NEW RAILROADS. Great Things in Store for Anaheim. The Landing to Be Made a Great Harbor. Anaheim a Division Headquarters for the A., T. & P. Arriving to be Stepped Toward Santa Ana at South Street, but in Vigorous Push toward Los Angeles Various Other Notes. The grading force of the Atahison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad have pushed their operations during the past week with all possible speed. The railbed is now graded to Broadway and extends north some three miles. It is understood the road will be graded only to South street when the force at Anaheim will be transferred to a new camp at Pullerton. The reason given by railroad officials recently at Anaheim for continuing grading beyond South street is the unattended state of affairs now existing in Santa Ana with regard to the deeds to depot grounds, together with some demands made upon the railroad company by the people across the river. It seems that Santa Ana is destined that a division headquarters be established at that place. It is also whispered that the coin subscribed for depot privileges and lands in the immediate neighborhood has failed to materilize. We give the rumors for what they are worth. But of one thing we are certain: An officer high in the councils of the Atahison Railroad Company remarked a few days ago that Santa Ana would not be made a division headquarters. That town has been ever on the alert to demand this and that, but beginning a gentleman well known to many of the All settlers of Anaheim. He has a valuable mountain reach twenty miles and of Tamaulipa. In an interview with him gathered some valuable statistics concerning the Indians in the various reservations of San Diego county. There have been thirty Indian schools supported by the Government, but owing to the indictment of teachers, etc., seven have been dismissed. There is one school now at Kinloch, one at Hoya, one at Agua Caliente, one at San Juanito, and one at Calmilla Valley. Each teacher receives $720 per month. The schools there are estimated to cost $600 each; books, slates, maps, etc., are furnished by the Government, in addition to many other expenses, such as the superintendent, who receives $100 per month and traveling expenses. It is seriously questioned whether the expense is justified judging from the benefits derived. Then there is an Indian Agent who lives at Colton, from fifty to one hundred and fifty miles from the Indiana, who receives $1,600 per annum, and if he wishes to communicate with the Indians he sends out for them and they all satellite their positions and gallop in, living off the people on the road. This agent has an interpreter or servant at 849 a month, and house rent and home hire. Then there is a doctor who lives where he can ot be found when wanted, at $100 per month and all medicines furnished. The Government also farms seeds, wagons and farming implements. It is said that the Indians turn their seed into ready coin at Temecula and thereby save the trouble and expense of hauling it out to the reservation. These Indians are strong, able-bodied men and women from $125 to $150 each day but refuse to work. At the last census, there were 2,300 Indians, all told. The Government withholds $80,000 acres of excellent land in San Diego and San Bernardino counties from settlement for the benefit of these Indians and in some of the reservations but two or three families live upon them, in another the United States Marshal has removed all the white settlers and not an Indian occupies the soil. It is suggested that the best method of solving the Indian problem is for the California Legislature to make them citizens, give them elective franchises and schools the same as other citizens; then the teachers who formerly received their appointment through favor and not by qualification, and who it is said, send a check to the agent each quarter as compensation for getting them positions, would be removed and qualified teachers take their place. But, as our party are already hitched up and ready to move on east, I must stop for the present. W.M. McPainn. RADIO, San Diego Co., Cal., Nov. 11, 1887. THE LANDING RAILROAD Steps Taken for Ocean Railroad. Right of Way to Be Secured Franchise to Be Applied Joint Stock Company Formed—A Mutual at the M The contemplated railroad from Anaheim to the landing in being passed over by Field. During the past week Messner field, A. Rumpan and Kraeger account by Mr. Woods as engineer, drove over proposed route, and entertained that a difficult piece of grading would be secured. A deal to a right of way Squal Pass will at once be obtained which point the only really difficult will have to be done. The result will certainly acquire a gradual rise as far divide and some stretches of the bed about will be more difficult than the route of the track. The whole length ever, with these exceptions, is as long could be desired. A franchise will be mediately applied for and a stock contract formed with a capital of $250,000. If the road be extended as far as Paso as it is now expected it will matter will doubtless be given the enterprise locality. It will be a direct line from section to the ocean and incalculably easy to the entire route it traverses. Los Angeles capitalists are interested in undertaking, and are said to be able to push matters at once. The best use of Anaheim are also interested in thisposed railroad, and with their inclusion based with the outable capital which was ready to be invested in the measure, they are with the aid undoubtedly to be acquired throughout the entire line, it is safe to dict that a speedy beginning of the prize will be made. The road will redound immensely to welfare of Anaheim, and once complete town will be the radiating point of large lines of railway, two of these transcontinental roads, and the other shorter than the other two, tapping as far a section of country as exists on earth. is destroys that a division headquarters be established at that place. It is also whispered that the coin subscribed for depot privileges and lands in the immediate neighborhood has failed to materilize. We give the rumors for what they are worth. But of one thing we are certain: An officer high in the counsels of the Atchison Railroad Company remarked a few days ago that Santa Ana would not be made a division headquarters. That town has been ever on the alert to demand this and that, but when the time for planking down the coin approaches, some people are unkind enough to say that the Santa Ana are "not there." We can give it out that Anaheim is on the arc of lasting favors at the hands of the new railroad, partly because of the good will manifested by our people toward them, partly because of petty misunderstandings and distemper elsewhere, and partly because of the eligible location of our town. The road, while being temporarily discontinued toward Santa Ana, will be vigorously pushed toward Los Angeles, and it is anticipated ears will be running into the Orange street depot by the end of February at the latest. As yet the gang of railroad laborers on route to Anaheim from Colorado have not arrived, but as all the Atchison connections have been made there, the graders and tracklayers are looked for immediately. It is difficult to say what the future has in store for Anaheim at the hands of the Atchison people. It is said Anaheim will be made the division headquarters and central point for its system of railroads in the southern part of the State. With a safe harbor at Anaheim Landing they will undoubtedly ask for wharf privileges, and it is even said that steps to that end are already in progress. With a convenient outlet to the ocean, which the Atchison people have not as yet acquired in this part of the state, and which must ultimately be their one great object, the effects of the Company will be redoubled. A sale anchorage in Los Angeles county is one of the objective points of this road. That anchorage will be in the immediate vicinity of Anaheim Landing; in fact, it will be "right than"; and don't you forget it. At the advent of the Atchison road in this State, the Southern Pacific immediately purchased Senator Fair's narrow-gauge railroad, its principal object being laid at that time to be the shutting-out of their new rival from an anchorage at San Francisco. Whether this be so or not, it is nevertheless true that the Atchison people have been balked in their every attempt to secure a landing at the metropolis. Their eyes are now turned to Los Angeles county for an ocean outlet, and Anaheim Landing is the destroys that a division headquarters be established at that place. We passed up through the Santa Ana canyon on Saturday and on through South Riverside. The evidence of enterprises and prosperity which we noticed on our former visit did not seem to be so prominent. We arrived at the Harrington reason, where we drew lots off who should do the cooking. Mr. Sharp drew the prime, and he performed his duties in such a satisfactory manner, we united in a solemn compact to give him a recommendation for chief chef at Delmonico's, or any one else, in case he needs such recommendation. As we advanced we passed through Turner Cottin City, where large buildings were erected for the purpose of making pipe, orrotery, fire-baths, etc. In Minneapolis we found great private and public improvements. About twenty new houses have been erected during the last five or six weeks. We then met Mr. King, the gentleman whispered in the apachehue pipe in the Anaheim district two years ago. He is now engaged in painting an electric stream railroad around Lake Elgin—Dixon miles all together. All the railroad stations we saw here are new buildings; but they are by the order of the city council. The town was filled with people who were interested in "Tennessee." One of them, John T. Gray from Renton, was and found guilty on four charges. On guilt homestead for which he was convicted he was also charged with alimony. He had been informed that he would hold the land with a gift and paid for stock. This could be easily moved to the property world if more than usual by the insurance company. A meeting was held at the schoolhouse last Friday evening, at which the question of dividing the school district was discussed. Commonwealth Avenue also came in for a small share of attention. In regard to the former proposition, a committee was appointed consisting of Ms. Anna Schultz, McDermott and Smith, for the purpose of containing the most equitable and公正 division possible to be made. At present the line agreed to give the proposed new district that portion of Orangehorse lying north and east of the following boundaries: Commencing at a point on the section road between Means Nicholas and McDermott, thence along said line to the line between Means, Porter and Kerr; thence south to Orangehorse avenue; thence east to the line between Means and Springer; thence south to the line of Anaheim school district; thence east, ate on the old line of Orangehorse district to the point of beginning. This will give Fallerton, if the partition is made, a large and populous district. Active preparations are going forward in all quarters for the winter work; and while there are no indications of an increased scrap being cultivated this winter, this is accounted for on a thoroughly logical hypothesis: The farmers' Of Orangehorse必将 all their land every year. Name improvements our Anaheim. We are in receipt of a letter from a gentleman largely instructed in Anaheim property, who has undoubtedly great faith in the future of the town. Speaking about the many improvements contemplated he makes the following suggestions: "By all means let us demand all the late a settlement and improvements among the rent a motor or other road from Placenta to Anaheim. It is a project of much importance not only to Placenta, but in Anaheim. It is something that all progressive citizens of Anaheim should have alive more especially the business community. If Anaheim don't capture this rich settlement some other town will therefore now in the time. It ought to be their object to attract all the trade possible from all quarters, making Anaheim the center of a vast and rich country. A master read or even a sturdy line would be of importance to all. Engagements and progressive men would like to see the town take a front rank, and in order to ensure the enterprise of the town many are willing to do their shares. It is supposed that each prospective owner in Anaheim that builds such mill for such farm from that which does it in Anaheim will be able to build such mill for such farm from that which does it in Anaheim." The Committee on Reservoir report that they had inspected the ground neatly staked off the length thereof to the size of some hundred feet. As a supporter report the Committee stated they inspected the crossing made by the railway company across the ditch, and found it infinitely done. With reference to the indebtedness Mr. David Yorba to the company for all of Cota and Rilma trusts, it was deemed to proceed against the gentleman at court as well as be instituted. The Secretary and Superintendent parts were received, read and ordered by the Committee on Main before water is turned in, and thus properly dismissed. The Town Treasurer were notified that pair of ditch on Broadway, if not be enclosed capacity to accommodate the use necessary. The Secretary was instructed to make Division Superintendent Hobart of Atchison Road to replace any doubt that may be interrupted in the construction of the railroad, so that a terrace of the flow of water may be perished. At of Way to Be Secured and a Branch to Be Applied at A Rimpan Beach Company to be formed - A Hotel at the Membrane. The contemplated railroad from Anaheim Landing in being passed energetically During the past week Menera, Little A. Rimpan and Krieger accompanied Mr. Woods as engineer, drove over the road route, and acquainted that no very little pieces of grading would be encountered. A deal to a right of way through Palm will at once be obtained, at which point the only really difficult work have to be done. The result will easily acquire a gradual rise as far as the land and some stretches of the bed there will be more difficult than the general of the track. The whole length, how with these exceptions, is as level as be desired. A franchise will be initially applied for and a stock company with a capital of $750,000. The road be extended as far as Pomona, now expected it will material and doubtless be given the enterprise at that city. It will be a direct line from that to the ocean and of incalculable benefit to the entire route it traverses. Angeles capitalists are interested in shortaking, and are said to be anxious matters at once. The best citizens them are also interested in the principal, and with their means committing the outrage capital which stands to be invested in the measure, together with the all undoubtedly to be acquired about the autre line, it is safe to presume at a speed beginning of the enterail be made. Total will redound immensely to the extent Anaheim, and once completed the will be the radiating point of three lines of railway, two of these being continental roads, and the other, while than the other two, tapping as fertile country as exists on earth. A bitter struggle to Known for the Regency of the Kaiser and Crown Princes. New York, November 20. A communication has just been published in a paper here signed "A Goldman of the Crown Prince," in which it is said that the empire of Germany is on the eve of a greater catastrophe than is generally known. It says that Prince William's health is very precarious, owing to a never-ending succession of alarms in the ear between the tympanum and the back of the brain. The danger is a result of meningitis and inflammation of the brain, a disease which killed the late king of Prussia after making him insane for several years. In addition, it must be borne in mind that unlike his father, Prince William's general health is extremely bad, and his left arm is almost useless, having been wilted since his birth. The writer contends: "In the event of an insanity or death of Prince William, one or other of which appears to be inevitable within a measurable distance of time, the imperial crown on the demise of the old Kaiser and the Crown Prince, devolves on Prince William's little 4-year-old son. A latter struggle would ensue for the regency, in which Berlin and the court party are determined the Crown Princess Victoria shall have no share. The animosity with which she has long been regarded by Bismarck and by the whole of the ultra German party, of which the late Prince Frederick Charles was one of the leaders, is almost inconceivable; and since the Crown Prince's illness it has been increased in intensity. In the event of a long minority, it is difficult to discover a member of the imperial or royal family who would be fit to undertake the regency if the Crown Princess is left out of consideration. Prince Henry, the 22-year old son of the Crown Prince, a bright and popular lad, has scarcely outgrown his boyhood, and his experience of anything outside the naval profession to which he belongs would totally unfit him for so serious a responsibility. Prince Frederick Charles, who passed through New York on his way home from San Francisco last spring, is only about 22 years of age, and although still a boy, enjoys the distinction jointly with the oldest son of the Crown Prince, of being the most complete stock Dry Goods!
