The Express has a good word for Gillette. It says: Mr. Gillette, the Independent candidate for Recorder, is now serving his first term in that office, and has made, by the confession of everyone, especially efficient official. He has lived in Los Angeles county since 1867. We believe he has been Republican in politics, although not a pronounced partisan. He is a "rustler" and is unmistakably popular. He is able and energetic. If elected to the office for a second term, Mr. Gillette promises to fulfill its duties as though he were going to run for a third time, although he promises to retire if so elected, not being a believer in third terms. There is hardly any doubt among the discerning but that he will be elected.
If a merchant has had a clerk for a number of years who discharges his duties faithfully; who is industrious, capable and honest, he will not dismiss such a man simply because he has been a long time in his employ, and believes that he can engage some other person possessing equally desirable qualifications. The people, as employers of the officials necessary to carry on the business of government, would be guilty of a very unbusiness-like proceeding if they would dismiss from office an official, who has been true and faithful to the trusts committed to him, and against whom can only be urged a long term of office. Although the county campaign has just been begun, it is tolerably certain that this will be the only point which the antagonists of Thos. E. Rowan, candidate for County Treasurer, will rely upon to secure his defeat. We believe that the opposition will require to bring forward some other argument than this to accomplish their

The Common Council of Los Angeles have directed their Clerk to communicate with the Board of Supervisors and ask them for their co-operation to build a Court House, Jail, etc.

The Los Angeles Herald says: On July 19th a German brought to this office an advertisement signed Mr. Mosmann, Anaheim. He represented himself as Mr. Mosmann, paid for the "ad" and left. The real Mr. Mosmann, an old and well known citizen of Anaheim, called at this office yesterday and assured us that he neither authorised the publication nor does he know the individual who authorized it. If that party is not ashamed of his work he will please call at this office and leave his name for Mr. Mosmann.

David Davies and Richard Barham are the latest aspirants for the office of Constable, their announcement appearing for the first time to-day. Davies has filled the position for several terms. His success in the pursuit and capture of criminals is well-known, and his services will no doubt be rewarded by the votes of the people on election day. Mr. Barham is a genial, whole-souled gentleman, who will be hard to beat.
Anaheim has at last eventuated in a daily newspaper, and the first number of the Anaheim Evening Gazette is on our table. Its publishers, the Messrs. Melrose & Athearn, have leaped the Rubicon and have fairly inaugurated the enterprise. The Gazette looks well and promises well. As a weekly it was always the most prized of our exchanges, and its proprietors will not be likely to interrupt their labs now that they have entered on this bold experiment. The columns of the Gazette are well-filled with advertisements, and the Messrs. Melrose & Athearn would seem to be justified in their experiment. The fact that Anaheim seventeen or eighteen years ago was a castle jungle, and that it now rejoices in a creditable daily, shows very conclusively the rapid way the interior motions of Los Angeles county are stirling up—Los Angeles Express.

Late Improvements render the FLORENCE more than ever the best for Family use.

Gar'a, Bill-heads, Circular Labels, and every other kind of printing done at this office.
For Inflammatory and Chronic Rheumatism, Gout, Biliors, Remittent and Intermittent Feveres, Diseases of the Blood, Liver, Kidneys and Bladder, these Bitterns have no equal. Such Diseases are caused by Vitilated Blood.
Mechanical Diseases.—Persons engaged in Paints and Minerals, such as Pimbers, Type-setters, Gold-bearers, and Miners, as they advance in life, are subject to paralysis of the Bowels. To guard against this, take a dose of WALKER'S VINEGAR Bitterns occasionally.
For Skin Diseases, Eruptions, Tetter, Salt-Rheum, Biotheses, Spots, Pimpled Pustules, Boils, Calcincles, King-worms, Scald-head, Sore Eyes, Erysipelas, Itch, Scurfs, Discolorations of the Skin, Humors and Diseases of the Skin of whatever name or nature, are literally dug up and carried out of the system in a short time by the use of these Bitterns.
Pin, Tape, and other Worms larking in the system of so many thousands are effectually destroyed and removed. No system of medicine, no vermifiges, no anthelmintics will free the system from worms like these Bitterns.
For Female Complaints, in young or old; married or single; at the dawn of womanhood; or the turn of life; these Tomia Bitterns display no decided influence that improvement is soon perceptible.
Cleanse the Vitiated Blood when ever you find its impurities bursting through the skin in Pimples, Eruptions, or Sores; cleanse it when you find it obstructed and sluggish in the veins; cleanse it when it is foul; your feelings will tell you when. Keep the blood pure, and the health of the system will follow.
