THE RAILROAD SITUATION.
Latest Facts Developed This Week.
The Athelson Road Purchase Two Thousand Acres Near Anaheim Laming for a Mariner Mile Net.
The Athelson Trucks and Santa P. Company have already consumed the purchase of two thousand acres of land between Long Beach and Anaheim Laming. This stop is where the mountains of New River and Coyote Creek empty into the ocean. Here is where the Athelson railroad will construct a wharf and form one of the least harbors on the coast. This is the location of their line, as predicted in this week.
The site, we are reliably informed, was secured only after a thorough survey and inspection by competent engineers in the employ of the railroad company, who have for some weeks been at work in the vicinity. The announcement that the harbor at this point was far superior to Ballona, resulted at once in the company's purchase of the land. This is practically an abandonment of Ballona.
The company will begin the construction of a branch line from their terminus through Westminster and Garden Grove to Anaheim and north toward San Bernardino, passing through Fallerton, Placentia and Carlton. Our prediction of last week turns out to have been correct, that as soon as the graders on the road between Anaheim and Los Angeles shall have completed their failure they will be transferred to the road from Los Angeles to Long Beach and the Landing Station which they will immediately give their attention to the road from the ocean to Anaheim.
It is said the Southern Pacific will move their depot and warehouses into town, and that their eye is fixed upon Palm street as an available point. This is considered to be a wise step on the part of the railroad, as they would thereby be better able to compete for business passage with the Athelson road with its depot in the center of town. The general impression is that the Town Trustees will abandon the street to the area of the Southern Pacific if they should ask for the privilege. Palm street was originally and Los Angeles streets, comprising the streets of Calham, Kumpan, Pallegra and the Port-a-linne. This is the hunt paying property in Anaheim, has good tenants and is the business center of town.
The block of land, comprising 15 large lots, on Center street near the new depot and hotel and adjoining the new two story brick building to be created by Mr. Reiner.
The block of land of about 2 acres west of the school house, anaheim in fence and planted in alfalfa. It is the prominent residence property in town.
Several choose lots on Los Angeles street, near the Old Yellow Hall.
Seventy-five acres near the town of Palletion, bounded on the west by the vineyard of Henry Kreiger, and on the north by the cottage farm. This is a splendid piece of property, in a neighborhood where land is rapidly advancing.
Some very fine acres property in Yorba district.
A major particular description of the property is given in the legal act of the sale published in our advertising column. The terms of the sale are half cash, balance in one year at 8 per cent.
This state presents an opportunity to secure the cream of Anaheim property at bedrock prices.
FROM PLACEMENT.
The Best Way of Supplying Carlsbad With Water Notes.
The principal experiment in our usually quiet settlement during the past week was the numerous visitors to the new town of Carlton on Richfield Farm, or the old Shanklin ranch, and on the line of the proposed Anaheim Landing and Pomona railroad. We suppose that hundreds must have passed through Placentia to look at the town and lay it down. It is said that the sales have been a success. We hope for the success of the town that no misrepresentations have been made. In questioning of the purchasers where they proposed to get water for domestic purposes, he said that the town had first right to the water in the Capitol district, sufficient for all purposes, free. We asked him how he asserted that fact; he said he had been informed so by the parties who were selling the land. If such representations are being made there will be trouble in the future.
Shanklin reserved the right to 20,000 gallons daily for stock and domestic purposes for the whole ranch of over 5,000 acres. Carlton contains only 320 acres it not likely that this franchise has been conveyed to the town, thereby depriving the balance of tuna water for domestic purposes. Upon again, often for weeks the water is out of the ditch. At such times what will be brought from the bait? "We can bring from the bait successful hatchings."
A DAY AT THE LAND
In Search of Malibu and Flover.
A Party of Numbers, Pulling to Mindy Bird, Rephanie Smith With the Aid of Grace A Hammond Rose
A day spent in boating and dock at a time sport. At this season of unannounced wild fish are to be found and many hunters enjoy themselves in mallard and plover. A party of men among whom were Mr. Alex B. C. Derham, Sergeant Thomas A writer, amused themselves one day in boating at the Landing and tramping through marshes in quest of the plover. Leaving Anaheim at daybreak provided with huge lunch baskets, of a couple of hours landed on in the boroad of the coming harbor. Second beat of Commodee Ivans, the Lamina face, a row of some four or five mullows, the creeks and shoals brought up the home of the game of which they request a tramp through these muddy swamps except he be alert for a flock of mallard to arise from a sheltering to stream near by. The editorial team beats with animation as a vision of birds under the adjacent bank arise when stealing stealthily along waist in as barbarous a creation of mud went to discourage mortal, the streak rived at, disables nary fowl, haws vertices to sensors and pastopot back at once; and when scratching the air pattens upon the fullity of traveling a miles for nothing but a mod bath one appeared on a kick of money played a little to the left and wing themselves rapidly up to the successful hunter book a lunar, and wondering what his chance might be for the dozen ducks which are due discretion placed upon display, hand浸vertently like, sweeps the reef of most leopard trusser's pack see if sufficient change remains for this change of the shoread successful hunter book a lunar, and wondering what his chance might be for the dozen ducks which are due discretion placed upon display, hand浸vertently like, sweeps the reef of most leopard trusser's pack see if sufficient change remains for this change of the shoread successful hunter book a lunar, and wondering what his chance might be for the dozen ducks which are due discretion placed upon display, hand浸vertently like, sweeps
It is said the Southern Pacific will move their depot and warehouses into town, and that their eye is fixed upon Palm street as an available point. This is considered to be a wise step on the part of the railroad, as they would thereby be better able to compete for business passage with the Atchison road with its depot in the center of town. The general impression is that the Town Trustees will abandon the street to the area of the Southern Pacific if they should ask for the privilege. Palm street was originally the route selected by the Southern Pacific for its entrance into town, but in account of some difficulties then existing, the depot site was selected at the southern end of Anahiem. If the report proves true the change will be of decided benefit both to the railroad and the town.
On last Saturday morning after the Atchison graders had moved their camp from Pallerton to a pump beyond Buena Park, they were ordered to camp and join the force of gravels heading toward Anahiem from Los Angeles. What the object of the railroad company was in this change is not particularly clear, but it appears to be a temporary stop or a temporary halt. It was decided to order trains near Buena Park to join the mine reserves on the line for the purpose of maintaining matters. Some tenor of these changes did not occur shortly after the junction of the roads 1, and care is being taken into Anahiem by the end of January.
There have been no injuries during the week of a change in the routes of the Atchison road in the region of Buena Park, some reports being that the company had deterred them to construct their own road somewhat to the north of the proposed route after leaving Pallerton. Nothing de novo could be learned, however, except that whatever may be the route chosen, iron should be laid into Anaheim in about six weeks.
THE RESERVoir
Impurity and Discharge of the Great Water Shield
Work upon the large reservoir of the Anahiem Water Company has been progressing favorably during the past few weeks. The total capacity of the main reservoir is computed at 33,000,000 cubic feet, and the storage capacity in the lower reservoir at about 20,000,000 cubic feet giving a total round numbers of 59,000,000 cubic feet of total reservoir capacity, equal to $31,000,000 gallons.
A head of water of 103 inches will consume 68,400 cubic feet in twelve hours, and the two reservoirs will hold sufficient to run two heads of water during twelve hours each day for 67 days without taking into account the stream flowing into the reservoirs. No necessity will exist for sailing when termed night water after the system once adopted. The cost of the undertaking is estimated at $30,000. This is an insignificant sum compared to what such a reservoir would ordinarily cost. This is due to the fact that the site designated to the water company is not available.
Shaklin reserved the right to 20,000 gallons daily for stock and domestic purposes for the whole ranch of over 5,000 acres. Carlton contains only 320 acres it is not likely that this franchise has been conveyed to the town, thereby depressing the balance of the tounge of water for domestic purposes. Town again, often for weeks the water is out of the ditch. At such times what will be citizens of a town do for water? "It can be brought from the bill" says one. "Yes, but there is not a spring or stream of good water in the little flowing south." There is abundance of water to be held by means of a reservoir at Point 12; make arrangements with the down company to fill it; put in a pump and pump water to the town through pipes, and no other way can it be had.
Fresh air is a cheap commodity and a vital necessity. In passing through the county authorities average county schools during school time with doors and windows closed and snake ascending from the chimney, while there are somewhere in the gang bed or of the 80s, away at that a little more practical physiology. In our climate children are out on the trees wherever they can get out; to keep them in a room where workers and doctors are shut up as tight as a collinion, they will consume all the oxygen in the average room in less than an hour, then they begin to breathe poison. It suffices breath more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus, type and fever, sleep more thinaus,
All building is about stopped in San Diego. San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties on account of secrecy in building material. Mechanics are thrown out of employment. In some places it is lack of shingles, others dooring, other lath, lime, oil etc. The building boom has been so great that it is simply impossible for dealers to keep up their stock.
A slop building is being erected at Richfield station where the function of the San Diego road meets the South Riverdale and Los Angeles road. We hear that there will soon be lots placed on the market and the managers say they will make it a success. They have advantage of having plenty of water, and close to the main trunk railroad all. Mr. El Newman has returned from his northern trip. He drove as far north as Stockton in search of a home and health. It seems that he found neither. His health has not improved, and Los Angeles county is good enough for him.
John Hatebrink is about well.
Miss Carrie Kilwarden is dangerously ill with typhoid fever. She is with her sister Mrs. Lemoke.
Mr. John Wagner's brother and family who spent last winter here, returned to Michigan, closed up his business, and has come to stay. He is stopping with Mr. J. D.Kraemer until he suits himself with a permanent location.
The time is not far distant when all of our fair valleys will be so thickly settled with people who want homes that there will be but little room left for cultivation. The boom has not yet begun.
Mr Strain has a friend who just arrived for work.

A SEVERE WINDSTORE.
A Dismurous Gale Does Much Ease in Several Places
An old time Santa Ana, such as has been experienced here in years, began Saturday night, but alighted Sunday since then desultory "blows" have been rule until Tuesday night, when another spring up. Yesterday was disagreeable account of the wind, but from accountsceived from several sections of the courseabout we have not had sucha weather as has prevailed at other places.
Riverdale has had a terrible gale for past three or four days which did damage to the orange crop, blowing signs,e.g., The new hotel at Lordsturghpartially blown down. It is said thatthe contractor will be $8,000 or over.eral roofs at Pasalana were bleached houses and the Presbyterian church damaged considerably. At Monk Hill three halls were bleamed down and two persons injured One old lady it is thought receivedinjuries. On Sunday nightthe hotcourse of construction at Pasalanablown down and damaged inthe extra$5,000.The wind in Los Angeles has caused more fortunately thanplaces in the county.
It is said that over twenty winthillsblown down in Santa Ana,together
A head of water of 103 inches will assume 86,400 cubic feet in twelve hours, and the two reservoirs will hold sufficient to run two heads of water during twelve hours each day for 67 days without taking into account the stream flowing into the reservoirs. No necessity will exist for selling what is termed night water after the system is once adopted. The cost of the undertaking is estimated at $30,000. This is due to the fact that the site donated to the water company, situated on the Kraemer tract, six miles from town, is almost in itself a natural reservoir, covering some 41 acres. Both from its elevation and the natural configuration of the earth at that point the site selected is remarkably well adapted for the purposes of a storage reservoir, such as it is proposed to construct. All the material required in the work, except the small amounts of lumber, stone and time which will be needed, are to be found at or near the site and are of good quality. From the nature of the ground it is thought that the loss of water from leakage and dilution will be very slight. Owing to the lack of reliable data the loss from evaporation it is impossible to calculate even approximately. In view of the volume of water constantly entering the reservoirs, however, this is a matter of minor importance.
The outlet pipe will probably have a diameter of thirty feet and a length of one hundred feet, with a bell-shaped mouth at its inner end. The total head of water being 154 feet, for a depth of twenty feet at the drain, the velocity will be 213 feet per second and the discharge ten cubic feet, or seventy-five gallons per second, equal to about 27,000 gallons per hour. This discharge of water would empty the two reservoirs, supporting that no water would enter them meanwhile, in forty-even days; but were the depth of water to be increased to twenty-five feet at the dam it would require six by-nine days to empty the two reservoirs.

Search of Mallard and Plover.
Perry at Hunters, Falling to Mug the Minnow Mind, Berkshire Theatrical with the Aid of God of the Realm A Hempannom Launch.
Day spent in boating and duck shooting on the creeks and marches at the Landing rare sport. At this season of the year amenable wild fowl are to be found there, many hunters or just themselves bagging mallard and plover. A party of hunts among whom were Mr. Alex. Henry, Dr. Ham, Sergeant Thomas and the amused themselves one day recently visiting at the Landing and tramping high the marshes in quest of the slaves. Leaving Anaheim at daybreak, well maned with huge lunch baskets, a drive couple of hours landed on in the neighborhood of the coming harbor. Securing a boat of Commodee Davis, the Laming board row of some four or five miles along breaks and stops brought the party to some of the game of which they were in. A tramp through the muddy and dangerous marshes is only to be heard by the hunter when generous game dogs. No one would think of wading deep through these muddy swamps except he be alert for a flock of teal or red to arise from a sheltaring turn in stream near by. The editorial heart with animation as a vision of a covey under the adjacent bank arises, but stealing stealthily along, waist deep barbarous a creation of mud as ever to discourage mortal, the stream, arach, discloses nary fowl, the heart reto sensors and pastpot back at the off-hand when scratching the airy pate and upon the folly of traveling a score for nothing but a mud bath with appeared on, a flick of mosey arrive to the left and wing themselves too out of sight, one’s thoughts rests on successful hunter back at the ing, and wondering what his charges be for the dozen ducks which are with discretion placed upon display, one’s mindvertently like, seeks the receives most bespattered trouser’s pocket to sufficient change remains for the purpose of this storeaid successful hunter’s search of Mallard and Plover.
