Although he received surgical aid immediately he was yesterday much enfeebled from the loss of blood, and it will be a couple of months before the wound is healed. He is stopping at the house of Rev. Mr. Emery.

It is said that land is selling at River-side for $300 per acre. Land, better for general purposes, and equally as good for the production of citrus fruit as that at River-side, can be had in the vicinity of Anaheim from $40 to $75 per acre.
By a vote of 8 to 7, the Common Council of Los Angeles elected Henry King (Democrat) Chief of Police over George Gard (Republican). Honors are now easy. The previous 8 to 7 vote was in favor of the Republicans.
The lot on the corner of Center and Los Angeles Streets has been sold to Geo. S. Patton of Los Angeles for $2000. Rumor credits the purchaser with an intention to erect one or more fine brick buildings upon the lot.
The dwelling house of Dr. Burr of El Monte was destroyed by fire last week, together with all the furniture. There was no insurance, so the Doctor's neighbors made up a purse of $300 and tendered it to him, but he declined it, saying that he was young and strong enough to stand the loss.
The Anaheim Fire Department has prepared a petition to the San Francisco Board of Underwriters, asking their aid to purchase a hose cart. The petition is endorsed by the several insurance agents, and it is to be hoped that the Underwriters will see the wisdom of granting the petition.
The Southern Pacific Railroad Company, whose taxes on their property in this county amounts to $32,000, tendered Tax Collector Cullen $20,000 and demanded a receipt in full. Cullen refused to receive the money. It is the old story of the fight between the Railroad Company and the State Board of Equalization.
The following real estate transactions occurred during the week:
Frank L Floyd and Nannie, his wife, to Wm Fromheim—E 110 acres of SE; Sec 35, T 3 S, R 10 W; $4000.
Mary S Hagerty to Henry Wehmeyer—Half acre in SW corner of vineyard lot G-7, Anaheim; $220.
Arthur H Cullen to Theo Reiser—All interest in Town lot 33, necessary interest

By one of those annoying typographical errors which sometimes happens in even such a well-regulated establishment as the Mirror office, a batch of Riverside news in the last issue of that paper was put under the head of "Anaheim items." Among the paragraphs was one in regard to the alarming prevalence of scarlet fever, which is so bad in Riverside that there is some talk of closing the schools there. As Anaheim is singularly free from that disease, we take the liberty of drawing the Mirror's attention to the error, and asking the editors to make the amend.
The following extract from the records of the Superior Court on Monday has reference to a tract of land immediately west of town. A Robinson, Trustee, vs W H Gleeson — Complaint confessed against defendant by default. Decree ordered in favor of plaintiff, unless defendant, within five days from date, pays into Court the sum of $3,500 principal, and interest due under the contract, and all costs in this action.
"Our Boys" are sparing no pains or expense to make their ball successful on next Friday evening. They expect a large attendance from adjacent towns, and will make all arrangements to have their guests pass the last night of the year in a joyful manner. And, by the way, the programme of dances, printed at the Gazette office, will be found as unique and pretty a piece of typographical skill as one could wish.
Elder J. W. Webb spoke on the subject of Temperance in the Presbyterian Church on Thursday evening. Mr. Webb, unlike the majority of speakers on that subject, is temperate in his remarks, and seeks to impress his views upon the audience by the use of logical argument instead of intemperate abuse. He is, withal, a pleasant, social gentleman, and we hope his visit to the Gazette office will be oft repeated.
The Washington Meat Market is wreathed and decorated with evergreens, and in accordance with his annual custom Mr. Leonard has some royal beef for his patrons. It gives one an appetite to visit the market and look upon the tempting array of meats so tastefully displayed. Leave your orders early for a Christmas roast.

Is the experience of Hoboken to be repeated in Anaheim? Is the fire fiend to be allowed to wither with his lurid breath the stately edifices of the Eden of the Pacific without effort to stay his destructive march? Are the brave hearts and brawny arms before which even the demon of fire quails and disappears going to remain idle while the enemy revels in his destructive work? The answers to these momentous questions are awaited with interest. The matter at issue between the town authorities and the firemen is whether, in consideration of the payment by the Trustees of certain bills incurred by the fire department, the firemen will convey to the said Trustees all their right to the truck, hose and other paraphernalia. The firemen have so far refused to make the transfer, but it is to be hoped that the breach will be speedily healed.
Coal.
The Black Star Coal Company is now prepared to furnish first-class coal in any quantities to suit. All orders left at the office of P. Davis & Bro. will be promptly attended to.
Wm. A. WITTE, Agent.

DON'T GET THE BLUES.
The Consolation Offered by the San Diego "Sun."
The rainfall up to the present time in this county has not been very great, nor even up to the average in a good year. This fact to many would seem to be the forerunner of that much-to-be-dreaded event, a dry season. The most hopeful heart cannot fail to be oppressed by some grave apprehension, and though we are not given to painting the picture in too gaudy colors, yet we firmly believe that there are no grounds for thinking that the coming season will not be one of great prosperity for our people and community. California is a State of wonderful weather. One of the peculiarities of the latter is to go the opposite of all expectancy. The general state of public opinion here just now is that for some time to come nothing but blue skies will meet the gaze of him who looks daily into the heavens. But in the past people have often found that too much reliance cannot be placed in appearances. The most coquettish thing that we have to deal with is the weather. One day it will promise one thing and the next quite another. The best way is to let Dame Nature arrange matters as she pleases, but in this connection we feel an irresistible desire of impressing upon our readers the old word of cheer, so often resorted to in times of despondency, "Don't get the blues." The best seasons ever experienced by California have been when rain has fallen during the holidays. That of the other day has shown us that there is water in the skies, and it would be a cruel warden indeed who would not unlock the heavenly gates.

Every article of furniture in the house is perfectly new, and the rooms are furnished comfortably and with taste. Rooms, en suite or single, can be had on reasonable terms.
It will be the proprietor's aim to make the cuisine all that the most appetious could desire, and everything which can be had in the market will be found upon the table.
A bar stocked with the parent native and imported wines and brandies, and cigars, is attached to the house.
