Mr. James Rust will open a batch shop in Tustin City, on Monday next.
The new town laid out near Costa will be called Centralla, from its proximity to the centre of the valley.
Anaheim has been infested with mosquitoes in the last few days. Mr. Michael Reese has been visiting us, looking after his Allimitas interests.
Hon. H. K. S. O'Melveny, of Los Angeles, was in town yesterday on his return from a visit to Santa Ana and vicinity.
The rain commenced falling about seven o'clock last evening. The grass in many sections was suffering for the want of it.
Their pockets are heavy and their hearts are light on the railway. The pay train was down yesterday disburring coin among the employees of the S. P. R. R.
Messrs. Gadly & Lewis shipped this morning to J. S. Slauson, of Los Angeles, the beautiful plino saddle horse which has been so long the pride of their stables.
Mr. Dolores Garcia, of San Juan Capistrano, was in town yesterday. He reports everything flourishing in that vicinity, but the sheep men are anxiously looking for rain.
After the installation on Monday evening, the members of Anaheim Lodge No. 207, F. & A. M., sat down to an elegant lunch, furnished by the newly installed officers of that lodge.

We understand that among the many attractions of the ball to be given by the L. O. C.'s, on New Years Eve, is a splendid supper to be served at the Anaheim Hotel.
A stranger in town yesterday discovered some forty-rod whisky, and laid in the shade of Callisher's store all day. It always fills us with melancholy when we think of so much good bug juice being wasted on an individual who has no capacity to appreciate it.
Los Angeles Lodge No. 42, F. and A. M., Monday evening installed the following officers for the ensuing Mason's year: S C Foy, W M; M Michaella, S W; J E Jackson, J W; S Meyer, Treasurer; Charles Smith, Secretary; M Ryan, S D; E J Nichols, J D; J F France, W H A Kidd, Stewards; W Woodworth, Marshal; I Hauck, Tyler.

A Los Angeles hack driver took a passenger down to a lonely spot near the river and robbed him of $130.
Mr. J. R. Brierly was in town yesterday, gauging brandy for the distillers.
Several wagon-loads of new-comers for Orange and Santa Ana passed through town yesterday.
The farmers do not appreciate the cold weather. It is not healthy either for beans or early potatoes.
Nothing occurred yesterday to disturb the peace and harmony of our courts.

Dr. J. S. Roberts has returned to Anaheim to remain, and can be found at his office in Metz's building.
It was announced yesterday that a third lumber yard was to be established in Anaheim.
Mr. W. W. Robinson, Master elect of Pentalpha Lodge of F. & A. M., Los Angeles, was in town last night.
The exports from the depot to-day were as follows: 1 box eggs, 5 boxes bacon, 3 bbls hams.
The frost of yesterday morning was the heaviest we have had this year.
A young man, who was present at the discovery of the murdered men, Soso and LeClaire, in Lower California, was in town yesterday.
Mr. Harry Hanna leaves to-day for Los Angeles to take a position in Union, that Dr. D'Amorville has been solicited by his San Diego patients to visit that city, and that he has announced that he will comply with their request sometime during the present week.
At a meeting of Anaheim Lodge, No. 190, L. O. O. F., held on Tuesday evening,the following officers were installed: S H Dyer; N. G T. H. Shelley, V. G.; John J. Hill, recording Secretary; P. C. McKinnick Treasurer.
Last night's Express give the details of a very romantic double suicide, which occurred in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening. The victims were a man named Foster and a woman named Cella Foster, they living been married but a day. Strynine was the polson used. It appears that the woman had a husband named O'Toole, when she married Foster,and that the fear of being punished for bigamy led the twain to commit self-murder.
There will be a musical, literary and gustatory entertainment at Orange on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31st,in the school house under the auspices of the ladies of the Presbyterian Church.The funds raised are to be applied to the purchase of hymn books,sо that all the people especially strangers and visitors,may have the pleasure of joining in the chorus.Suppertickets,50 cents.Ice cream,eTC.,will also be provided.Doors open at 7 P.M.,exercises begin at 7:30.All Anaheim is invited.

Several wagon-loads of new-comers for Orange and Santa Ana passed through town yesterday.

The train from Los Angeles last night was nearly an hour late. The up and down trains passed each other at Costa.
The exports from the depot this morning were: 2 boxes eggs, 26 dry hides, 1 bale sheep pelts, 1 box butter, 2 trunks and 1 bundle harness.
Messrs. Halberstadt & Co. have made great reductions in the price of lumber, both at their yard near town and at the Landing.
The Santa Ana and Gospel Swamp farmers raise their volces loudly in protest against the low price of corn in San Francisco.
A letter has been received at this office from Dr. Ellia. He writes favorably of the state of affairs at the San Fernando tunnel.
There were more than the usual number of teams in from the country yesterday, and the town presented a lively appearance all day.
The new railroad time table goes into effect at three o'clock A.M., January 1st. The mall train from Los Angeles will arrive at Anaheim at 8:30 A.M.
The dancing school was opened last night at Enterprise Hall. The hall was not crowded, but we have no doubt the school will in a short time be a success.

The card of Dr. Gulick, dentist, appears this morning. The Doctor has very pleasant apartments in the Odd Fellow's building.
Mr. Schanklin's sheep camp near Anaheim was robbed on Wednesday night. A gold watch and eighty dollars in coin, besides other articles, were taken away.
Next Monday is the last day for paying your taxes. After that they are dolliquent, and a percentage goes on to the "demnition total" if you haven't paid up.
The attractive manner in which the goods are displayed in the windows of Messrs. Cahen & Willard gives quite a "cityfied" appearance to their store.
The artesian well on the ranch of Mr. J. M. Gibson commenced to flow on Friday last. It is however, not yet completed. The depth reached is 411 feet.
The troops which came down Wednesday evening on the train consisted of Co. G, First Regiment U.S. Cavalry, under command of Brevet-Colonel and Captain Bernard. The detachment comprised 49 men, 50 horses, and 3 wagons. They will probably be five days reaching their destination.
Tim Carroll has fairly established in the mercury business. His business will be based from the Garibee job office to-day, and his ad. will appear in the "Weekly" to-morrow.
The Anaheim Leigh of F. & A. Masson held their first initiation on Thursday evening last—Near.
For "Anahalus" read "Santa Ana" and you will have it right, part.
Next Saturday will be a gala day with the Westminster people. The fourth anniversary of the foundation of the colony will be celebrated by a grand dinner, speeches, etc.
A portmanteau containing sum of money, was lost yesterday between the Postoffice and the GAZETTE office. The finder can reach the owner and relieve his conscience by leaving it at this office.
The earth-roared tobacco has evidently met the anticipations of the inventor of that curious process, as we are told that he will commence seeding ten acres to tobacco, next month, He has rented part of Carroll's farm for the purpose.
The puppy that died at Frank Ey's yesterday might, perhaps, have brought serious grief to the heart of its owner, but it did not affect matters numerically, as Mr. Polhemus' Flash generously donated thirteen more to keep the balance even.
January 1st the trains of the Southern Pacific Railway will run to the tunnel itself, instead of to the town of San Fernando, as heretofore. The change reduces the time between San Francisco and Los Angeles, overland, one hour.

The tense and incisive manner with which you handle this important, but frightfully neglected subject, more important than any church or State matter, is refreshing indeed. It was Christmas present to a stranger here, by A.PETHER.
A man named Harry Gardner was found drowned in the Mariposa Slough, near Merced, on the 18th, in a two-horse wagon. His faithful dog remained in the wagon, watching the dead bodies of his master and the horses, as they lay in the water.
The Rev. Mr.Gibbs, of Augusta, Me., recently delivered a lecture on newspapers, in which he took the ground that editors are very much like the little girl whose curl hung down in the middle of her forehead; when they are good they are very good, and when they are bad they are horrid.
Mr. Busbee says you needn't send the paper to him any more," said a little urehin who stuck his head into the sanctum. "All right," "An' he said to tell you he wouldn't a stopped it only you didn't say nothin' about the big hog he killed last week," continued the youth; and then he slid down the banister into the street. The terse and inclusive manner with which you handle this important, but frightfully neglected subject, more important than any church or State matter, is refreshing indeed. COUNTY DIVISION.—A petition, o which the following is a copy, has been signed by a large number of the most responsible citizens of Anaheim and surrounding towns:
ANAHEIM, Dec. 23, 1855.
The citizens of Los Angeles county south of New River are requested to meet at Kroeger's Hall, in the town of Anaheim, on January 4th, 1876, at 2 o'clock p.m., to discuss the advisability of County Division, and institute proceedings to accomplish it. The county seat not to be finally determined until the expiration of two years. The move is to be entirely free from party politics, being caused solely by the advantage sought for this section of the county.
NEW RAILROAD RULES.—Mr. Tyler, agent for the S. P. R. R. at Anaheim, informs us that on and after January 1st, 1876, ten per cent. will be added to the regular fare if tickets are purchased on the cars instead of at the ticket office. A reduction of freight charges will also take place on January 1st. The rate for merchandise from the anchorage to Anaheim will be $3, instead of $4 now charged, and the rate for grain will be reduced from $3 to $2.60

School District Election Notice.
NOTICE is hereby given to the qualified electors of Spring School District of Los Angeles county, that an election will be held at the Public School House in said district on Monday, January 10th, 1876. The question of voting a tax to build two school houses will be submitted at the election. He will be answer to raise by tax for building two school houses, the sum of five thousand dollars; one in Santa Ana and one in the southern part of the district. The polls will be open between the hours of six o'clock p.m. and four o'clock p.m.
