annual cost of over $1,000,000.
THE STARRY FIRMAMENT ON HIGH.
Sang Addison. But hadn't you, for a few years at least, rather look at the firmament from the underside.
YOU CAN DO IT by observing the laws of health and resorting to that cheat the grave medicine.
WARNER'S SAFE CURE
You are out of sorts; a splendid feeling and appetite one day, while the next day life is a burden. If you drift on in this way you are liable to become insane. Why?
Because poisoned blood on the nerve centers wherein the mental faculties are located, paralyses them and the victim becomes non responsible.
There are thousands of people to-day in Insane asylums and graves, put there by Kidney Poisoned Blood.
Insanity, according to statistics, is increasing faster than any other disease. Is your eye sight falling? Your memory becoming impaired? An all-gone feeling on slight exertion upon you! It so, and YOU know whether this is so or not, do not neglect your case until reason toters and you are an imbsolile, but to day while you have reason, use your good sense and judgment by purchasing WARNER'S SAFE CURE and WARNER'S SAFE PILLS; medicines warranted to do as represented, and which will cure you.
Special schools for tractors are singing to France, as the Evie Minneapolis Professor of Agriculture, where pupils are taught to design and make artistic furniture. In theoretical studies the pupils are taught French history, language, arithmetic, geometry, technology, history of industrial drawing, sketching modeling and molding. Professional instruction consists of cabinet making, wood carving turning, paper work and upholstery. Instruction is free, and pupils are fed during school hours. The teachers are practical workers. Somewhat similar in character is a school where carriage building is taught, and the Ecole d'Hogging, which gives education, to those who wish to become skilled watchmakers. With similar ends, many schools are now in the formation process in France for the making of mathematical, optical, telegraphic and surgical instruments. In Lyons there is a waving school (Boele de Tressage). In Paris, as a center of population, there are 250 primary schools for boys, 275 for girls, and the pupil number 300,000. The divisions are three kindergarten schools, primary schools and superior primary schools across primaries of superintendent.
Of the 285 primary schools in Paris merely have workshops for the working of wood and iron, and in time workshops will be the constant adjunct. Everywhere in all the departments of France are to be found these schools, not elementary schools, but where the highest branches of technical art are taught. Taking for instance, the apprentice school of decorative art applied to industry in Paris. "The object of this school is to give special instruction to special trades of an artistic nature—ceramic, glass, enameling, sculpturing and carving in wood, marble and every metal casting copper bronze iron chasing textile designing and decorative painting furniture and artistic woodwork, modelling in clay and wax from plaster or from life. The instruction from this school is gratious, and is admitted after having passed an examination in written papers or an examination and a submitted drawing." New York Times.
