The editor of the Santa Ana Times is bilious. He should prescribe for himself.
He accuses the Gazette of being not only unjust and untruthful, but as being guilty of a breach of bad taste. He says it is false that Anaheim capital and enterprise has developed Silverado; that it is false that Mr. Irvine has objected to the opening of a road across the San Joaquin and through Tomatoes Canyon; that the Gazette shows bad taste in sustaining him in his objections; and that these statements in the aggregate are utterly unjust. When the physician heals himself—when he gets rid of some of his superfluous bile—we will argue these propositions with him to his heart's content. If his liver had been performing its functions with healthy regularity, he would have noticed the fact, which everybody but himself noticed, that our remark in regard to sustaining Mr. Irvine in his objections to the proposed road was merely a bit of badnage, called forth by what had previously appeared in this paper on the same subject. As to our statement of fact, it is perfectly true. Mr. Irvine does object to the road, and the Times can ascertain the correctness of this statement by addressing Mr. C.E. French on the subject.
We are informed that a prominent rancho of this county has filed a caveat on a patent on an invention for gathering lodged grain, which will revolutionize harvesting operations in Southern California. The attachment consists of a platform on low wheels and with canvas sides, so arranged as to be coupled under the apron and rakes of a reaper. The rakes throw the grain on to the platform and a man forks it back out of the way of the rakes. When loaded the machine is drawn directly to the stack, the doors of the canvass box are opened at the rear, a rope is thrown over the grain and the whole machine is drawn from under the load, which is then pitched on the stack. By this apparatus much labor and time is saved, and the worst lodged grain can be gathered with less expense than the best grain can be taken up with a header, and with no waste, as the reaper cuts close to the ground. Parties who have seen them at work say that hereafter

[FROM LAST SATURDAY'S SECOND EDITION.] — Judge Athearn went to San Francisco on the excursion train yesterday.
P.A.A Clark has been commissioned a Notary Public, to reside at Silverado.
Extra copies of the Weekly Gazette, in wrappers ready for mailing, are for sale at this office.
The son of R.D.Curtis, who was hurt by falling from a horse last Saturday, is in a fair way to recover.
Thirteen tons of coal from the Black Star coal mine were brought to Anaheim yesterday for B.Dreyfus & Co.The dumps are now full, the teams now employed being unable to haul away the coal as fast as it is taken out.
We solicit the patronage of those who require anything in the job printing line.
We have hundreds of dollars invested in job printing material, and our facilities are such that we can afford to do every kind of printing at very low rates.
Mrs.Green,a colored lady, was not allowed to enter the genteel cars of the Central Railroad of New Jersey,as it was about to move toward Scranton from Wilkesbarre, but was ordered to go to the next or smoking car.Mr.Green,also colored.protested, but of no avail. He subsequently brought an action against the railroad company to recover the penalty of $500 affixed by the Pennsylvania statute as a punishment against any common carrying company from excluding a person from any of its cars on account of his or her color.Green proved his case in the court below, and recovered accordingly. The railway company appealed to the Supreme Court. On the argument of the case last week, one of the Judges of that tribunal, who probably did not sympathize with the plaintiff's case, asked General McCartney, the counsel,"what the result would have been if the company had denied the woman admittance to their genteel car on account of her odor instead of her color?"The counsel replied,"Why,in that case the company The rakes throw the grain on to the platform and a man forks it back out of the way of the rakes。When loaded the machine is drawn directly to the stack, the doors of the canvass box are opened at the rear,a rope is thrown over the grain and the whole machine is drawn from under the load, which is then pitched on the stack.By this apparatus much labor and time is saved, and the worst lodged grain can be gathered with less expense than the best grain can be taken up with a header, and with no waste,as the reaper cuts close to the ground.Parties who have seen them at work say that hereafter headers will be at a discount in this county.

The photographic parlors are now an art gallery in miniature, and are well worth visiting. Some very finely executed pictures of our citizens adorn the walls, and the faithfulness of the "counterfeit presentments" is very striking.Among those we noticed the other day were large pictures of Mr and Mrs.R.W Scott,mr and Mrs,A.G.BeebeMr.John Fischer,mr.F.EyMr.E.DunhamMr.Theo.Rimpan,mr.Addolph Rimpan,Miss Langenberger,Mrs.Lenard and others whom we can not now recollect.Every one who likes to look through an album will find a much greater pleasure in visiting the gallery and inspecting the great variety of pictures to be seen there.
The members of the Anaheim Fire Company look well in their new and handsome uniform. The uniform consists of helmet, belt and shirt. The helmet is of the regulation shape, the front piece being decorated with the figure 1,the number of the company. The initials of the owner are in white letters on each helmet. The belt is stamped "Anaheim Fire Company No.1."and the red shirt has a large figure 1,in white, sweed on the breast. The foreman's helmet has a white front piece, and the belt is also white, both being neatly ornamented and indicating the rank of the wearer. The speaking trumpet is of brass.

—United States Surveyor-General Wagner has appointed the following persons in this county United States Deputy Mineral Surveyors: J. E. Jackson, E. T. Wright, John Goldsworthy and H. J. Stephenson.
—Mr. C. C. Angle has had a shot gun stolen from his house. The gun was probably taken on Monday, although Mr. Angle did not miss it until yesterday. Whoever has it in his possession will confer a great favor by returning it.
—It is rumored in Los Angeles that the S. P. R. R. are negotiating an arrangement with Gen. Banning to lease him for a term of years the two railroad wharves—that at Santa Monica and that at Wilmington. He would, under the lease, have full control of the two termini, and be authorized to collect such toll on freight and passengers as he could legally enforce.
—Messrs. P. Davis and Bro. received a letter the other day from C. C. Sweetzer. He has a stock ranch located about sixty miles below Tucson and twenty miles from Sonora. The letter received by the Messrs. Davis had been opened by robbers, who are now plying their vocation in the Territory with wonderful vigor. The letter contained nothing of value to the highwaymen.
—The Gazette was honored last evening with a visit from the Anaheim Fire Company. We have never before had the honor of welcoming such a numerous and stalwart lot of gentlemen, and our appreciation of the honor conferred is only equaled by our mortification at not having quarters commodious enough to entertain them as we desired. May the "hraw fire laddies" live long and prosper.
A Vermont girl peeled, cooked and mashed twenty-four potatoes in seventeen minutes, and is now ready to receive offers of marriage. All applications must be endorsed; "No fooling around till next Winter."
That fountains are ornamental no one puts, but, according to a paper read by Mr. Binney before the Manchester (Eng.) Literary and Philosophical Society, they have an important sanitary utility. He contends that the atmosphere of towns may be sensibly ozoned and improved in quality by their action. He says: "A water-fountain may be regarded as a hydro-electric machine, the friction of the water issuing through the jets developing electric action, materially assisted by the conversion of the spray into aqueous vapor. I would suggest that the fact should be prominently brought before municipal bodies to erect fountains in all available places in large cities as sanitary agents. They might prove highly beneficial in crowded localities." The subject of ozone, in its various phases, is engaging the attention of scientific inquirers.
Mr. T. J. Wood had an apple baked two-thirds through by the sun as it hung on the tree. This was on Tuesday. With proper care and the construction of hot houses we do not despair of being able to raise baked and dried apples, pears, etc., and it may not be too much to expect that we shall yet see here trees bearing canned peaches, apricots, etc. By a system of cross budding possibly very fair cove oysters and corned beef might be grown. —Riverside Press.
“What are you setting that child on the quarto dictionary for?” said Mrs. D, as the pastor arranged his little boy at the breakfast table. “I am,” replied he, “fixing the basis of a sound Education.” “Yes,” said she, “but you are beginning at the wrong end.”
