S. H. Mott, President, B. F. SEIBER, Cashier. Sworn and subscribed to before me this 20th day of Nov., 1878. JAMES T. MURPHY, Bank Commissioner. Yours, with respect, JAMES T. MURPHY, Bank Commissioner. A correspondent of the San Diego Union mentions an Indian woman at El Conejo, in that county. He says: "The 'oldest inhabitant' is a little dried up woman, emaciated and withered up, resembling a mummy direct from Egypt more than a human being, but nevertheless is a human, with an immortal soul, whose future, according to the sacred book and theologians, is as interesting to the Divine Ruler of the universe as is that of President Grant. Well, this poor old creature told a lady that went to visit her, through an interpreter (as she speaks nothing but Indian), that when the Mission buildings were being erected she was a girl of eight or ten years. (Showing by her hand how high she was.) She described also the manner of bringing the timbers from the mountains. BANK OF S. H. MOTT B. F. SEIBERT DIRECT H. MABURY, B. F. SEIBERT, O. S. Ladies will be interested in reading the advertisement of Mrs. Flora Brown. The lady has a fine assortment of millinery. Ninety-two “Triumph Desks” arrived last evening. These, together with the desks now in use, will furnish the new school house very completely. It is expected that the school house will be ready for occupancy at the close of the holiday vacation. In the case of the City of Los Angeles vs. J.J.Mellus et al., the jury on Thursday evening, at about 9 o’clock, brought in a general verdict in favor of the city against defendant Mellus only, and special findings as to defendants Mellus and Thom. Mr. Cohn has a very fine lot of stationery and fancy goods displayed, and he intends to keep his store supplied with the latest novelties in that line. He also receives subscriptions for any newspaper or magazine. Attention is directed to Messrs. Goodman & Rimpau's new advertisement, in which they have attempted to name the most prominent of the articles in stock. No adequate idea of their fine stock, however, can be obtained except by a visit to their store—a visit which we advise every one to make. A Disaster. At 11 o'clock last night, as the pressman was putting the forms on the press, the local page fell to the floor. Two columns of advertisements and three columns of local matter were "pied;" and although the office force worked all night to repair the disaster, they only partially succeeded. The advertisements had to be re-set entirely, and the meagre local matter given this morning was fished out of the wreck in a dilapidated condition and patched together. This explanation, we hope, will be sufficient apology for any defects in this morning's paper. In a recent speech at an Agricultural Fair, Vice-President Wheeler said: "The fact, hard as it is, remains that we can never regain our old-time prosperity without a return to old paths. We must have soberer views of life. We cannot regain this prosperity until a far larger portion of our people become willing, through patience and manly toil in the useful and productive arts of life, to earn every dollar they receive. Our young men must learn that they cannot with impunity ignore the lower rounds of the ladder on which their fathers climbed with patient, toiling steps, and come to property and reputation with a bound. In manly occupation and manly independence alone can be laid the foundation of honorable, permanent prosperity." BANK OF ANAHEIM. Capital Stock, $100,000.00 S. H. MOTT President. B. F. ERADICATES Coughs, Colds, Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Asthma, Croup, Wheoping Cough, And all Diseases of the Breathing Organs. HALL’S BALSAM IS THE LEADING SPECIFIC FOR CONSUMPTION. It soothes and heals the membrane of the lungs, inflamed and poisoned by the disease, and remedies the night sweats and tightness across the chest, which accompany it. Consumption Is not an incurable malady. It is only necessary to have the right remedy, and HALL’S BALSAM is that remedy. Don’t despair of relief, for this benign specific may cure you, even though professional aid fails. READ THE FOLLOWING: Dr. D. D. Wright, of Cincinnati, sends us the subjoined professional endorsement. "I have prescribed Hall’s balsam in a large number of cases, and always with success." He adds that "in one case a patient with every appearance of confirmed consumption, was restored to his usual health soon after commencing to take the balsam." John Kuhn, of Lafayette, Ind., writes: "One year ago I was to all appearances in the last stages of consumption, and got so low our doctor said I could not live 24 hours." Mr. Kuhn further states that "after taking nine bottles of Hall’s balsam he is now in perfect health, having used no other medicine." The above brief extracts are taken from a MASS OF EVIDENCE which has been accumulating during a period of 29 years, proving the efficacy of Hall’s balsam in all cases where the breathing organs are affected, and showing the estimation in which the remedy is held by the public and the medical profession.
