Boston, February 18. — The California Southern Railroad will issue a circular inviting subscriptions to the new stock and bonds. The road is organized, the prospectus says, for the purpose of building a standard-gauge railroad and telegraph line from San Diego, connecting with the Atlantic and Pacific in California. The construction of this line will enable San Diego to at once assume the position for which it possesses natural advantages—that of the Pacific ocean terminus for a southern system of transcontinental roads, affording a route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans some 400 miles shorter than by way of San Francisco. To secure the construction of this road the citizens of San Diego have donated to the company a land subsidy valued at $10,000, including two tracts of land for terminal facilities, one of 200 acres. At the hour of 10 o'clock in that of the Pacific ocean terminus for a southern system of transcontinental roads, affording a route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans some 400 miles shorter than by way of San Francisco. To secure the construction of this road the citizens of San Diego have donated to the company a land subsidy valued at $10,000, including two tracts of land for terminal facilities, one of 200 acres and one of 60 acres, at different portions of the harbor and comprising the best commercial water front on the bay. The donations also include a large number of city blocks and lots and half the National ranch, consisting of about 10,000 acres, located directly upon the bay and valued at $50 an acre. The San Diego Land and Town Company has been formed with a capital stock of $1,500,000, divided into 15,000 shares of the par value of $100 each.
