SATURDAY...AUG. 28, 1875.
From Saturday's Daily.
Another Independent meeting will be held in Anaheim on Wednesday night.
County Surveyor Seebold says he has heard 567 political speeches during this campaign and has not heard a single new idea expressed.
The McFadden steamer sailed from San Francisco on Monday. She is expected to arrive at Newport Landing today.
Beeche is an admirer of nature, and of any of her productions. This office is indebted to him for many vegetable products of peculiar form, size, and color.
The advertisement of D. Nagle will be found in our columns to-day. Mr. Nagle bears a fine reputation as a workman, and guarantees satisfaction to all who may patronize him.
Judge Wiseman, we learn, will speak at El Monte on Wednesday night; Thursday night at Spadina; Friday night at Anaheim and Saturday night at Wilmington.
The candidates of the Independent party are making a most thorough canvass of the county. It is seldom that any county has had such a number of good men to choose from.
Three unknown persons engaged in an altercation, near the site of the new hotel, last night. After a war of words two pistol shots were fired in rapid succession, and two of the party were seen pursuing the third. The night-watchman was unable to learn

The nomination of Mr. Kremer for Tax Collector was a happy stroke. Having lived in the county somewhat less than a century, and having filled many offices of trust with satisfaction to the people and honor to himself, he will receive an overwhelming vote. He is personally held in high esteem by all who know him.
Mr. Kiden's admirable pamphlet on the resources of Southern California, is no longer in the lander's hands, and will be finished in about a week. While the articles, of which this pamphlet is composed, were being published in the Gazette, they attracted great attention for the practical and statistical information which they contained.
Take aim for all in all, probably no man who has ever been elected to office in Los Angeles county has made a more satisfactory official than Mr. Gillette. He is to-day under the disadvantage of being unable to elect one efficiently, the duties of his position being exacting and requiring constant personal attention. Mr. Gillette has never been surpassed in his close attention to business, and the office of Recorder demands just such qualities in the man who fills it. He is entitled to the compliment of a single re-election, and will undoubtedly receive it. We learn that his strength in the country districts is overwhelming, and, as he beat his opponent at the last election one hundred and fifty votes in the city, his success should be regarded as a foregone conclusion of our local campaign.—Express.

We, really, do not know but few men who will vote for Mr. Houghton, and why they support him is more than we can interpret. Apart from his shameful part in politics—his vote on the odious Civil Rights bill and the unconstitutional Force bill, and his endorsement of a Third Term for the Long Branch jockey—there is no case on record where a Congressman has done so much mischief as this man Houghton. His opposition to the wool and fruit tariff, and his base attempt, as a Congressman and attorney of the Central Pacific Railroad, to cut this county off from direct railroad communication last winter, ought to settle him with an independent thinking people. And it will.—Star.
It has been practically demonstrated that the Gospel Swamp region is a first-class wheat growing country. Several patches have been planted in different parts of the Swamp, and they have invariably turned out good crops.
The first of September being election day, the County Superintendent of Schools has postponed the meeting of the County Board of Examiners, until Thursday, September 2nd. Candidates for teacher's certificates will make a note of this.
LADIES,
Do you want a pure, blooming complexion? If so, a few applications of HAGAN'S MAGNOLIA BALM will gratify you to your heart's content. It does away with redness, blotches, and pimples. Overcomes the flushed appearance of heat, fatigue and excitement.

VINEGAR BITTERS
Dr. J. Walker’s California Vinegar Bitters are a purely Vegetable preparation made chiefly from the native herbs found on the lower ranges of the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, the medicinal properties of which are extracted therefrom without the use of Alcohol. The question is almost daily asked, “What is the cause of the unparalleled success of Vinegar Bitters!” Our answer is, that they remove the cause of disease, and the patient recovers his health. They are the great blood purifier and a life-giving principle; a perfect Renovator and Invigorator of the system. Never before in the history of the world has a medicine been compounded possessing the remarkable qualities of Vinegar Bitters in healing the sick of every disease man is heir to. They are a gentle Purgative as well as a Tonic relieving Congestion or Inflammation of the Liver and Visceral Organs, in Billions Diseases.

Pin, Tape, and other Worms; lurking in the system of so many thousands; are effectually destroyed and removed. No system of medicine, no vermifuges, no anthelmintics will free the system from worms like these Bitters.
For Female Complaints, in young or old, married or single, at the dawn of womanhood, or the turn of life, these Tonic Bitters display so decided an influence that improvement is soon perceptible.
Cleanse the Vittated Blood whenever you find its impurities bursting through the skin in Pimples, Eruptions, or Sores; cleanse it when you find it obstructed and singlish in the veins; cleanse it when it is foul; your feelings will tell you when. Keep the blood pure, and the health of the system will follow.
