Work on the Commission on the New Line at Ozone—The Grade of the Atchison Almost Completed—Tracks to the Land and Care Remaining by the First of June—The Otima Road.
We present this morning a diagram showing the railroad situation in the southern end of the county. It presents the importance of Anaheim as a railway point, and will be of benefit to visitors who come with an idea of loading. Probably the most important portion of the map to our citizens is the new line adopted by the Southern Pacific between Anaheim and Tustin City, on its route toward San Diego. This road, which takes in the rich foothill country to the north and east of Orange, will diverge from the present course at a point near the residence of R. D. Polhamus, immediately south of town, turning thence to the east and proceeding slightly southerly toward Santa Ana River which it crosses at what known as the Taris crossing. The Taris crossing and re-thing like a mile north of fixed track laying will be pushed by them two hours forward the latter point, and by the time this shall be standard, the route will doubletime have been agreed upon.
Nothing doubt is yet known as to the reported sale of the Coyote mine by the Atchison Company, which it was thought a sample of weeks ago was ceded beyond paradventure, terms ent to have been premature. The railroad company declined to complete the bargain after they had virtually been tendered the terminal point at the price agreed upon. Why they should allow this opportunity of entering San Francisco to go by the boards is something which is not generally understood. It is said, however, that the company will confine their operations mainly to Southern California for a long time to come, and give attention later on to ensuring at outlets at San Francisco. The company's attention is now given to their many lines in this and the other northern counties. Before projecting their line to the north, it is now evident, their extensive work here will be pushed to final completion.
The readbed of the Anaheim and Olinda Railway is now graded the entire distance, with the exception of the route which lies through a part of the Krammer ranch. Owing to the numerous elevations in the ranch the route is circumitone, and will measure about three miles of roadbed. Right way through the ranch is no at present obtained, though no serious obstacle, it is thought, will intervene to prevent the entire line being graded in a few days. Surveyors are constantly in the field, running the most feasible route, and it is understood have almost completed their labor. The entire grading force has been transferred to the route north of Oliuda, and are running the roadbed as fast as possible toward Soquel Pass. The work is about completed, but the heavy rainfall of Monday put quite a dampener upon the men engaged in the work. The grading of the road to Soquel will tend to hold this valuable pass. The Soquel Pass has for years centered the attention of railroad builders in Southern California. It has been said for some time here on

The Minerystate of Monroe. Brynn Knapp to PILI in "Long-Ball Wheel"—Monroe Improvement by Gunnar.
One great hindrance to Anaheim's property homestead has been the dwelling-homes for rent to strangers or either could not get hotel accommodation or who objected to hotel life. In it known be every resident of Anaheim daring the post winter especially among families have relatively compelled have Anaheim for the runners mention We are glad to be able to announce there will be no further difficulty of kind to contend with. As a result of negotiations which have for some time been pending between the Anaheim Improvement Company and Monroe. Francis G. Brynn Charlief K. Knapp, a constant win on half day last "signed," smiled and delivered the result of which will be the creation Monroe. Ryne & Knapp of a number dwelling-houses on the Hotel del Campo tract forthwith. These enterprising men have already procured plans and applications for several of the houses, which show that the structures will be tummy attractive in appearance. These homes will be rented or sold, as the case may be; the number to be built will only be limited by the demand. Any person desiring buy a house on the installment plan must designate the size, style and cost of the building, and Monroe. Ryne & Knapp will build it to suit. Inasmuch as they will in a position to buy some of the buildings material cheaper than the ruling rates, they are able to offer their homes much cheaper than individual builders could put them for.
Our readers will agree with us that this one of the most important items of progress ever noted in these columns. The magnificent Hotel del Campo, given to Anaheim by the eight gentlemen comprising the Anaheim Improvement Company, supplemented by the enterprise of Monroe. Ryne & Knapp in providing homes for families, will have great influence on Anaheim's future and do much to foster its program.
The reason for this change of route by the Southern Pacific is made principally on account of the inability to secure right of way between Tustin and Santa Ana. The price of this latter privilege is variously at from $60,000 to $85,000, and this was too large for the railroad company. They cast about for another route selected what is known as the foothills. They have within the last few completed everything as to decide it, etc., and orders will be issued in work upon occasion.
Besides this pass in the Brea Canyon there is said to be another feasible route across the range, but of this there is at present no definite information. Important developments in railway circles are constantly happening in Southern California and it would prove no surprise to our people to see in the near future the most extensive network of railroads near this point.
A THENDER SHOWER
The Precaution Bit of Weather Experienced on Monday.
Our readers will agree with us that this one of the most important items of progress ever noted in these columns. The magnificent Hotel del Campo, given to Anaheim by the eight gentlemen comprising the Anaheim Improvement Company, supplemented by the enterprise of Monser. Ryan & Kemp in providing homes, for families, will have great influence on Anaheim's future and much to foster its program. The beautiful hotel treat will soon be the site of numerous tasty and attractive homes.
In a week or two the grounds around the Hotel del Campo will be laid out and planted with flowers and shrubbery. This work has been entrusted to Mr. and Mrs. R. Landeau whose taste and skill in gardening is so ceded to be unapproachable. Mrs. Landeau has already drawn the plans for the garden walks, etc., and Mr. Landeau (who is one of the eight stockholders in the hotel) is preparing to begin work on them.
COX HANGS HIMSELF.
A Demanded Man Who Had Not Wanted to Lawn.
When Constable Timothy opened the door of the jail on last Thursday evening he took George Cox to his meal, he saw the body of the prisoner hanging by a rope which was tied to one of the bars of the jail window. Cox's feet were within a few inches of the floor, and the body hanging against the wall. A heavy examination revealed that fact that the man had been dead for some hours, the body being cold and rigid. The body was cut down and the Coroner notied. At the moment on Saturday a verdict was rendered in accordance with the foregoing facts. It is said Cox obtained the rope with which he ended his earthly marvel from some children who were playing near the jail at noon on Thursday. There is not much doubt that Cox was driven to the verge of insanity by reason of committing the murderous assault for which he was wanted in Lakewood, and for which he was held to answer. The requisition papers for the prisoner were expected here with the proper officer within a few days, and Cox being informed of the same, the fact no prayed upon his mind that he was driven commit the ghastly deed.
The Dakota officer had started for Anaheim when a telegram announcing Cox's death was sent to the Territory. Unlawful he shall be informed, while on route here, he may be expected to arrive on his fruitless mission in a few days.

price is for this latter privilege is variously paid from $5,000 to $5,000, and this was too large for the railroad company. They cast about for another route selected what is known as the foothills. They have within the last few days completed everything as it does today, etc., and orders will be issued in work at once.
The office last week of Massara, Creek Tahoe and Curtis of the Southwest, was the purpose of taking a final survey of a field. The party treasured or drove past the route in marriages, some could be leased at the country where they were once in declaring it to be a private property, or serving as it does now and thereby industry.
To lose to Santa by being thus cut off the main line, quite a mishap to our vigorous road over river. Panneau-tsa and freight change care at this point for that route Santa Ana will still possess their presence, however, and will hence here get all trains on the Southern Pacific. Will largely increase the work at the South Pacific depot here.
The Ashleigh grade dried here on last Thursday and immediately went into camp south of town. Groom continued with vigor during the world entire route between Ashleigh station will be graded in a day or two. Up next evening not more than a mile of road contained unfinished between the depots. This it will take but a short time finish.
The trash-laying firm which have been working near Bingham will have completed their duties this past by 10-day is expired. They go there to New York where their services will required for one-thousand or less wounds during touch to residents. After sampling the work at our latter point the entire station will be maintained to the road between Ashleigh and Los Angeles. There is probably no group of travellers on this limo one hundred miles at George and threshers at Los Angeles. As the route in this neighborhood of Brooklyn has not or remains definitely

A THENDER SHOWER
The Peanut Bit of Weather Experimented on Monday.
A popular storm provailed on Monday, vast clouds had banked themselves against the mountains to the north and east and gave evidence that a heavy rainstorm was impending. Heavy thunder resounded across the hortons and the "livid lightning" flash was discernible. It reminded one of a genuine "down Kast" thunderstorm.
At noon the snow-capped crest of the Sunshine maritime mountains glitating in the sunlight, were for a moment revealed to view by the breaking clouds, which soon closed again and left the range in impenetrable blackness. Rain fell in torrents in the foothills, and at Placentia and Carlton large hail quickly covered the ground. As much and a half of rain fall at the former place, and at the latter point and in the mountains to the north and east perfect torrents fall during the afternoon. The heavy clouds encircling Old Baldy and hovering over the Santiago Canyon gave evidence that a heavy rain was falling. In tower drops of rain descended for a few minutes and the dull atmosphere perturbed heavy showers. In a moment, however, the strong winds from the southwest had driven the clouds away, and sunshine again ensued, while the rainclouds were awake to the north, leaving us in sunshine and shadow as the clouds which ran from the south were driven overland by the brush brains.
The mountains and foothills were again totally wrapped in darkness, showing that a deluge of water was falling.
On Tuesday not a cloud could be seen at midday, and nothing interrupted the view of the fringe of distant snow-capped mountain.

The Boston Idea of Madera.
One of the best and brightest girls of the Back Bay teaches a Sunday school class in a certain famous orthodox church. Last Sunday she grew very earnest picturing to the eager infants who marrowed her the joys of heaven to be won by those who live and trust in a way to deserve them.
"You must love the Lord," she said, "and just as good as you know how to be. You must never get into temper, you must always mind your manners, and be good in every way you know how, and then you will be sure to go to heaven when you die. Won't that be nice?"
"Yes, man'am," leaped all the babies before her.
"But if you are bad," and she looked reentlessly into the innocent faces before her, "you won't go to heaven. If you are bad," and she took a firm grip on the doctrine she felt called on to teach, "If you are bad, my dear children, you will go to hell, and that—that she groped for a word and endured frequently," "and that would be perfectly ridiculous." —Boston Record.
