The Board of Town Trustees met in regular session yesterday. Warrants were ordered drawn as follow: W. Fesenfeld, $1 50; E. P. Cahill, $6 25; L. Wartenberg, $5. The following bills were referred to Finance Committee: A. Guy Smith & Co., $189 17; L. Draween, $5; J. J. Dyer, $9 30; A. Guy Smith & Co., $11 22; L. E. Lewis, $3 50. It was ordered that the licenses for three quarters, (924) road and poll tax, ($4) and a warrant for $2 be drawn in favor of John Fischer in full payment for services as Assessor. A communication from J. Bennerscheidt, asking the town to purchase the gas pipe, was laid on the table. On motion the proposition of W. Fesenfeld to furnish a stationary upright engine, standard and everything complete, for $650, was accepted. The Tax Collector was given until to-morrow to make a final settlement. Mr. Boege was authorized to make necessary repairs on Centre street. Mr. Fesenfeld was authorized to put a 4-inch discharge valve in the tank. H. Boege was awarded the contract to paint the tank, two coats, for $25.
A splendid rain fell yesterday, and it must have done an incalculable amount of good. There are hundreds of barley fields which will now mature a crop, that a week ago were consider totally valueless. The wheat crop also will mature, and altogether the prospects are much brighter than any one had reason to expect. We are indebted to Mr. Bold for the following record of rainfall: April 1st, seven-hundreths; 2nd, nineteen-hundreths; 4th, twenty-six-hundreths; total, fifty-two-hundreths. The barometer last evening was quite low—28.90.
The Episcopal Social at the residence of Mr. Cowan on Thursday evening was largely attended. The young people greatly enjoyed the moonlight ride on the hay in a four-horse wagon. Mr. and Mrs. Cowan threw open their large house in a very hospitable manner, and even the delicious ice-cream, which was a special feature of the evening, did not freeze out the enjoyment. The next one will be held at the residence of Mr. W. A. Morrison.

Letter from Mr.Shorb.
The following is in response to a request of Mr.Dreyfus asking Mr.Shorb to name the day on which he proposed to deliver an address against the adoption of the new Constitution:
"San Marino," April 23, 1879.
Friend Dreyfus: Your favor of yesterday is received.I cannot tell when I can pay Anaheim the promised visit,但I will do so as soon as I can.
I still believe in the second sober-thought of the farmer not to allow Kearney or his class to mislead them into doing an injury to the State and themselves。While the hood-lum element of San Francisco might be induced to go wrong,I can not conceive how the honest farmer will follow suit.My interests are the same as the smaller farmer, only owing more money than most of them, and will therefore be more injured by the passage of the new Constitution.
With kindest regards,I remain your friend,fathfully,J.D.BARTH SHORB.
The Experience of a Workingman.
[San Francisco Bulletin]
I am a carpenter by trade, and work by the day,and occasionally take the contract for a small building.A few years ago I was able to buy a building lot,and pay for it.I borrowed the money,$3,000,to build a home and gave the mortgage to a private party, who now holds it.Of this $3,000,besides supporting a large family,I have been able with great economy to pay off, besides the interest and taxes,in two separate years,$500 each year, leaving now$2,000 due upon the mortgage. The mortgage comes due next month.I had been promised a renewal of the mortgage from the same party at a less rate of interest,namely,8 instead of 9 per cent which I had been paying If well enough had been left alone.I am confident in a few years I would have had my homestead all my own.Now the party utterly refuses to renew upon any terms, being scared by the new Constitution. All the savings banks reason the same way;wait till the matter is decided,但if the Constitution is adopted, what then?Well,we don't know,但at any rate you will have to pay the interest, and in some way—we don't know yet—the taxes,if any, upon the mortgage also. Now I cannot wait without considerable loss at best,as before the vote is taken proceedings in foreclosure will have been commenced, and I will have to pay the costs. As I am situated willing to pay taxes upon the mortgage
It is said that Gen. Volney E. Howard will stump the county in favor of the new Constitution.
John Davis, whose attempt at suicide is noted by our Westminster correspondent, is said to be now out of danger and will recover.
Wells, Fargo & Co. have issued a new tariff making sweeping reductions in their rates. They have made the rates very low on small packages.
A shipment of forty thousand orange and lemonwood canes was made from the depot Thursday. The canes were cut by one of our nurserymen on an order from an Eastern dealer. Express,
Rev. Mr. Rynerson, of Santa Barbara, while on his way to Anaheim to attend the meeting of the Presbytery, was thrown from his buggy and severely injured. He had to remain at Los Angeles to recuperate.
We understand that the wire worm is attacking and destroying some localities. This pest generally works more or less mischief every year. On this account some farmers delay planting as long as possible. Downey Courier.
Ten members of the Anahaim Fire Department attended the banquet of the 38's in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Mr. Roques informs us that it was grand beyond all powers of description, which we are prepared to believe after a glance at the menu. The banquet is said to have cost the Company $1100.
A drunken man named Valenzuela, while plowing yesterday on a ranch in the southern part of the city, becoming enraged at his home, a valuable one, struck it on the head with such brutal violence as to tear one of the animal's eyes completely from its socket, permanently injuring the unfortunate animal. Commercial.
The Plantar' Hotel, under the new regime, is now fairly open to the public. The thorough cleaning and renovation which it has undergone makes it looks like a new house. New carpets have been laid in every room, and furniture has been added wherever needed. In short, it is a model hotel, and every department has the close supervision of Mr. Ed. Dunham, the proprietor. May his enterprise be rewarded by an abundance of patronage.

Hall's BALSAM
FOR THE LUNGS
ERADICATES
Coughs, Colds, Pneumonia, Bronchitis,
Asthma, Croup, Whooping Cough,
And all Diseases of the Breathing Organs.
HALL'S BALSAM
IS THE LEADING SPECIFIC FOR CONSUMPTION.
It soothes and heals the membrane of the lungs, inflamed and poisoned by the disease, and remedies the night sweats and tightness across the chest, which accompany it.
Consumption
Is not an incurable malady. It is only necessary to have the right remedy, and HALL's BALSAM is that remedy.
Don't despair of relief, for this benign specific may cure you, even though professional aid falls.
READ THE FOLLOWING:
Dr. D. D. Wright, of Cincinnati, sends us the subjoined professional endorsement. "I have prescribed Hall's BALSAM in a large number of cases, and always with abscess." He adds that "is one case a patient with every appearance of confirmed consumption, was restored to his usual health soon after commencing to take the Balsam."
John Kuhn, of Lafayette, Ind., writes: "One year ago I was to all appearances in the last stages of consumption, and got so low our doctor said I could not live 24 hours." Mr. Kuhn further states that "after taking nine bottles of Hall's Balsam be now in perfect health, having used no other medicine."
The above brief extracts are taken from a MASS OF EVIDENCE which has been accumulating during a period of 20 years, proving the efficacy of Hall's Balsam in all cases where the breathing organs are affected, and showing the estimation in which the remedy is held by the public and the medical profession. Sold by all dru-gists. Price $1 per bottle.
