The International Boat Race.
London, July 5th.—The Columbias, having won the only boat race ever gained by an American crew in England, are the heroes of Henley. The superb forms they have shown the past two days surprised even their best friends. At the start for the final heat of the Visitors' Challenge Cup to-day, the Columbia crew dipped oars first and took the lead.rowing a tremendous stroke. At Pawley Court boat house they were a length ahead of the Hertford boat. Nearing Remenham, the Hertfords, being under instructions from shore, spurted and reduced the Columbia's lead to half a length, but opposite Remenham farm house the Columbias increased their stroke, again recovered their position, and were able to take the Hertford's water the same as the day before, notwithstanding the Hertford's frantic efforts to prevent it. Hertford's only hope now was to catch the Columbia boat by touching it, and thus claim a tour. Columbia's boat being out of its own water, Goodwin perceived the danger and called on the men for a further spurt, and they answered with a tremendous burst of speed, which sent them ahead fully two lengths and a half. The speed was so great that it completely exhausted the Hertfords, whose bow dropped his ear almost fainting. The others were also completely "pumped," and the boat, not being steered, ran ashore. Columbia continued, finishing the course amidst ringing cheers from the shore, in eight minutes and four seconds.
In the final race for the Steward's cup there was some delay caused by the Shoewae-camette's eagerness to get away, but when the signal was given, the London Rowing Club, who got off well, made for the Berks shore, getting into still water, the wind today being favorable for boats on the Berks side. The Shoes went straight down the middle, getting the advantage of the first one hundred yards and leading the London's half a length. The latter crew rowed without fault and at Fawley Court by a spurt led the

[FROM LAST SATURDAY'S SECOND EDITION.]—The celebration of the Fourth in Los Angeles seems to have been a very tane affair when compared with that in Anaheim.
In a private letter from New York City received by one of our most prominent young lawyers, the writer, speaking of the Indian war, asks if we had been troubled in the vicinity of Los Angeles, and if it is safe between here and San Francisco. New Yorkers think this place little better than a howling wilderness. Their ignorance is most pitiful.
The Board of Town Trustees held their regular meeting yesterday. A bridge was ordered to be built at the railroad crossing near West Street. An ordinance was introduced requiring all non-residents of Anaheim, who take orders for and deliver goods within the town limits, to pay the same license as is required of peddlers. The ordinance will amidst ringing cheers from the shore, in eight minutes and four seconds.
The latter crew rowed without fant and at Fawley Court by a spurt led the Shoes by a quarter of a length. This challenged the Shoe's, who had been rowing forty-four strokes, and they increased the number to forty-eight. Both crews approached Poplar Point at a terrific rate on almost even terms. Suddenly the London's shot ahead in a mysterious manner, and it was soon seen that something was the matter in the Shoe's boat, but no one was prepared to see the latter crew stop short, apparently used up. After pausing a few seconds the Shoe's went on slowly, Moses Nadeau and Dewitt pulling the boat alone. Joseph Nadeau was completely doubled up.
The cause of their defeat was soon explained. Nadeau had been seized with a violent diarrhoea this morning, and after a practice pull his condition became worse, but he pluckily refused to listen to a withdrawal from the race. At the conclusion of the race the other three men came in not at all annoyed by their terrible struggle. What there was of the race was the hardest ever rowed at Henley. The London's time was eight minutes and 28 seconds. The Shoe's at first accepted their defeat with nonchalance, but once at their quarters they fairly cried at their bitter disappointment. They will probably go to London on Tuesday, and sail on the Utopia for home July 17th. Geo.W Lee, of Newark, contemplates remaining to compete at the Metropolitan regatta for the sculls now held by Playford.
The Bradon (Miss.) Republican says that lands can be purchased in that State for 10 cents an acre, while whisky costs 15 cents a drink; and yet there are people that are landless who spend $1 a day for whisky.

An ordinance was introduced requiring all non-residents of Anaheim, who take orders for and deliver goods within the town limits, to pay the same license as is required of peddlers. The ordinance will come up for passage at the next meeting. Several bills were referred to the Finance Committee. The assessment list was handed in by the Assessor. The Clerk has until the third Monday of July in which to foot up the list. The Trustees will immediately after sit as a Board of Equalization. We are indebted to Trustee Cohen for the proceedings of the Council.

Mr. D. K. Williams will commence business on Monday in Dean's barber shop, he having leased the same. He addresses a very pertinent card to the public to which we call the attention of our readers.
Mr. A. W. Steinhart, administrator of the estate of S. Goldstein, gives notice of a public sale of the effects of the deceased.
A Probate Court notice, relating to the estate of Daniel Schmidt, deceased, is also published.
Fixed Colony for Chinese.
At a meeting of Workingmen, held on the corner of Kearney and Washington Streets on Monday evening, a Committee was appointed to wait upon the Board of Supervisors and bring before that body the question of removing the Chinese to some selected part of the city, with fixed boundaries, outside of which the race cannot be permitted to live. The meeting resolved that some action was necessary, as owing to the increasing number of Chinese in our midst, and their discriminate association with whites in places of business, in the streets and in the cars of the city, they made it dangerous to the public safety, and if the practice was continued in, the incurable disease of leprosy would be disseminated among our citizens.—S. F. Chronicle.
Louisville, July 8.—First heat and race was won by Tenbroeck; McCarthy distanced. McCarthy led for two miles but stopped at the end of the third mile exhausted. Tenbroeck was badly cramped after the finish Time 8:04.
