MEETING OF WHARF DIRECTORS.—On Monday afternoon, the Directors of the Wharf Company met at the house of President Fisher. A long discussion was had as to the advantage of substituting some amendments to the original specifications for building the wharf. The amendments proposed were finally adopted. The bonds offered by the contractor were read, but on account of some irregularity in form were rejected, and a committee, consisting of Messrs. Helmann and Fields were appointed to accompany Mr. Gay to Los Angeles and arrange the question of bonds satisfactorily. The Articles of Incorporation were signed by the Board, and ordered filed with the County Clerk and Secretary of State. The meeting then adjourned subject to the call of the President. On Thursday afternoon a meeting of the Board was again called to receive the report of Messrs. Helmann and Fields. Every member of the Board was present except M. R. Craig, of Westminster, who had not received a notification of the meeting. The Committee reported that Mr. Gay had failed in procuring bondsmen in Los Angeles, and that, although he professed to be able to give any number of responsible bondsmen in San Francisco, he might again be mistaken; they therefore suggested the propriety of not having further business connection with that gentleman. The Board approved their report and instructed the Secretary to inform Mr. Gay of their action. The Secretary was further ordered to communicate with all persons who had presented bids for the construction of the wharf, informing them of modifications in the original specifications and requesting new proposals from them, to be opened on Saturday, August 1st. Frank R. Lafaucherie was appointed Assistant to the Secretary, as so much work had accumulated that it required constant application for some weeks to come. His salary was fixed at $30 per month for three months. The Board then adjourned to meet on Saturday, August 1st, at the office of the President.
LETTER FROM ORANGE.—A valued correspondent sends us the following: Permit us through your valuable columns to furnish the public a notice of the new enterprise inaugurated by Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Larkin, of San Jose, seconded by the energetic citizens of this place. M. Guin will be found under its appropriate head. Mr. Guin and his wife left for San Francisco on Wednesday morning, to be absent about ten days.
—Rev. Mr. Loop will hold Episcopal services at Enterprise Hall, tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. We are informed that arrangements have been perfected to have the reverend gentleman preach here regularly.
—Last Monday a Mexican, employed upon the steam thresher, had his hand badly lacerated, the finger nails being entirely torn out by the roots. He received prompt surgical attendance, however, and is doing well.
—At a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Anaheim School District, held on Tuesday, the same corps of teachers were re-elected for the next year. The new session will commence on Monday August 10th.
—Now is the time of year when an exodus to the Hot Springs is in order. Several of our citizens, among whom were Messrs. Goodman, Schubert, Kraemer and Struck, have gone to test the virtues of the water.

—The supposed agent for the railroad public lands in this vicinity refuses to acknowledge any business connection with a railway corporation. Possibly, as he is not a Democrat, he may be correct in his assertion.
—In the case of Wartenberg vs. Heffner for maintaining a nuisance, Judge O'Melveny decided in favor of plaintiff but reduced damages from $75 to $35. A stay of proceedings for twenty days was granted, upon motion of defendant's counsel, asking for a new trial.
—At the close of a recent school examination of the Willmington, Delaware, public schools, Miss Lucy Hanna, a niece of our fellow-townsman, John Hanna Esq., was presented with a beautiful gold medal, the Adams prize for superiority in general scholarship.
—Heimann & George, P. Richards, and F. Conrad have discarded coal oil, and now use gas. The article gives general satisfaction and a brilliant light. As soon as the necessary meters arrive, nearly every business house in Anaheim will be lit with gas.
—Friend Wartenburg is unquestionably a victim to misplaced confidence. On Wednesday Judge O'Melveny non-suited him and yesterday his team followed suit and didn't suit him because they ran away. Nobody hurt, however, except Mrs. Metz' sycamore tree.
—a party of Fifty Master Masons will leave New York on September 12, to visit the Lands of the East. These gentlemen will be absent about five months, and the cost will be comparatively moderate. P. A. Clark, Secretary of Anaheim Lodge, prepared to give all information on the subject.

At a mass meeting, Mr. McPherson was elected chairman, and Mrs. Dr. Larkin was introduced. She stated the object of the meeting to be the establishment of an Invalid's home and hotel, and also the general good of the people of this plain, in a very eloquent and business manner. The amount necessary to insure the successful accomplishment of the object to be raised by sale of stock, and the following persons were elected Directors: Mr. Messinger, J. W. Anderson, M. A. Peters, Robt. McPherson, and P. Bowers. Messrs. Chapman and Glassell were added to the Board. At a more recent meeting, Mr. Messinger was elected chairman, and Messrs. Dr. Larkin, Robt. McPherson, A. Kolsky and J. W. Anderson were appointed to select a building site, and act as building committee, with power to contract for lumber, adopt plans, and levy assessments. J. W. Anderson was elected Treasurer. The building site is just opposite Dr. Beach's hall and adjoining Company's office, a lovely and convenient location. Water can be had for baths, fountains and irrigation in abundance, and a beautiful grove of evergreens add greatly to its pleasantness. We understand that the lumber is soon to be provided and work to begin on this important enterprise. We have no doubt but that the institution is a fixture with us, as the persons who are engaged in it insure its successful completion and operation. A retreat for invalids, surrounded by orange groves, almond and walnut orchards, orderly and fruitful vineyards, with pleasant drives, and the most picturesque scenery of California, together with its healthful climate and good society, cannot fail to restore health, and insure the place great prosperity.

INSANE.-On Monday morning Geo.R. Doolittle made complaint before Judge Bailey, charging one Robert Ore with assault. It seems that the defendant was employed as sheep-herder by plaintiff, and that on Monday morning whilst lighting a fire he was attacked with a fit. Doolittle himself then began to kindle the fire, and while so engaged, Ore, who had in the meantime recovered, attacked him with an axe, but he succeeded in getting beyond his reach. Ore then turned his attention to a fellow-employee whom he attempted to strike, but he himself received a severe blow with a club, knocking him senseless. Constable Davies was sent out with a warrant, secured his man, and placed him in jail. Judge Bailey was so well satisfied of his insanity, that on Tuesday he sent him to the County Judge for
On Wednesday Judge O'Melveny non-attended him and yesterday his team followed suit and did not suit him because they ran away. Nobody hurt, however, except Mrs. Metz sycamore tree.
A party of Fifty Master Masons will leave New York on September 12 to visit the Lands of the East. These gentlemen will be absent about five months, and the cost will be comparatively moderate. P.A. Clark, Secretary of Anaheim Lodge, prepared to give all information on the subject.
The completion of Las Bolsas survey has been deferred until the return of Mr. Crawford from San Bernardino, at which place his presence as Chief Engineer of the Los Angeles and Indemnance Railway, was required during the latter part of the present week.
The last circular of E.E. Morgan's Sons gives the following information about the price of wool: Long Free, 24 @28c; Short Free, 20@22lc; Long Burry, 20@22lc; Short Burry, 19@21c; Choice Northern, 28@32c. The market is quiet but firm, with a stock of about 850,000 pounds. Desirable wools vary more.
We insert to-day the advertisement of the Grange Co-operative Store of Los Angeles, to which we would call the attention of Patrons of the Order. Under the able management of John H. Seymour the enterprise, thus far, has been attended with a success, far exceeding the expectations of its originators. The business is conducted on a cash basis, although all kinds of farm and dairy produce are resolved at their market values.
From our Orange correspondent: Mr. Cutterback has just completed a large new barn. Mr. Harwood has recolled vines that were put out this year bearing large luscious muscats. Mr. Purling's school gave a general examination last Friday that did him and his pupils great credit. The Union Sunday School gave an excellent entertainment Friday night. Socially and financially it was a marked success. The much credit could not be awarded to Mrs. L. Lockhart and the ladies for this enjoyable affair. Orange counts itself again since Capt. Glassell returned looking so well and smiling, adding his counsel to her adventment.
Dissolved.-The firm of Nebelung & Steinhart has dissolved. Max will continue to provide for the tired and hungry wayfarer as of yore.
