MARWOOD IN SCOTLAND. The Press Association Glasgow correspondent telegraphs that Marwood [the English Government's executioner] arrived in Glasgow on Tuesday having left Taunton on Monday for noon, after the executions at that place. His presence was known. All day the line from Carlisle, and at every station at which the express stopped, people came forward and looked through his carriage window, some shaking hands with him. He seemed extremely flattered at the reception he experienced, but, owing to the early hour at which he arrived, he was not recognized at the Central Station, Glasgow. He is extremely communicative, and seems by no means ashamed of his calling; and when interrogated does not hesitate to declare himself the servant of the Almighty just as much as a judge or a minister of re- MARMON INDENCY. N.C. says: Great indignation and talk of lynching was the result here to-night of the first public service held at Duncan's Creek by the Mormon missionaries, who have been gathering recruits in this section for the last two weeks. Four missionaries have been holding prayer meetings and presenting flattering inducements to converts. This evening seven women and three men, who have professed the faith, were baptized in Duncan creek. Several hundred people, about half being women, gathered on the banks to witness the ceremony. The place was lit up by pine-knots and torches. The converts and missionaries arrived about 7 o'clock and went into a small house adjoining, and when night fell the whole party of converts, male and female, accompanied by four missionaries, left the building. All of them were entirely naked. At first, as they marched to the water, there were murmurs of surprise among the crowd, soon followed by misses, but they did not interfere with the party. The rite was performed in the middle of the creek, where the water was scarcely waist deep. Two of the missionaries carried lighted pine-knots in their hands. After the ceremony a committee of citizens waited on the Mormons and gave them notice to quit the country at once, on pain of summary justice. Several of the women in the party are quite pretty and have borne good characters. LAKEPORT (Cal.) June 15th. The execution of William Jones, the murderer of his son-in-law at Middletown, June 7, 1882, took place in the County Jail this afternoon in the presence of about thirty spectators. The legal tragedy caused but little excitement. The doomed magician unusually composed, was talkative and for many minutes prior to being taken in charge by the Sheriff engaged himself in warning his small audience against the use of intoxicating The "Personal" Column. The New York Herald has a libel suit on hand, brought by Munro, the notorious publisher of sensational literature for boys. He says in his complaint that he is married and the father of two children, and until recently says he lived happily with his wife and children. He moved in very good society in Brooklyn, and there was not the slightest stain upon his reputation. In April he published a notice in a Brooklyn paper that he would not be responsible for any bills contracted in his name which he had not previously authorized. He says he was one day very much astonished, upon picking up a Herald, to find a personal addressed to Munro. LAKEPORT (Cal.), June 15th. The execution of William Jones, the murderer of his son in law at Middletown, June 7, 1882, took place in the County Jail this afternoon in the presence of about thirty spectators. The legal tragedy caused little excitement. The doomed man seemed unusually composed, was talkative and for many minutes prior to being taken in charge by the Sheriff engaged himself in warning his small audience against the use of intoxicating liquors. When notified that his time was up he ascended the ladder leading to the scaffold with a firm, steady step, and during the adjusting of the punishers and other preparations continued talking to the spectators in an undisturbed tone. It was not until the black cap was produced that he manifested the slightest emotion, and only then by begging earnestly that it might be left off. At 1:40 o'clock the trap fell, suspending the body about one foot below the platform of the scaffold. After hanging seventeen minutes the attending physician pronounced the body lifeless and it was cut down. WETMPKA (Ala.), June 15. Jordan Corbin, who murdered Benjamin Cardin and seriously wounded his wife and son for the purpose of outraging Cardin's daughter, near Coosada, on Monday night, was captured by citizens and put in jail on Wednesday. That night he was taken from the jail by a crowd of 500 and hanged. The crime was the most deliberate, horrible and exasperating conceivable, Cardin staying around the house an hour. It was barricaded by the wounded wife in a bed on which lay the dead husband, shot in the head while asleep by a gun pushed through the window. The daughter escaped to the woods in the night and has since been found almost dead from fright and is not expected to live. The mother and son were very seriously injured, but will recover. They who cry loudest are not always the most hurt. Kidney Wort does its work like the Good Samaritan, quickly, unostentatiously, but with great thoroughness. A New Hampshire lady writes: "Mother has been afflicted for years with kidney diseases. Last spring she was very ill and had an alarming pain and numbness in one side. Kidney-Wort proved a great blessing and has completely cured her." Silkworm green is soberly announced as the latest tint in that shade. Plain jerseys of red or blue are much worn with lawn tennis costumes. Sleeves of dresses and wraps are worn exceedingly high, and full on the shoulder. The Chinese driving cloak with sabot sleeves has taken the place this season of the French resisting note. Silk jerseys, gloves in strawberry red, pale yellow, nun's gray, and black will be more in vogue this summer than kid gloves of any sort. In French importations of costumes the A Pigmy Kingdom. It may not be generally known to the average man, but it is nevertheless a fact that the State of Pennsylvania in itself is as large as England, Ireland and Scotland combined. This statement appears improbable and yet it is beyond refutation. Think then what a praiseworthy enterprise Dr. Swayne has undertaken—not only to cure all the sick people of a place as large as the United Kingdom of Great Britain, but of all the world. Yet he is succeeding. These Pills are acknowledged on every hand the best for curing Riliousness, Indigestion, Headache and all the most frequent illies of flesh. Silkworm green is soberly announced as the latest tint in that shade. Plain jerseys of red or blue are much worn with lawn tennis costumes. Sleeves of dresses and wraps are worn exceedingly high, and full on the shoulder. The Chinese driving cloak with sabot sleeves has taken the place this season of the French ridingote. Silk perseys, gloves in strawberry red, pale yellow, nun's gray, and black will be more in vogue this summer than kid gloves of any sort. In French importations of costumes the polonaise reappears once and again in varied forms, and with endless styles of drapery and garment. White straw bonnets and hats are not considered in quite as good style this season as those of dyed straw in colors of gold, terracotta, amber, bronze, strawberry, olive, nuns' gray, laurel green and brown. The pretty zephyrs in "gingham effects" come in beautiful mixtures of strawberry and olive, pale blue and cream, crossed with hair lines of Venetian red; dark hunter's green and pink, and pale primrose and mauve, crossed with lines of dark, golden brown. Allcock's Porous Plaster CURE WHERE OTHER PLASTERS FAIL EVEN TO RELIEVE. Take no other or you will be disappointed. Insist on having Allcock's. PHILA., 308 NORTH THIRD ST., February 1, 1883. I have been using Allcock's Porous Plasters for a number of years and always with marked benefit. I have been much troubled with Muscular Rheumatism; have been treated by five of our best physicians without receiving any relief whatever. I then used Allcock's Plaster on the parts affected and I can assure you the pain has almost entirely left me. I can recommend them to every one as the best plaster made. I have tried other kinds but found them worthless. B. F. GALLAGHER. Weak Kidneys Cured. CONTOCOOK, N. H., March 3, 1880. I have been greatly troubled with Rheumatism and Weak Kidneys. I was advised to try Allcock's Porous Plasters (had used two other kinds of so-called Porous Plasters, which did me no good), but one of yours has worked like a charm, giving me complete relief, and I have not been troubled with Rheumatism and Kidney Complaint since using them, and I consider myself cured. To railroad men, travelers, miners, lumbermen and others who wear most constantly exposed and who have to make frequent reference to the watch, these qualities are of the most importance. The following letters tell their own story. VALENTIA, GEORGIA, July 20, 1882 "I said no more our Patent Does Proof Cases about ten months ago, and the other day it came back to me with the request to make it wind easier. On examination I found that the stem was rattly, and I inquired into the cause of it. The gentleman stated to me that he was starting some saw logs that had lodged in the head of the river, when his chain caught in a bush and threw his watch into about twelve feet of water, and he was about two hours finding it. When he got it out it was running, and he thought all right. In about three months he found that the stitch was hard to turn and sent it to me. I learn that the watch is all that the Company claims for it and recommends it to all railroad and mill men." R.W. BENTLY" "CLISTON, Iowa, April 23, 1881 "I wish you would send me a spring for the Wm Ellery Watch. By the way this Ellery is a watch sold in your Sereny. Bezel Case to a farmer last fall. The first of January he lost the watch in the woods, and found it this week in about one foot of water. It had lain three months and over in snow and water, with but slight injury to the watch only a hair spring." C.S. RAYMOND" The above were very severe tests and demonstrate beyond a doubt that for any reasonable length of time during which a watch might be under water it would receive no injury whatever. We make those cases in both gold and silver, and as a Perfectly Dust proof Stem Winding Watch Case, Challenge the World to Produce its Equil. For Sale by all First-Class Jewelers. HERE AT LAST. After Long and Weary Waiting Relief is Brought to those who Need it. "Well Pat," said an Orange county Physician to a complaining Irish patient seven years ago, "for that pain in your chest you had better go home and pat on a mustard plaster. I can't think this minute of anything better." And by the way," added the doctor, turning to a friend, "I wish somebody would invent a real good plaster something actually helpful for such cases as Pat." Maybe they will sometime, when it's too late for me to use it. When BENSON'S CAPINE FOROUS PLASTER was placed on the market about ten years ago the doctor's hope became gait. Because of the rare medicinal virtues inherent in it its rapid dispelling the skin and sure results, the vaccine is fast displacing the skin affections to which a plaster is ever applicable.
