Jacinto, July 2d.
To C.T.Eyland, W.W.Cape and A.J.Bryant: Your telegram, informing me of the distinguished honor of the nomination by the Democratic State Convention for the office of Governor, has just been received. I have at this time not read your platform, but having been a lifelong Democrat, I think I may trust a Democratic Convention in that particular. I accept the honor tendered me without fear of meeting anything therein objectionable or imminent to the welfare of the State. It is well understood that I was an ardent supporter of the new Constitution, and my first and great aim, if elected, shall be to see that its provisions are carried into execution in good faith, in letter and in spirit.
For the rest, I can only say that my administration under the Constitution will be Democratic.

Col. W.S.Dr... and family leave for San Francisco on Monday. We hope the vicissitudes of fortune will waft the Colonel Anaheimwards again in the near future.
Mr. Cassidy is a rising young man. It was found necessary to put new halyards on the hotel flag staff the other day, and he proved the man for the occasion.
The vineyards of Los Angeles are suffering so much from the inroads of bees, that the vintners have petitioned the Council to order that all bee stands be removed from within the city limits.
The Grand Jury convenes on the 7th inst., and the Term Trial Jury on the 21st. Deputy Sheriff Barham has subpoenas for the following Grand Jurors: G.H.Bailey,M.A.Mendelson and Theo.Rimpan,Anaheim;J.M.Capman,Fountain Valley. Also for the following term trial jurors: G.R.Hinde and J.Bennerscheidt,Anaheim.
Messrs.Ballard & Hall, the well-known commission merchants of San Francisco, have suspended payment. A statement of their affairs will be made in a week or ten days.

A German paper says that in Erzgeberg, Saxony, where the cold water system is carried out in large driaries, an apparently effectual plan has been hit upon to prevent the milk trout "turning" suddenly in tempestuous weather. Aathin iron wire chain is passed through the milk pans, the ends of which are kept constantly in cold water. Dr Fleischmann, of Baden, testifies to the practicability of this method, for he observes that authorities on the subject maintain that milk is not less sensitive to the electricity of the air than to the temperature that surrounds it more immediately. The fact that milk kept in enamelled or tinned vessels is less liable to turn-sour in hot weather speaks well for this new theory.

DIRECTORS,
H.MABURY, E.F.SPENCE,
The Grand Jury convenes on the 7th inst., and the Term Trial Jury on the 21st. Deputy Sheriff Barham has subpoenaed for the following Grand Jurors: G. H. Bailey, M. A. Mendelson and Theo. Rimpau, Anaheim; J. M. Chapman, Fountain Valley. Also for the following term trial jurors: G. R. Hinde and J. Bennerscheidt, Anaheim.
Messrs. Ballard & Hall, the well-known commission merchants of San Francisco, have suspended payment. A statement of their affairs will be made in a week or ten days. It is probable that many of the wool growers of this county will suffer by the suspension. Mr. Chas. Wagner, of Anaheim, was unfortunate enough to be a patron of the firm, and their indebtedness to him is about $2,600.
While a couple of young ladies were exploring a cecalyptus grove near Anaheim the other day, the strong odor of the trees affected them in a very peculiar way. They became giddy and for a time had no control over themselves—the odor, in fact, acting upon them much the same as if they had consumed a quantity of strong liquor. It is the first time we have known of such an effect being produced by these trees.
Although a large delegation of the Anaheim Fire Company went to Los Angeles yesterday, and a still-larger number of young people disported themselves by the sad sea waves at Anaheim Landing, there was enough people left to make the Tivoli Gardens present a lively appearance yesterday afternoon. The attendance, indeed, exceeded the most sanguine expectations of those under whose auspices the celebration was given, and the afternoon was passed as pleasantly as one could wish. The literary exercises at the pavilion comprised the reading of the Declaration of Independence by Mr John Fischer, and an oration by W. F. Heathman Esq.
It was our misfortune to be absent when Mr. Heathman spoke, but his effort was described to us as being an oratorical treat, the subject matter being in perfect taste and the delivery being impressive and eloquent. The members of the band desire us to convey their cordial thanks to Mr. Heathman for his courtesy in delivering the oration. Dancing and games were indulged in, and the festivities did not end until a late hour.

HALL’S BALSAM
IS THE LEADING SPECIFIC FOR CONSUMPTION.
It soothes and heals the membrane of the lungs, inflamed and poisoned by the disease, and remedies the night sweats and tightness across the chest, which accompany it.
Consumption
Is not an incurable malady. It is only necessary to have the right remedy, and HALL’S BALSAM is that remedy.
Don’t despair of relief, for this benign specific may cure you, even though professional aid fails.
READ THE FOLLOWING:
Dr. D. D. Wright, of Cincinnati, sends us the subjoined professional endorsement. "I have prescribed Hall’s Balsam in a large number of cases, and always with success." He says that "in one case a patient with every appearance of confirmed consumption, was restored to his usual health soon after commencing to take the Balsam."
John Kuhn, of Lafayette, Ind., writes: "One year ago I was to all appearances in the last stages of consumption, and got so low our doctor said I could not live 24 hours." Mr. Kuhn further states that "after taking nine bottles of Hall’s Balsam he is now in perfect health, having used no other medicine."
The above brief extracts are taken from a MASS OF EVIDENCE which has been accumulating during a period of 29 years, proving the efficacy of Hall’s balsam in all cases where the breathing organs are affected and showing the estimation in which the remedy is held by the public and the medical profession. Sold by all drug-gists. Price, $1 per bottle.
