Negro Troubles in Mississippi.
St. Louis, Aug. 29.
There has been negro troubles in Noxubo Co., Mississippi. A bloody encounter took place near Cross Prairie Church. Dr. J. B. Atwood, at the head of a negro political club, announced himself as a candidate for sheriff. Capt. O'Conner opposed him, and the campaign was very bitter. Last Sunday one of Atwood's clubs rallied on O'Connor's plantation. O'Connor garrisoned the place and on Monday sent to the Mayor for reinforcements. Captain Lucas and 100 men went out; when the negroes raised the seige. Capt. Lucas demanded them to surrender, and ordered them to stack arms. They commenced doing this, and then seized them again, and poured a volley of shot into the company. There has been a reign of terror in the surrounding country for several days.

Stanford on the Failure.
NEW YORK; Aug. 24.
Leland. Stanford arrived in this city on Friday, being called here from his summer vacation by the failure of the Bank of California. He had no idea of the failure when he left San Francisco; there never had been a question in his mind of the good condition of its finances. No one supposed that the speculations of Mr. Ralston could implicate the Bank.
Ralston's Funeral.
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 30.
The funeral of Mr. Ralston to day was the most imposing demonstration ever seen in San Francisco. From an early hour hundreds of people from all parts of the city thronged towards Dr. Phelps' church where the services were held. At 10:30 A.M. the cortege came down Sutter street, both sides of which were lined with thousands of people. Friends of deceased, immediately followed by employees of the Bank of California on foot, large numbers of private carriages containing intimate friends of the dead banker. The space in front of the church was kept clear by the police and military. The services in the church lasted about an hour and a half, and then the procession started for the cemetery. Almost the entire military of the city was in line. There were numerous notables in the procession; also a number of carriages containing the most influential of the Chinese. The Board of Brokers turned out en masse and reverentially walked in procession. The workmen in the Palace Hotel, and the employees of the Kimball Watch Co., and Mission Woolen Mills were in the line, and formed a large procession by themselves alone. The Public Square in front of Dr. Phelps' church was literally packed with people and for three blocks away the streets and windows were crowded with a mass of humanity. On Geary street there was barely room for the funeral cortege to pass. The Bank of California and all buildings there were draped in mourning; as also windows and public places. Photographs of Mr. Ralston bore the insignia of mourning.
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 31.
The Alta says the assets of the Bank of California are twenty million; liabilities thirteen million, surplus capital seven million. Creditors won't lose a dollar. The Chronicle says the highest authority states that no improper use of the bank's securities were made by Mr. Ralston. Ralston's private account was not overdrawn. D.O. Mills and Wm. Sharon will furnish coin to resume business. The largest creditors agree to give ample time, being surprised with the showing of the banks, stating that the Directors and Stockholders will personally extricate the bank from the present embarrassment.

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 30.
At a meeting of the Produce Exchange, held on Saturday Aug. 28th, a committee was appointed to prepare a resolution respecting the death of Wm. C. Ralston and express the sympathy of the Exchange. The following is the report of the committee:
WHEREAS, "The sudden death of Wm. C. Ralston calls for some expression of our sense of his public services and of the loss sustained by his friends. His long career as the head of a leading financial establishment, has made his name familiar to every one. He was a man of remarkable influence and power, and although he never aspired to public life he took a deep interest in promoting the well-fare of this whole coast, and especially in manufacturing, mining and other interests of a wide spread public nature. He was a man of unbounded political and warm personal attachments. Few men have left so many and so sincere friends; therefore
Resolved, That we tender our sincere sympathy to the friends and family of Mr. Ralston.
Resolved, That this action be published in the daily press of this association, and be spread upon the minutes of the Produce Exchange.
(Signed) D. Ballard, M. C. Fashnell, Chas. Clayton, R. H. Bennett.
The San Francisco Stock Board has no present intention of returning to business. Before doing so at least three days notice will be given by the executive committee.
PITTSBURGH, Pa., Aug. 30.
The entire business portion near the Allegheny Valley R. R. was burned yesterday morning, hardware, grocery and clothing stores were burned, also a Masonic Hall in course of construction, and a school house. Loss stated at $100,000, insured for $40,000.
NEW YORK Aug. 30.
The World editorially, is very severe on the directors of the Bank of California, in the absence of specific facts justifying them; and condemns their summary dismissal of Ralston as harsh and impolite. It holds the directors more responsible than the manager, and says private depositors owe it to themselves to have a prompt and full statement before the title of adverse opinion is strengthened.

No Person can take these Bitterts according to directions, and remain long unwell, provided their bones are not destroyed by mineral poison or other means, and vital organs wasted beyond repair.
Billions, Remittent and Intermittent Fevers, which are so prevalent in the valleys of our great rivers throughout the United States, especially those of the Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Cumberland, Arkansas, Red, Colorado, Rio Grande, Pearl, Alabama, Mobile, Savannah, Roanoke, James, and many others, with their vast tributaries throughout our entire country during the Summer and Autumn, and remarkably so during seasons of unusual heat and dryness, are invariably accompanied by extensive arrangements of the stomach and liver, and other abdominal visceres. In their treatment, a purgative, exerting a powerful influence upon these various organs, is essentially necessary. There is no cathartic for the purpose equal to Dr. J. WALKER'S VINEGAR BITTERS, as they will speedily remove the dark-colored viscid matter with which the bowels are loaded, at the same time stimulating the secretions of the liver, and generally restoring the healthy functions of the digestive organs.
Fortify the body against disease by purifying all its fluids with VINEGAR BITTERS. No epidemic can take hold of a system thus fore-armed.
