WEEKLY GAZETTE SATURDAY NOVEMBER 13, 1890 The Gazette goes to press every Friday after noon and is delivered to subscribers on the following morning. All communications must reach this office on Thursday night at latent, in order to insure publication on the day following. Advertisements received up to noon on Fridays. ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH. Services every Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. All are invited to attend Sunday School at 10 o'clock. Kleinigkeiten. R. J. Pittman, a former resident of Los Angeles, died in Florida on October 22d. The San Diego News says that hay is selling in that county for $12 per ton loose and $15 baled. Goodman & Rimpan call attention to a long list of articles which can be found on their well-filled shelves. They sell these goods cheaper than ever. The Cajon Irrigation Company has filed a petition in insolvency. The debts of the Company amount to about $5,000. Mr. Browning has been appointed Receiver. Next Thursday is "Opening Day" at the Anaheim Millinery Store. All ladies are invited to inspect the array of pretty things which will be displayed on that occasion. Mr. Fritz Reuter informs us that the Odd-Fellows of Santa Ana propose to give a ball on Christmas at which they expect a large attendance from Anaheim. Angel Corona, arrested for participation in the robbery of Crowder's store in Orange last March, had a preliminary examination before Justice Fisher of Los Angeles, and was held for trial. Percy Wiggins, of Monte Vista, was thrown from his wagon on the night of election day, and, becoming entangled in some manner, was dragged a considerable distance, suffering serious and perhaps fatal injuries. Mr. Thos. Dunn heard some coyotes in his vineyard the other night, and, discharging his gun in the direction of the noise, The Monarch. Evey have already seeded one hundred acres of their farm with wheat and expect to have an additional 120 acres seeded before the winter rains begin. They believe this to be the proper course to purse with Odessa wheat, in the light of their experience. The farmers to the north-east of Anaheim intend to flood their lands with river water previous to seeding, thus making the crop absolutely certain. The zephyr which cavorted around Santa Ana during Thursday night knocked the railroad company's round house into amithereens, and the locomotive housed therein was so damaged as to be rendered unserviceable. A stunning editorial on "The Glorious Climate of California," already in type, is laid on the shelf until a more appropriate season. Mr. R. Luedke will receive in a few days one of the largest and best assortments of toys ever brought to this town. Look out for advertisement next week. It has been so cold at Elizabeth Lake for some nights past that ice has formed. On two occasions lately frost has appeared at Norwalk. Rev. Win McKay, a young clergyman recently from the East, is expected to preach in the Presbyterian church to-morrow (Sunday), morning and evening. Any one desiring to rent or purchase a conveniently located cottage can be accommodated upon application to this office. Mr. A. Henry returned on Sunday last after an absence of several months in the far north on a sealing vessel. The imports at the railroad depot for the month of October amounted to 234,086 pounds and the exports to 697,682 pounds. BORN. BACKS In Anaheim, Nov. 7th, to the wife of Joseph Backs, a daughter. EMERY In Anaheim, Nov. 11th, to the wife of Rev. J.A. Emery, a daughter. MARRIED. MARQUIS KIE HABER In the Presbyterian Church, Westminster, on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 10th, 1880, by Rev John Marquis—Rev Field. Rev Robert Strong Angel Corona, arrested for participation in the robbery of Crowder's store in Orange last March, had a preliminary examination before Justice Fisher of Los Angeles, and was held for trial. Percy Wiggins, of Monte Vista, was thrown from his wagon on the night of election day, and, becoming entangled in some manner, was dragged a considerable distance, suffering serious and perhaps fatal injuries. Mr. Thos. Dunn heard some coyotes in his vineyard the other night, and, discharging his gun in the direction of the noise, killed two of the invaders. Remarkable marksmanship, considering the circumstances. The public school has been closed during the week, the teachers being in attendance at the Teachers' Institute in Los Angeles. Among the papers read at the Institute was one by Prof. Guinn entitled "Pedagogy and Pedagogues in the Olden Time." By reference to the advertisement of the Anaheim Lighter Company, it will be seen that they solicit grain for storage, and will give extremely liberal rates to those who patronize them. Mr. Hull, the agent, informs us that the always great storage capacity of the warehouses has recently been increased, so that he has plenty of space now at his disposal. The advertisement of the cantata to be given on next Wednesday evening is published to-day. The long and thorough rehearsal given to the piece insures its being performed in a thoroughly entertaining manner, and we hope the public will show their appreciation of the ladies' efforts by filling the hall on the night of the entertainment. Mr. Gennery of sugar-beet fame proposes a public meeting of all persons interested in the industry, at which he will give the reasons for the recent failure to make sugar from the sun-dried beets. He says the obstacles to success are trivial, and that he would long ago have enlightened the public in regard thereto had it not been for the solicitation of his former business associate (Nadeau) to withhold all explanations.
