New York, June 40.-The fifteenth day has a communication from Alexander Del Mar, warning Eastern man against the boonzanzamines and quartz mining generally. He says the Comstock Lode is honey-combed and used up. California's current product of fifteen millions gold is derived chiefly from hydraulic mines, usually close corporations, which have obtained the privilege of washing hills into valleys, and for the sake of one cent's worth of gold in a cubic yard of earth, are choking its rivers, filling up its single harbor, and entirely ruining its agricultural lands.
New York, June 14.-Mr. Kipps left a bundle in Ling's Chinese laundry yesterday to be washed. The bundle contained dead rats. Justice Walsh fined Kipps $15, saying a Chineseman is not to be made a butt for every tool to aim his wit at.
Edward Alexander Guy of Cincinnati was in 1862 possessor of $40,000. He was a well educated, intelligent young man, and particularly pious. Convinced that the scriptural text, "Sell all that ye have and give alms," was a binding injunction, he began to dispose of his property and give the money to the poor. He bestowed the gifts slowly and carefully, and it was not until 1870 that his last dollar was gone. He is now a religious missionary in Cincinnati, penniless, but completely absorbed in his work.

Extra copies of the Weekly Gazette,
issued to-day, for sale at this office.
It now appears that the report that Don Juan Forster's ranch had been attached is without foundation. Some cattle on the rancho, belonging to another man, were attached, which event probably misled the San Diego News.
Messrs. Goodman & Rimpau announce this morning that they will sell their fine stock for the next thirty days at a great reduction. The announcement is made in good faith, and they intend to abide by it. The superiority and excellence of their stock is well known, and their large amount of dry goods, clothing, etc. is well worth an inspection.
Since the commencement of the shipping season, and up to the present time, eighty-two car loads of hogs have been shipped out of this valley by rail, the most of them going to the San Francisco market. These hogs will average eighty to the car, a total of 6,560 head. The amount paid for these porkers was about thirty-five thousand dol-

Constable Wartenberg informs us that the horse he had such difficulty in disposing of was taken by a young man in Santa Ana. A couple of days after, the young man journeyed all the way to Anaheim, and with tears in his eyes, implored the officer to take back his gift. But the officer elevated his digit to his nasal protuberance and sighed "not much."
To Mr. C. H. Sweetman, of Los Angeles, we are indebted for valuable information. It seems that the furnace which Messrs. Morgan & Mills have purchased is the invention of Mr. Sweetman, and not, as stated in our article last Wednesday, the Robertson furnace. In fact, there is no such thing, the process of reducing the ore by the use of chemicals constituting Mr. Robertson's invention. The furnace will not be ready for delivery in Silverado until next week, owing to an unforeseen delay. Mr. Sweetman further informed us that yesterday he assayed some specimens from the foot-walls of the Mountain Lodge, and got $20 gold and $10 silver to the tom. This result is a surprise, and a most agreeable one, to the owners of the mine, who have herefore not suspected that the wall rock contained any of the precious metals. Mr. Morgan says the wall is fifty feet wide, and if it all "pans out" like the specimens yesterday subjected to assay, they have what is known in California parlance as "a big thing."
At a shooting match in Sacramento last week, bats were used instead of pigeons, and the result was so satisfactory that bats will be used almost exclusively hereafter.

FOR THE LUNGS
ERADICATES
Coughs, Colds, Pneumonia, Bronchitis,
Asthma, Croup, Whooping Cough,
And all Diseases of the Breathing Organs.
HALL’S BALSAM
IS THE LEADING SPECIFIC FOR CONSUMption.
It soothes and heals the membrane of the lungs, inflamed and poisoned by the disease, and remedies the night sweats and tightness across the chest, which accompany it.
Consumption
Is not an incurable malady. It is only necessary to have the right remedy, and HALL’S BALSAM is that remedy.
Don't despair of relief, for this benign specific may cure you, even though professional aid fails.
READ THE FOLLOWING:
Dr. D. D Wright, of Cincinnati, sends us the subjoined professional endorsement. "I have prescribed Hall’s Balsam in a large number of cases, and always with success." He adds that "in one case a patient with every appearance of confirmed consumption, was restored to his usual health soon after commencing to take the Balsam."
John Kuhn, of Lafayette, Ind., writes: "One year ago I was to all appearances in the last stages of consumption, and got so low our doctor said I could not live 24 hours." Mr. Kuhn further states that "after taking nine bottles of Hall’s Balsam he is now in perfect health, having used no other medicine."
The above brief extracts are taken from a
MASS OF EVIDENCE
which has been accumulating during a period of 29
years, proving the efficacy of Hall’s Balsam in all cases
where the breathing organs are affected, and showing
the estimation in which the remedy is held by the public and the medical profession. Sold by all druggists. Price $1 per bottle.
