Mrs. Farrell failed to secure a sufficient audience last night, consequently no exposure of materialization took place. It is barely possible that the lady will remain here for a day or two, and she may be induced to give her proposed seance.
If the people of Anaheim don't learn something about Spiritualism, it will not be the fault of those who believe in it, or of those who don't. Last night materialism was to be exposed as a fraud by Mrs. Farrell; this afternoon Dr. Shortridge will prove that mankind owes to spiritualism those grand books, the Old and New Testament; and on Tuesday next we are informed that the noted speaker Mrs. Stow, of San Jose, will visit Anaheim to further enlighten us.
The early hour at which we went to press last evening, prevents us from giving our readers a full report of the Democratic meeting last night. We learn, however, that the following resolution was introduced: Resolved:—That those signing the roll as members of the Anaheim Tilden & Hendricks Democratic Campaign Club be asked to make the following honorable pledge: That they endorse the platform and nominees of the National Democratic Convention at St. Louis; that they are true Democrats and as such will do all in their power to secure the election of the Democratic nominees in November; that they will cast their votes for Tilden and Hendricks, and will devote all the time, consistent with their business and social engagements, toward insuring a Democratic success at the polls in November, and will make no pledge, bargain, promise, trade or bet with any Republican which may invalidate their votes—and all this on their honor as gentlemen, and true Democrats.

Mr. Menzel presented our office yesterday with one of a hundred and seventy-five bottles of wine that he has had buried two years in the ground, or one of two bottles that has been buried for 175 years in the ground. Our ideas on the subject are a little mixed, but the wine was excellent.

An Orange Constable has resigned his responsible position, and the friends of the aspirants for the vacant office are expending a great deal of time, talk and talent to secure the position for their man.
Our butchers furnished us on Christmas with a Christmas beef; today they come to the front with what they call a Centennial Calf. We did not examine the rings on the horns, nor the animal's teeth, but are satisfied to take Mr. Look's word that it is a Centennial calf.
The Railroad Company could not have done a better thing for Anaheim than to omit running the excursion train that was looked for to-day. Instead of having all the short bits and quarters carried off to swell the pockets of the merchants of Los Angeles, many of our citizens will spend their money at home, and doubtless enjoy themselves quite as well.
Santa Ana items.
We clip the following from the Valley News.
Constable Titchenal proposes to arrest all persons who violate the Sunday law by keeping their places of business open on that day.
E. W. Squires, of Orange, we learn, contemplates starting a livery stable here.
R. H. Amon, recently of Los Nietos, more recently of Orange, will soon assume responsibilities at the Bar in our place. Location, Judge Swift's office.
The pugilatic performance on last Saturday evening, at our quiet neighbor, Orange, caused Wm. Conrad to sport a more head and bruised hand, while M. Comilbeon sustained only a few bruises. Such performances are disgusting to well regulated communities.
A Bachelor's Sellage.
Editors Gazette—The endowed is sent to you without even a recommendation from he by whom it was begotten, other than an aim at truth, and also as an offset to a poem entitled "The Bachelor," by Lucretia Davidson, found in work entitled "Postical Remains of the late Lucretia Maria Davidson.
You say it is a cruel shame,
But, my fair one, who's to blame?
(You, of course, permit us me)
That I am an old bachelor, and free.
Well, to that I guilty plead,
So neither witness or counsel need,
But to the jury state the reason why.
For a moment or two I will try:
Gentleman of the jury, may is please the Court,
I will make my brief report.
And show by evidence you won't refuse,
Why a bachelor's life I chose.
First—It hath its measures and hath its pains,
Hath its losses and hath its gains,
But I argue, in a single state
Happiness and pleasure predominate.
While, Your Honor, in married life,
There's contention, turnoff and strife.
At first all faults are quietly condoned.
Forgiven, with klaws, as soon as owned
But soon they weary of such display.
And each endeavor to have their own way:
Then, as Your Honor doth surely know,
Begins the contention that's to end in woe.
A divorce must chance forth be assured,
Or a hell on earth mutually endured;
To allay suspicion, we're sorry to own.
The latter's too often agreed upon—
The world applaud, all approve,
Bard's write grashingly sonnets on love.
The world moves on in its accustomed way—
Licenses and divorces are sold each day,
And souls, more precious than ruins or gold,
To the rich minor are bartered and sold.
Now, Your Honor, may it please Your Grace,
We hereupon rest our case.
Bachelor.

The Hamiltonian Stallion "Cibraltar."
WILL be at the service of horse breeders, from June until September (and perhaps later) and will be at Anaheim, Santa Ana and vicinity, on the 20th day of June. Gibraltar is a deep blood bay, with black legs, mane and tail, weighs 1650 pounds, and is a model of strength in every part; is 15¼ hands high, tour (4) years old, and a natural trotter of extraordinary speed. He was sired by Mr. Titus' trotting stallion "Echo," his dam a mare brought into the county by Judge Evey, of Anaheim, and supposed to be of Belmont stock, and was a fine roadster. The fine size, rich color, good disposition and extraordinary trotting speed of this young horse, command him to all intelligent breeders of horses. Persons wishing to breed to him can apply to Oscar Wills, agent in charge of the horse. Turma, $50 ($10 in advance, balance note payable January 1877.) Mares not proving in foal entitled to next season free.

Who may be suffering from the effect of youthful follicles or indigestion, will do well to avail themselves of this, the greatest boon ever laid at the altar of suffering humanity. Dr. SPINNEY will guarantee to forfeit $200 for every case of seminal weakness, or private disease of any kind or character which he undertakes and fails to cure. He would therefore say to the unfortunate sufferer who may read this notice, that you are trending upon dangerous ground when you longer delay in seeking the proper remedy for your complaint. You may be in the first stage; remember you are approaching the last. If you are bordering upon the last, and are suffering some or all of its effects, remember that if you parasitize procrastination, the time must come when the most skillful physician can render you no assistance; when the door of hope will be closed against you, when no money can bring you relief. In no case has the Doctor failed of success. Then let not despair upon your imagination, but swall yourself of the beneficial results of his treatment before your case is beyond the reach of medical skill, or before grim death hurries you to a premature grave. Full course of treatment $22 00. Send money by Postoffice order or Express with full description of case.
