CONSUMPTION, which is Scrofulous Disease of the Lungs, is promptly and certainly arrested and cured by this God-given remedy, if taken before the last stages of the disease are reached. From its wonderful power over this terrible fatal disease, when first offering this now celebrated remedy to the public, Dr. Pierce thought seriously of calling it his "Consumption Cure," but abandoned that name as too limited for a medicine which, from its wonderful combination of tonic or strengthening, alterative, or blood-cleansing, anti-billious, pectoral, and nutritive properties, is unequaled, not only as a remedy for consumption of the lungs, but for all CHRONIC DISEASES OF THE Liver, Blood, and Lungs. If you feel dull, drowsy, debilitated, have shallow color of skin, or yellowish-brown spots on face or body, frequent headache or dizziness, bad taste in mouth, internal heat or chills, alternating with hot flashes, low spirits and gloomy borebodings, irregular appetite, and coated tongue, you are suffering from Indigestion, Dyspepsia, and Torpid Liver, or "Billousness." In many cases only part of these symptoms are experienced. As a remedy for all such cases, Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery has no equal. Each player puts in a quarter, or any other sum agreed upon, and makes his guess, then the melon is cut and the seeds are counted, and the best guesser takes the pool. Something over six hundred seems to be the average number. Mr. Dana says: “The handsome women in New York are not found in the circle which assumes to lead fashion. We do not see them in the boxes at the opera, but encounter them as we walk in the streets or travel in the cars, and they are not the daughters of the rich and luxurious." Connecticut leads in longevity in this country. The majority of very old people are women. Among men, soldiers and farmers are the longest lived. A recent investigator found one hundred ministers who had passed the century limit, but he found only thirty doctors, ten lawyers and ten actors. Prof. Briggs makes an attack, in the Presbyterian Review, on the revised version of the Old Testament. He holds a chair of Hebrew in a leading theological seminary. He charges that the revisers have slavishly followed the Jewish Masoretic text, instead of seeking to secure, as did the New Testament revisers, a correct text; and that they have proved themselves incompetent, from their ignorance of Hebrew grammar, to translate correctly the text as they received it. The Supreme Court of Illinois lays down the principle that the sale of intoxicating liquors is a common-law right of the vendor, and in this respect like the common-law right to sell anything else. The court added that it is competent for the Legislature of any State, unless restrained by some provision in the Constitution thereof, to subject the traffic to regulations or wholly abolish the right of sale as it exists under the common law. This view has repeatedly been taken by the courts of this country. MOTHERS. If you are failing, broken, wormy nervous, use “Wells’ Health Renewer.” Druggists. LIFE PRESERVER. How Diverses are Obtained The following particulars as to the methods of securing divorces in different countries are interesting: Among the Siamese—The first wife may be divorced, not sold, as the others may be. The then may claim the first, third and fifth child, and the alternate children are yielded to the husband. In the Arctic Region—When a man deprives a divorce he leaves the house in anger does not return for several days. The wife understands the hint, packs her clothes and leaves. Tartars—The husband may put away his partner and seek another when it pleases him, and the wife may do the same. If she ill-treated she complains to the magistrate, who, attended by the principal pee-pee, accompanies her to the house and pronounces a formal divorce. Chinese—Divorces are allowed in all cases criminality, mutual dislike, jealousy, incompatibility of temper or too much loquacity on the part of the wife. The husband cannot sell his wife until she leaves him by violation of the law or desertion. A son is bound to divorce his wife if she displeases parents. Jews—In olden times the Jews had a discretionary power of divorcing their wives. Thibetans—Divorces are seldom allowed, less with the consent of both parties—mother of whom can afterward marry. Moors—If the wife does not become the mother of a boy she may be divorced with consent of the tribe, and she can marry again. Abyssinians—No form of marriage is necessary. The connection may be dissolved if renewed as often as the parties think so. Siberians—If a man be dissatisfied with most trifling acts of his wife, he tears cap or veil from her head, and this constitutes a divorce. Coreans—The husband can divorce his wife, and leave her the charge of maintain-the children; if she prove unfaithful, he puts her to death. Druse and Turkoman—Among these peoples if a wife asks a husband's permission to out, and if he says "go" without adding but come back again," she is divorced.
