This outrageous epistle concludes with a vile attack on the virtues of American women, which cannot be transmitted by cable or reproduced in print. President Grant has issued the following proclamation: From year to year we have been accustomed to pause in our daily pursuits and set apart a time to offer thanks to Almighty God for the special blessings He has vouchesafed to us, with our prayers for a continuance thereof. We have at this time reason to be thankful for his continued protection, and for the many material blessings which His bounty has bestowed. In addition to these favors accorded to us as individuals, we have special occasion to express our heart thanks to Almighty God that, by His providence and guidance, our Government, established a century ago, has thus been enabled to fulfill the purpose of the founders, in offering an asylum to the people of every race, securing civil and religious liberty to all within its borders; and meteing out to every individual justice and equality before the law. It is, moreover, especially our duty to offer our humble praises to the Father of all Mercies for the continuance of his divine favor to us as a nation and its individuals. By reason of all these considerations, I, Ulysses S. Grant, President of the United States, do recommend to the people of the United States to devote the Thirtieth of November next to the expression of their thanks and prayers to Almighty God; and laying aside their daily avocations, and secular occupations, to assemble in their respective places of worship and observe such as a Day of Thanksgiving and rest. A dispatch from Little Rock, Arkansas, dated Oct. 28th, says: Three Methodist ministers, while riding the circuit in Scope County, Arkansas, were shot from the brush yesterday by two illicit distillers named Hughes and Hale. One of the ministers was mortally wounded and died two hours after being shot. The other two were seriously if not fatally wounded. There are large numbers of illicit distillers in that part of the State, and six of these parties have been convicted during this week, in the United States Court of this district. A special from Paris states that at the grand concert yesterday at the Cirqu d'Hiver, given under the direction of Pasdeloup, an attempt was made to perform Siegfried's death march, from Wagner's Nibelungen. Weber's overture to Der Freischutz share a similar fate, so deep-seated is the hate which a French heart bears toward Germany and Germans. SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 27. The Republican meeting at Union Hall last evening, which was addressed by George C. Gorham, was not so brilliant a success in point of audience as that which overcrowded the floors on the occasion of Morton's address, but the attendance was greater than there were seats to accommodate.
