Everyone coming to California to make a home organ investment, whether this means be ample or limited, desires to place his money there it will the most nearly account his purpose. He wants the least possible outlay with the most good, and wants his money placed where the whole of his investment can always be realized quickly if any emergency should arise requiring a disposition of the property, yet at the same time it may be so placed that every prospect will promote an enhancement of value. To these people the lands surrounding Anaheim, and in Anaheim, should be made known in the most expcient way. The lands in this locality are too near perfection, to remain unaccentuated. Were the proper means employed to farther this fact we doubt not that this particular part of the county would be densely populated at no distant day. The reason of the flourishing condition of many towns in this county to day is due to the fact of the people in the several places making known to the outside world what they possess in the way of natural advantages in their respective regions. The people who are coming into this State and county are ignorant of the existence of Anaheim, and today other towns in this county as well; and the one and only way to convey them the fact of our presence on earth is by advertising in pamphlet form and in the newspapers.
Anaheim would have special agents in Los Angeles city, so make known to the hundreds of people who are flocking into the metropolis of our excellent advantages. The resources of Anaheim can be fold honestly without any exaggeration, and good impressions will surely be made upon the Eastern mind. No neighboring towns have all more or less recorded in some means, and what he learns the result. The intending homesteaders have been attracted thither and located in many instances.
We can profit a hundred-told in the way of populating our town with hope and true dreams were we to adopt the universal rule incident in the land to arrive at this end, and that is extensive and judicial advertising of our town. Now, is the time for action.

Dr. John the past twelve months California has made remarkable progress as a raisin-producing State. Many obstacles were encountered by the vineyardists and raisin makers of this part of the State when the few experiments were made with curing the products of the wines of Southern California and planning the raisins on the markets in competition with the Spanish raisins. But the robust, oblique and natural advantages of this general section of California, together with skillfully directed efforts and unfailing faith in the ultimate results, have been rewarded by the growth of the raisin industry to such proportions that the Spanish raisin is now rapidly being implanted in the United States. And the day is not far distant when Southern California will not only be able to produce raisins sufficient to supply the demand of the United State, but will also be able to rival competitors by exporting raisins as fine a quality as ever were raised in the famous provinces of Spain.
A bitter warfare as being inaugurated in Los Angeles against the low and disreputable dives and saloons. The action of the City Council in this matter is necessary, as the city at present is overrun with criminals all shades and tones of the lowest level. Not a day passes but what the daily papers of that city carmillo some sort of assault on the innocent citizen or the robbery of some sale. Los Angeles is becoming a city of large proportions and as a natural consequence the total batch of law breakers predominate to the discomfort of the people of repute.
A contingent in the New York Tribune, speaking of the wine industry in California, says leading winemakers have demonstrated that it pays better to raise the chosen French and German grapes, shy bearers though they do, than to grow the common but profuse varieties. Heretofore good prices could be obtained for the Mission grape, but there was an unwritten agreement this year between the large winemakers that mit over $10 per ton would be paid for these grapes, and the result will be the grafting of old vineyards to better varieties and the planting of new ones to choice grapes. Six years ago the Zutaniel was the best claret grape, and everyone was loud in its praise. Now it is relegated to second place and the closest elastar is made from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Melot and Verdot in the proper Civil Engineer Wood fixed the grade for water gate and pipes at reservoir on Tuesday and ran the levels from there to connect with Anaheim ditch. Miss J. Kelley, teacher of Primary Department of the Placentia school, has regained her position and Miss Lazzie A. MacMillan of Los Angeles has been elected to succeed her. The vacation has been extended another week on account of bad roads and wet and cold weather.
It is rumored that some wealthy eastern railroad men have associated themselves with the new railroad company that was incorporated to build the motor road to Carlton. The road is now to be broad standard gauge and will be constructed from the ocean to Pomona via Anaheim, Placentia and Carlton.

While it is so muddy and disagreeable in Los Angeles, would it not be a good idea to let some of these eastern people know that Anaheim is a dry, clean town, and far more pleasant to stop a few weeks than Los Angeles at this season of the year.
When this fifty mile circuit of electric wire is stretched from Olive Heights through Orange, Tustin, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Fullerton, Pascentia, Carlton, Richfield and back to Olive to complete the circuit, we hope to have one or two lights at Pascentia. Little did we dream a few years ago of the changes that were so soon to take place: two railroads passing through our valley; telegraphs on course to follow; then will follow telephones, electric light, cold storage, warehouses, hotels, three or four towns—and the improvement has just begun.

AN Eastern exchange says the boom in California real estate now exciting so much attention is, while unprecedented, natural enough after all. It is only within a comparatively recent period that the public has become acquainted with the unrivaled attractions of California as a place of residence, at least during the winter time. Until personal experience proved their veracity, the stories of the marvelous California climate and the wonderful products of the Pacific Coast soil were received with a large grain of salt. But with better railroad facilities, and thorough competition, it became possible for people of even moderate means to visit the rumored wonderland. They came and were conquered, and California's boom began to incubate. Winter residences were built, and each gave impetus to the erection of another. The title of travel and investment in California lands increased with it. The boom grow' apart, and now, though it has assumed stupendous proportions, it gives no signs of abating. While the purely occupative portion of it must in time be eliminated, there is every reason to believe that in residence property the climax is yet far distant. Wealthy Americans are sensibly coming to the conclusion that their country presents as many diversified attractions as foreign lands they have been in the habit of visiting, and in devoting one attention to them have discovered California, as a winter resort, sur-

We have been inhaling the balmy sophyrs from the snow on the mountains for a few days, and the people that have come here recently from the east are delighted with the privilege of looking again upon the familiar ice that has formed about the thickness of an ordinary pane of glass, and to be greeted with the antiquated salutation: "Is this cold enough for you?" Our neighbor, Mrs. Geo. Hough, especially wears a perpetual smile as she sings: "A home in the ice is the home for me."
Mr. Cook, the carpenter, recently from Michigan, who has been shopping here temporarily, moves today to Santa Ana.
The shadow of death has fallen upon the family of Mr. White." Their eldest child, Ella, aged nearly ten years, died of memorial creep. Her parents have sympathy of this entire community in their bereavement.
We had Rev. Dr. Goodwin with us a few evenings since to lecture on the temperature question. He is an eloquent speaker.
Miss Louise Hill, our efficient music teacher, has been suffering for some time from a gathering in the head which has caused her intense suffering.
The Los Angeles Herald says, admirably: "We are enabled to lay before our readers authentic information in reference to an improvement that will be of incontinable value to Los Angeles. The Atchison, Topanga and Santa Fe Company, through one of their agents, have secured the right way for a road from this city to this Alamitos mash-and through that ranch to one of the longest harbors on this coast, just this side of the old Alamitos Landing."
Copyright in Clippings.
An important issue is regard to the rights of newspapers and journals issuing within the United Kingdom, which have been decided in England. The preamble of The Belfinder now expresses its intention against The British Title, as follows: "Ganette to restrain the latter propelling articles, essays, articles and other matter." Mr. James Birling, on the motion of the defender that the motion should be restricted to the total of the action, gestured a perpendicular injunction, and of the writ and a reference as to damnation. As affectionate poke and admiration edits the whole unknowledgeable amalgam that has lither to go on another perhaps one of the most important issues in connection with literary copyright described—The Journalist.
There is a reason for employing French in modern bill of fare which is quite practical. It is that there are many culinary terms and arrangements and combination food for which in English definitions can be found. The French, having for many genius pursued the art and science of cookery with ardor and success, have, as is always case in such undertakings, gradually evolved a terminology of the kitchen. This no analogies in English, because the English though possessing always a robustary, and though in their former colonies developing a refinement beyond the tundray, have never attained the complexity and variety of discrimination and combination depicted in France. From these facts it reatt that unless many French dishes are written in Prepach words they can not be carried at all—The Argonaut.
Gen. N. P. Banks and Daughter.
Les Mand Banks, who is at present in Philadelphia, asserts that her going upon the receipt the cordial approval of her agents. Her father attends all her performances when she is playing anywhere near on, although before her debut he took no interest in themical matters. "He is now, until the other day," 71 years old, and his white as silver; but when I am at his forgets 20 years of his age. We live farm of sixty acres just outside of Boston and dather manages to spend all the surrevenue from his office as United States shall in agricultural experiments. But farm does not interfere with his official duties, as he is in his office daily."—New York Times.
