Boop vs. Law. The Bit. A Missouri constable rode out to a farm near St. Joe armed with a pulley and a woman who was wanted on a wrist in court. He found her in a brick yard, barely engaged in stirring, bobbing men in a large black box. He stated his business and the name: "I can't go to day." "But you most." "What's the harry?" "Why, court's in session, and the case is now on think. Day want you to do." "Well I don't going. You look at this hall knot of my step to apile, just to please your son." No, sirre. "Why, my dear madam, you want your really don't seem to understand." "I understand that I'm going to a spital sope cream on it, and will make thin, sticky soap, if it isn't needed today. You go back and tell the judge." "You'll be fined for—" "Pooh! I'd like to see the Mary Jay thadda fine a woman for not leaving bed when it was at a written night say. Tell the judge I'll tomorrow, if we don't bother me an if we do, I'll come some day again." "But I tell you that won't be must some now." "Looken, young man, yes I am a fool! I reckon you never made any snag did you? If you had you'd snag." "What does the judge care about your soap." "Well, what do I care about the judge if it comes to that? Law's law and soap. Let the judge hand it over to me. I'll tend to my soap. The glove there's a time for everything and take my time for a hard-o salt soap." "Well, madam, if you want to be fined for contempt of court, all right. You will be fined, sure as—" "Hall! I know all these laws and Ursus isn't any thing in the Constitution of the United States or the Declaration of Independence; also that says a woman's got little o' ball-cooked soap and grinder when she isn't a real he." "A Reason Found at least." YOUNG FOLKS COLUMN. A MOST NATURAL AND EASY MODE OF SWIMMING. Lestimulating Instantism in the Life of the Philadelphia Baptist, Stephen Glirard-Gerrardson of Words Battling to Money That Are Both Instructive and Entertaining. As Philadelphia is where an abbreviation of the annual victory of the philadelphia Baptist, Stephen Glirard, in its hold this year, is may well be acquired our young preachers with a few of the many characters of this good man's notable life. Stephen Glirard was born in Berkshire, Prison, about the year 1720. He emmits to Philadelphia for the first time in 1730, and it is told that he was obliged to borrow $5 to bring him into that city. His died in December, 1821, an old man, almost 80 years of age. During his long life he advanced step by step upward, beginning at the early age of 11 in a cabin boy in a ship, then a cook, and from there onward to sleeper, made and captain, until he became a very successful mariner and merchant. Having children of his own, Mr. Glirard left at his death the humane fortune of nearly $4,600,000 for the founding and maintenance of a college for boys, now known the country away in "Glirard college." THE PHILAETHER'S ONE. In the midst of his prosperity it is told that Mr. Glirard never but his funnies for young people and annuaries birds, all of whom he lived well, but lost all he blink'd his farm down in "the Neck." A writer in Denmark Monthly tells how every day in his yellow pig Mr. Glirard drove down there, and then looked off his cost and went to work. Rich through he was, he did not dislike manmost labor, but found pleasure in the recreation, as well as profit from his farm. Some idea may be gained perhaps of the extent of good accomplished by Mr. Glirard's principally present to the city of Philadelphia when it is known that 1,100 boys attended Glirard college last year. Words Relating to Money. The derivations of words relating to money and commerce are both interesting and instructive. The word money is from moneta, because in Rome coins were first regularly struck in the temple of June Moneta, which aces was derived from moneta to ware. Leaf calls attention in The Medical News to some arrows and directions in regard to that organ on which he so much of the pleasure and the value of existence, viz., the stomach. He finds a result of many examinations, that the stomach in its normal position is written, forward of lying in a horizontal position. Again, when water is taken from the full or partly full stomach it is mingled with the food, as we are probably taught, but passes along quickly between the food and the lower curvature, being pylorus through which it passes into the intestine. The secretion of mucin by the liver membrane is constant, and during it it is considerable amount accumulated; some of its liquid portion is emitted, and that which remains is thick and creamy. If fecal is taken into the stomach in this condition, it becomes rounded up, mucous, and the secretion of the gastric juice and its action are delayed. There then flow the value of a goblet of water in breakfast. This washes out the brown matter, and stimulates the gastric glands to function. In oil or feeble perspiration, water should not be taken cold, but it may be with advantage than taken warm or hot. The removal of the accumulated mucus from the stomach is probably one of the most important steps taking place at the beginning of a meal that always been found so beneficial. Finally, Dr. Leaf concludes that it is perfectly proper to drink water before and after meals. Carbonated Oil for Fans. An excellent household reamer for all alghs cots, or even for many other injuries, is found in carbolized oil, which can be procured from the draughtgrain or be made says Good Housekeeping. In selling one teaspoonful of carboline oil dissolved in glycerine, to fourteen per centulous of sweet oil. It is necessary of linen and bound on the wound, containing acid, being an antiseptic, power in composition and so permits the wound to heal. The air is full of minute germs, invading the naked eye. It is the office of these persons when life comes in any organisation to begin into its original element. For instance, in youth, and scoring in the leisure work. When the skin is broken, the whitish of the surrounding parts being troyed by the injury, a holbed is placed in which bacteria flourish with fuel oil. The potash thus generated is almost into the system and in bad cases the animal diet of Words Relating to Money. The derivations of words relating to money and commerce are both interesting and instructive. The word money is from moneta, because in Rome coins were first regularly struck in the temple of June Moneta, which again was derived from moneta, to wear, because it was built on the spot where Manitine heard the Gadis approaching to the attack of the city. "Coda" is probably from the Latin cuenna, a die or stamp. Many coins are merely as called from their weight, as for instance the English pound, the French Hirre, Italian lira; others from the metal, as the rapa from the sanakrit rapa, silver; others from the head of the state, as the sovereign crown; others from the proper name of the monarch, such as the Louis d'or, or the Napoléon. The dollar or thaler is short for the Joachimthaler, or money of the Jonchimthaler valley, in Bohemia, where these coins were first struck in the Bittseenth century. Guinea were first called after the country from which the gold was obtained, and the france is an abbreviation of the inscription Francorum Rex. The son is from the Latin soldier. The word shilling appears to be derived from a root signifying to divide; and in several cases the name indicates the fraction of some larger coin, as the denarius, half-penny, farthing, cent and mill. The pound was originally not a coin, but a weight, and comes from the Latin pandum. The British pound originally was a pound of silver, which was divided into 340 pennies. The origin of the word penny is unknown. Some have derived it from pendo, to weigh; but this does not seem very satisfactory. The word "sterling" is said to go back to the time of the Conquistion, but the derivation has been much disputed. Swimming Like a Dog. This is after all, the most natural method of swimming, and as much as followed by the unhappy hitters and puppies condemned by rehabilitation fails to death by drowning. One Way of Swimming. The swimmer who wishes to initiate these canine evolutions must keep his hands in front of his chest, as shown in the eos, and strike out with each hand and feet alternately, the right hand with the left foot, and vice versa. The hands strike downwards to wade the chest, the palms depressed, and a little hollowed. The legs strike out as usual except that the motion is alternate; first one leg being used and then the other. Remember always to inhale the air when the hand is highest point of water. Fresh and Lush. Flush and lock are wonderfully different affairs; says Youth. Luck is a delusion. We cannot learn by luck; we cannot acquire anything worth having by it; it is all imagination. Flush is a quality of character well worth possessing. The boy or girl who waits on luck for success will wait long. On the other hand, all Hygienic View of Baldness. A physician recently expressed himself on the subject of bald heads, saying his opinion that bald headed people were worse than those who have a good head of hair. In many cases they take cold easily off with pearles or contract consumption or chrome bronchitis. This causes all bald headed men to wear a small cap at all times, as wigs are unaffected, contending that if the hair were not kept covered with any protection to man, he would be crowned without any. He has been many cases of paramebrals, and where the person is made over 40 years old, the property is ever half in favor of being bald. Bald heads are one of the signs of civilization including men, history and high living, but also point to poor mental degeneration of the man. Thus where bald should edopt the skull cup or other protection for the head. A suggestion to the British. While investigating the cause of dizziness, Dr. William James of Harvard college, has discovered that deaf mutes, as a class, possess a singular impunity from it. This is attributable to the destruction of the ordinary mercerizer their labrynth formation. He also observed in some genius sign of a possible insanity free condition. He makes the suggestion that the infection in ordinary saline might be caused by biliary or other similar breaching the skin around the nose. Dear Sir, Professor A. J. Cook finds ammonia the best of all remedies for her troubles. The much tumsis says a total physiology will undoubtedly come the maldeme spinal trouble. The yolk of one egg three drums of glycerin and fifteen grains of carbolic acid make an additional mixture for stiffening the hands. English habits are exhibited for their beautiful completion. They may strike attention to dizziness and fall much active mention in the open air. Flush and Luck. Pluck and lick are wonderfully different affairs, says Youth. Luck is a delusion. We cannot learn by luck; we cannot acquire anything worth knowing by it; it is all imagination. Pluck is a quality of character well worth possessing. The boy or girl who waits on luck for success will wait long. On the other hand, all who have pluck will either succeed or make a dignified and excruciable failure. It is not pleasant to fall of success in anything that we attempt, but better for something good attempted, even if it be not achieved, than the idle, aimless waiting for a shower of good fortune that may never fail. Life is not a lottery wheel dispensing favors without any regard to the deserts of the winners. Life's best prizes are worked for, straggled for, toiled for and all the awaken when sensed by reason of the toll and struggle that has won them. Easy won, little worth, might be a proverb. We do not generally appreciate what it has cost us nothing to mean. Let us not afraid of effort and push, but cheerfully put our shoulders well to our hand in life. Having set some good aim before us, let us work with pluck and perseverance, with pain and patience, for the object we desire. We shall be the better for the efforts, even if the correct prize be not grasped, and in all things the old couplet is worthy of re-membrance. If at first you don't succeed, Try Ive again. Patience Neths. The blending of conflicting colors continues to be a marvelful feature of the season. Virtue and silk skirts are fashionably draped with women materials; the tendency is to drape light shades over dark ones. Uphearses claim that the reign of plumb on the draine, and predict a revolution in furniture materials before another whirler comes and goes. Tails, hues and grims are used for very dreary hemens, being altered or frilled on a wire frame and trimmed with small flowers and green leaves. In裤裷 for the protection of the hands of her shirt are again very fashionable. There are for practical use, not for commerce, and on no account must can be visible below the edge of the skirt. A Wild Western Life. In early days in the territory, when there was plenty everywhere, we have seen the wild petard a little higher a century of a country and working in till pretty it peaked the whole thing off and round it away without fault. express and Baggage COMPANY.
