Mr. Chas. Wille, the pioneer cooper of Anaheim, is turning out wine pipes at a great rate. This is the season of great demand for the cooper's craft.
Mr. H. L. Paty is engaged in hauling a large lot of grain from Downey to Anaheim Landing. It will be shipped by the Anaheim Lighter Company to San Francisco.
Lost, on last Sunday, between the Landing, Westminster and Anaheim, a lady's shawl. A liberal reward will be paid on returning the same to this office.
In the Probate Court on Saturday in the matter of the estate of P. C. McKinnie, deceased, the petition for homestead and family allowance was heard and allowed.
A mass meeting of the Farmers and Workingmen will be held in Los Angeles tomorrow night to discuss plans for future action. It is proposed to go on in perfecting the organization in this county.
The Los Angeles City Board of Education have under consideration a proposition to reduce the salaries of teachers ten per cent. from and after Oct. 1st. They will meet to-morrow to decide upon the matter.
As will be seen by the advertisement of D. & G. D. Plato they intend to retire from business, and are offering their immense stock of merchandise far below cost. The sale will last for fifteen days only. We are assured that the sale is a bone jade one.
A number of the friends of Mr. Seibert met at his residence on Thursday evening to tender him congratulations on the anniversary of his birthday. The guests were handsomely entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Seibert, and the evening was spent very pleasantly.
A break of about a hundred feet occurred on Monday last at a point known as the Horse Shoe Bend on the Cajon ditch. The disaster was caused by the water finding an opening through squirrel holes. The break will probably be repaired by Monday or Tuesday, men being now at work on it under the superintendence of Commissioner Zeyn.
We like to speak well of a good house and a jolly landlord, and so we say that travelers who have occasion to go to Anaheim will be in clover if they will stop at the Planter's Hotel, and partake of the hospitality of Ed. Dunham, its handsome and jolly proprietor.-S. F. Hotel Gazette.
We have seen a specimen of the ore taken from the second ledge uncovered at the Santiago Company's mine. It is a decided improvement over the rich specimen mentioned last week. The Company have run a tunnel along this ledge 47 feet, and the point from where the specimen is taken is fifty feet from the surface of the ground.
Nearly every week during the past nine months some unknown idiot has cut a few inches of hair from the tail of Mr. Cahen's horse. The weekly spoliation is not sufficient.

Nearly every week during the past nine months some unknown idiot has cut a few inches of hair from the tail of Mr. Cahen's horse. The weekly spoliation is not sufficient to mar the beauty of the horse, and it is incomprehensible what, the depredator wants with the hair. The only way to find a clue to the perpetrator is to substitute an able-bodied mule for the docile horse. Any attempt to dock a mule's tail would be followed by consequences disastrous to the individual so engaged.
At the meeting of the Anaheim Literary Union on last Friday night, the following officers were elected to serve for the ensuing term of three months; President, J. M. Guinn; Vice-President, Miss Ella Mitchell; Secretary, E. M. Ferguson; Editor, Miss Mary Brier. New life has been infused into the society and the meetings will be marked by a varied and carefully considered programme which will be carried out to the letter. The public are cordially invited to attend the weekly meetings at the Presbyterian Church.
The two masked villains who attacked Gen. Bouton and Mr. Collins near San Gorgonio Station, have been definitely heard from. It was reported by Indians living between the Cahnilla Valley and Warner's ranch, that two days after the attempted assassination young Tripp and Covington came to their cabins and remained with them some three or four days. One was shot through the side of the face, the ball striking the check bone; the other was shot through the thigh and hip. The Indians reported that the wounded men were very uneasy and much afraid of being captured, and as soon as it was possible for them to move, they started away with the intention of trying to reach Utah Territory.

The Societas Fraternia, or rather Schlesinger, is made the subject of attack by the Los Angeles Commercial. According to that paper, the Doctor is a debtor in a considerable amount to a number of merchants in Los Angeles, and he has refused point blank to pay any of them. It further says: "We understand that a systematic effort is on foot to root out the society." Leading spiritualists here say that it is a reproach to their religion and a putrid ulcer on the social system of Anaheim, and wonder that it has thus long prospered, and predict the same fall to it that befel a former society which the doctor started near Saratoga with several young girls as a beginner, himself being the only apostle, prophet and high priest. According to the doctor's own statements, he was imprisoned in Ludlow street jail, for 21 months, for carrying into execution some of his damnable doctrines, but he thinks he will have a free and undisturbed career in California. Some parties regard the doctor as a maniac, while others think him a systematic villain. The doctor is the apostle of the raw vegetarian diet, and uses nothing that fire tonchea. The only exception in his otherwise rigid regimen is the free and abundant use of raw oysters, which we suppose is a necessary adjunct to his peculiar style of living. The doctor firmly believes that the world will be destroyed in 1882, and that himself and his followers (Nebuchadnezzarites) will be about the only ones that will escape. Then he is, like Adam and Noah, to people the earth on a new system. Free love is to be the new order, and himselfjthe father and archetypal representative of free love in all its hideousness."

Green's August Flower.
It is natural for people suffering with dyspepsia and liver complaint, or any derangement of the digestive organs, such as sour stomach, sick headache, habitual costiveness, paipitation of the heart, heart burn, water brash, gnawing and burning pains in the pit of the stomach, yellow skin, coated tongue, and disagreeable taste in the mouth, coming up of food after eating, low spirits, etc., to put off from day to day buying an article that they know has cured their neighbor, friend or relative, yet they have no faith in it until it is too late. But if you will go to your druggist, W. M. Higgins, and get a bottle of Green's August Flower, your immediate cure is as certain as you live. Sample bottles of this medicine may be obtained for ten cents to try its superior virtue. Regular size, 75 cents. Try it; two doses will relieve any case.
They all Take it.
When the system is run down to that extent that you pass sleepless nights, are nervous and irritable, have gloomy forebodings, sour stomach, sick headache and coated tongue, do not enroll yourself as high private in the rear rank, under General Debility, but cheer up and try White's Prairie Flower, the Great Liver Panacea, now for sale in every city on the Continent. No medicine ever compounded is half its equal for the cure of Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint. It has a specific power over the liver and by curing the liver, dyspepsia and all other diseases arising from it, vanish as if by magic. Sample bottles are sold at the small price of 25 cents that will convince you of its merits. Large size bottles 75 cents, for sale by Ferguson & Lake, Anaheim.
The delicate membrane which envelops the lungs and lines the air passages, is exceedingly sensitive, and a slight irritation of it increases and spreads very rapidly. Remembering this, use, if you are attacked by a cough or cold, that incomparable pulmonic and preventative of consumption, Dr. Hall's Balsam FOR THE LENGHS, which invariably gives speedy relief and ultimately effects a complete cure in all cases where the breathing organs are affected. Use it in time and prevent serious bronchial trouble. Sold by all druggists.

READ THE FOLLOWING:
Dr. D. D. Wright, of Clocknati, sends us the subjoined professional endorsement. "I have prescribed Hall's Balsam in a large number of cases, and always with success." He adds that "In one case a patient with every appearance of confirmed consumption, was restored to his usual health soon after commencing to take the Balsam."
John Kuhn, of Ladavette, Ind., writes: "One year ago I was to all appearances in the last stages of consumption, and got no low our doctor said I could not live 24 hours." Mr. Kuhn further states that "after taking nine bottles of Hall's Balsam he is now in perfect health, having used no other medicine."
The above brief extracts are taken from a MASS OF EVIDENCE which has been accumulating during a period of 20 years, proving the efficacy of Hall's Balsam in all cases where the breathing organs are affected, and showing the estimation in which the remedy is held by the public and the medial profession. Sold by all dru-gists. Prices: $1 per bottle.
