Messrs. A. Guy Smith & Co. are the general agents for the sale of the potato starch made by H. H. Harmon. Those who use this starch once will prefer it to any other.
The law requiring saloons to be closed on election day was rigged enforced in Los Angeles. Two arrests were made for non-compliance with the law.
At a baile in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, Luis Mendebles was shot by Billy Patterson. The wound is thought to be fatal. Patterson is in jail.
It will be seen by the apportionment of school moneys that Anaheim comes next to Los Angeles in the number of teachers employed. It is the only district in the county which gives employment to four teachers.
Two hundred and fifty thousand ballots were printed at the Los Angeles printing offices for last Wednesday's election. Fifteen thousand ballots were printed at the GAZETTE Job Office for use in this Supervisorial district alone.
The time allowed by law in which to take an appeal in the Bolsas land case expired on last Saturday, and we have no advices that any application was made for a further stay of proceedings. We understand that several of the settlers have made application to the Company to purchase the tracts upon which they h.v. been living.
Mr. J. C. Hill, of Centralia, has sent "to Washington Territory for a small quantity of wheat of the variety known as Blue Steam. It is extensively grown in that territory, and does not rust under ordinary conditions. The berry resembles the Scotch Fife variety very closely, and the stalk is stiff and strong, which prevents it from lodging.
Wine-making has already begun at San Gabriel, and it is said that some of the growers have gone back to the revolting process of "stamping out" the juice instead of using the grape press. Such a proceeding is altogether behind the age, and people will be loth to partake of wine which they think has been made in any such manner. Here in Anaheim the grape press is exclusively used.
Arizona, which has been of late the Mecca of so many from this county, is not all that the immigrants' fancy painted it. Nine out of every ten of the people who go to that territory, hoping to better their condition, find themselves disappointed. Apopos, a Los Angeles paper says: "From one of the Los Angeles colony in Tucson, recently returned, we learn that our fellow townsmen have been in rather a bad way out there—no work and no chance to get any. Our informant was very thankful to return safely."
Mr. Tim Booge came down from Santiago Canyon a few days ago, bringing with him cheering news and rich samples of ore from the mine in which Messrs. Pellegrin, Darling, Gray and Boege are interested. For several months past a number of men have been at work running tunnels on the claim, and a few times they were rewarded by striking a
Mr. Tim Booge came down from Santiago Canyon a few days ago, bringing with him cheering news and rich samples of ore from the mine in which Messra. Pellegrin, Darling, Gray and Boege are interested. For several months past a number of men have been at work running tunnels on the claim, and a few days ago they were rewarded by striking a well defined ledge of galena ore, which is unmistakably rich. The country all about the mine has been taken up lately by miners who feel elated over the developments made by the Santiago Mining Co. Mr. Boege has given us a piece of the ore, which can be seen at this office. It is the intention of the company to continue developing their mine unremittingly, and we hope soon to have cheering news to communicate.
It may be remembered that, a short time since, a young man and woman, accompanied by a Justice of the Peace, went out in a skiff, a little distance from Newport, and there and then the said Justice united the young man and woman in marriage. It was thought they were three nautical miles from the coast, and consequently without the limits of the State. But they were not, and if they had been should have remembered that a Justice's jurisdiction cannot extend outside the State. The girl was under age, and the mother being opposed to the marriage, no license could be procured. Shortly after the parties arrived on shore, the mother of the girl came here and awore out warrants for the arrest of Judge Rushing and her son-in-law, charging the latter with burglary and robbery, in entering her house and carrying away a trunk. The trial was had here this week, before Judge Williams, and resulted in the holding of Judge Rushing in $500, to appear before the next grand jury, to answer to the charge of solemnizing a marriage in violation of law. The son-in-law was discharged, there evidently having been no intent to do wrong, his wife having told him the trunk and contents were hers.—Downey Courier,
The assessment due on shares of the Anaheim Water Company must be paid on or before Thursday next, as the delinquent list will be advertised on the Saturday following.

How it is Done.
The first object in life with the American people is to "get rich;" the second, how to regain good health. The first can be obtained by energy, honesty and saving; the second (good health), by using Glenn's August Flower. Should you be a despondent sufferer from any of the effects of dyspepsia, liver complaint, indigestion, etc., such as sick head ache, palpitation of the heart, sour stomach, habitual costiveness, diarrhea of the head, nervous prostration, low spirits, etc., you need not suffer another day. Two doses of August Flower will relieve you at once. Sample bottles, ten cents; regular size, 75 cents. Positively sold by all first-class druggists in the U.S.
The delicate membrane which envelops the lungs and lines the air passages, is exceedingly sensitive, and a slight irritation of it increases and spreads very rapidly. Remembering this, use, if you are attacked by a cough or cold, that incomparable pulmonic and preventative of consumption, Dr. HALL'S BAISAM FOR THE LUNGS, which invariably gives speedy relief and ultimately affects a complete cure in all cases where the breathing organs are affected. Use it in time and prevent serious bronchial trouble. Sold by all druggists.

Consumption
Is not an incurable malady. It is only necessary to have the right remedy, and Hall's Malam is that remedy.
Don't despair of relief, for this benign specific may cure you, even though professional aid falls.
READ THE FOLLOWING:
Dr. D. D Wright, of Cloconnatt, sends us the subjoined professional endorsement. "I have prescribed Hall's balsam in a large number of cases, and always with success." He adds that "In one case a patient with every appearance of confirmed consumption, was restored to his usual health soon after commencing to take the Balsam."
John Kuhn, of Lafayette, Ind., writes: "One year ago I was to all appearances in the last stages of consumption, and got so low our doctor said I could not live 24 hours." Mr. Kuhn further states that "after taking nine bottles of Hall's balsam he is now in perfect health, having used no other medicine."
The above brief extracts are taken from a MASS OF EVIDENCE which has been accumulating during a period of 20 years, proving the efficacy of Hall's balsam in all cases where the breathing organs are affected, and showing the estimation in which the remedy is held by the public and the medical profession. Sold by all dru-gists. Price: $1 per bottle.
