TEE POETS' CORNER.
The Gazette editor has no music in his soul, neither has he much ear for poetry. But the drawer in the editorial desk, where it is placed' poetical contributions, having become so gorged that it must be relieved of its contents somehow, we select the best effusions from the mass, and herewith lay them before our readers:
A Few Facts in Poetic Style
We went to Santa Ana,
The Pomological to meet;
We met the sad-faced delegates,
But found nothing there to eat.
We started to a restaurant,
To get a cup of tea,
And met a friend from Anaheim,
Who said, "Come and dine with me."
She had a big lunch basket filled,
She was very kind and free;
She had been to Santa Ana before,
And knew just how it would be.
They had a fine display of fruit,
But flowers very few;
They did not decorate their hall,
As Anaheim ladies do.
Let Santa Ana boast
Of street cars and churches fine,
But give me dear old Anaheim,
With all her beer and wine.
For socially and morally,
Her banner is unfurled,
And is ever badding welcome
To all nations of the world.

A few words to them, one and all,
And this they'll please remember:
I do not wish a wife who flirts
From January to December.
I do not wish a wife who wants
To go to every ball;
I do not wish a wife who wants
To even dance at all.
For look at the divorce list,
Where many have sadly parted;
You'll find, with Satan at a ball,
That very thing was started.
My wish is for a pleasant wife,
Whose knowledge is complete;
Can cook and iron, wash and sew,
And do all things up neat.
And when the business of the day,
Has swiftly glided by,
Can walk into the parlor,
And the piano music try.
Or step into the carriage,
And by her husband's side
Glide swiftly over hill and vale,
And take a splendid ride.
Now to the fair one who may want
To be a happy wife.
Who does not care a fig
For the fashions of this life,
Who is seeking for a happy home,
As soldiers seek a bounty,
That you'll find with C. W. M——

Those Who "Build Upon the Sand."
"Tis well to woo; 'tis well to wed,
For so the world has done,
Since myrtles grew and roses blew,
And morning brought the sun.
But have a care, ye young and fair,
Be sure ye pledge the truth;
Be certain that your love will wear beyond the days of youth.
For if ye give not heart for heart,
As well as hand for hand,
You'll find you've played the "unwise" part And "built upon the sand."
'Tis well to save; 'tis well to have,
"A goodly store of gold;
And hold enough of shining stuff,
For charity is cold.
But place not all your hopes and trust In what the deep mine brings;
We cannot live on yellow dust,
Unmixed with purer things.
And he who piles up wealth alone,
Will often have to stand Beside his coffers' chest, and own 'Tis "built upon the sand."
'Tis good to speak in kindly guise,
And soothe whatever we can;
For speech should bind the human kind,
And love link man to man.
But stay not at the gentle words,
Let deed with language dwell;
The one who pities starving birds,
Should scatter crumbs as well.

Still Another.
It is very gratifying to receive testimonials like the following from Mr. Wm. Lammon of Summerville, Oregon: "I have been using the National Horse Liniment for two years, and have found it far superior to anything I have ever used. It does all that it is recommended to perform, and I cannot do without it." Mr. W. M. Higgins is the agent.

Never Give Up.
If you suffer with asthma, bronchitis, consumption, bronchial catarrh or any disease of the throat, chest or lungs, you will be surprised at the rapid improvement that will follow the use of a few bottles of SAN-TA ARIEK, the most potable cough cure in the world. Guaranteed by A. Krug.
Wonderful Cures.
W. D. Hoyt & Co., Wholesale and Retail Druggists of Rome, Ga., say: We have been selling Dr. King's New Discovery, Electric Bitters and Bucklen's Arnica Salve for two years. I have never handled remedies that sell as well, or give such universal satisfaction. There have been some wonderful cares effected by these medicines in this city. Several cases of pronounced consumption have been entirely cured by use of a few bottles of Dr. King's New Discovery, taken in connection with Electric Bittera. We guarantee them always. Sold by A. Krug.
Two remarkable specimens of deformed fish, says Notare, were taken from a rearing pond at Dulaford and brought to the South Kensington Aquarium. One is a trout about three years old, whose tail is bent to such an extreme that it stands at right angles with the body of the fish. Its mode of progress is labored, and its appearance is very peculiar. The other specimen is an ordinary sickleback, measuring four inches in length, whose body is swollen through droop to the extent of one inch in diameter. At first sight its appearance is similar to a young mouse, and it requires close inspection to grasp the fact that it is a fish. It moves very slowly, with great expenditure of force, the weight of the contorted body being considerable.
Unnecessary Misery.
Probably as much misery comes from habitual constipation as from any derangement of the functions of the body, and it is difficult to cure, for the reason that no one likes to take the medicines usually prescribed. HAMBURG FIGS were prepared to obviate this difficulty, and they will be found pleasant to the taste of women and children. 25 cents. At all druggists. J. J. Mack & Co., proprietors, S. F.
In London, not long since, a saintly individual tried to offer up prayer at a meeting of his creditors. Among the latter was a rough Scotchman, who, amazed at the coolness of the act, shouted: "Sit doon, ye rascally heepcrest! If ye say another wud to the Almighty in my presence, dom me if I dinna kick ye," etc. The creditors roared, the petitioner sat down, and the business of the meeting proceeded.

THE BEST
Hair restorative in the world is Hall's Hair Renewer. It cures all diseases of the scalp, and stimulates the hair glands to healthful action. It stops the falling of the hair; prevents its turning gray; curves baldness, and restores youthful color and freshness of appearance to heads already white with age. The following are a few illustrations of what is done by
HALL'S Vegetable Sicilian HAIR RENEWER:
MRS. HENSBERRY, 344 Franklin Ave., Brooklyn, N. Y., after a severe attack of Erysipelas in the head, found her hair—already gray—falling off so rapidly that she soon became quite bald. One bottle of Hall's Hair Renewer brought it back as soft, brown and thick as when she was a girl.
MR. KESLING, an old farmer, near Worcestershire, had scarcely any hair left, and what little there was of it had become nearly white. One bottle of Hall's Hair Renewer stopped its falling out, and gave him a thick, luxurious head of hair, as brown and fresh as he ever had.
MRS. A. T. WALL, Greenfield, Cheshire, Eng., writes: "I have found the greatest benefit from the use of Hall's Hair Renewer, it having restored my hair, which was rapidly falling off, and returned its original color."
DR. EMIL SEIP, Detroit, Mich., certifies that "Hall's Hair Renewer is excellent for hair growing, and gives back the natural color to faded and gray hair."
MRS. S. E. ELLIOTT, Glenville, W. Va., says: "One bottle of Hall's Hair Renewer restored my hair to its natural, youthful color."
No injurious substances enter into the composition of Hall's Hair Renewer, and it is not a dye. Its vegetable ingredients render it in the highest degree beneficial to the scalp as a preventive of disease. Its effects are natural and lasting, and it does not make the hair dry and brassy, like the so-called restoratives compounded with alcohol.
Buckingham's Dye FOR THE WHISKERS
Is, in four respects, superior to all others.
1st—It will produce a rich, natural color, brown or black, as desired.
2nd—The color so produced is permanent, cannot be washed off, and will not soil anything with which it comes in contact.
3rd—It is as single preparation, and more convenient of application than any other hair or whisker dye.
4th—It contains no deleterious ingredients, as do many preparations offered for like use.

CONSUMPTION,
which is Scrofulous Disease of the Lungs, is promptly and certainly arrested and cured by this God-given remedy, if taken before the last stages of the disease are reached. From its wonderful power over this terrific fatal disease, when first offering this now celebrated remedy to the public, Dr. Pierce thought seriously of calling it his "Consumption Cure," but abandoned that name as too limited for a medicine which, from its wonderful combination of tonic, or strengthening, alterative, or blood-cleansing, anti-bilious pictureal, and nutritive properties, is unequalled not only as a remedy for consumption of the lungs, but for all.
CHRONIC DISEASES OF THE Liver, Blood, and Lungs.
If you feel dull, drowny, debilitated, have yellow color of skin, or yellowish-brown spots on face or body, frequent headache or dizziness, bad taste in mouth, internal heat or chills alternating with hot flashes, low spirits and gloomy borebodings, irregular appetite, and coated tongue, you are suffering from Indigestion, Dysppepsia, and Torpid Liver, or "Billowness." In many cases only part of these symptoms are experienced. As a remedy for all such cases, Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery has no equal.
For Wenk Lungs, Spitting of Blood, Shortness of Breath, Bronchitis Severe Coughs, Consumption, and kindred affections, it is a sovereign remedy. Send ten cents in stamps for Dr. Pierce's book on Consumption. Sold by Druggists.

SS.S.
About twenty years ago I discovered a little sore on my cheek, and the doctors pronounced it cancer. I have tried a number of physicians, but without receiving any permanent benefit. Among the number were one or two specialists. The medicine they applied was like fire to the sore, causing intense pain. I saw a statement in the papers telling what S. S. had done for others similarly afflicted. I procured some at once. Before I had used the second bottle the neighbors could notice that my cancer was healing up. I general health had been bad for two or three years—I had a hacking cough and spit blood continually. I had a severe pain in my breast. After taking six bottles of S. S. my cough left me and I grew stouter than I had been for several years. My cancer has healed over all but a little spot about the size of a half dime, and it is rapidly disappearing. I would advise every one with cancer to give S. S. a fair trial.
