SATURDAY...JUNE 20,1874.
Kleinigkeiten.
Wille has just finished the construction of a 9,000 gallon water tank.
A ball will be given at Santa Ana on the evening of July 3d. See the advertisement.
Letters of administration have been granted to S. A. Baker in the estate of R. M. Baker of Orange.
Suit has been commenced in the District Court to obtain a partition of Los Palos Verdes rancho.
Rev. W. A. Knighten, of Orange, will hold services in the Presbyterian Church to-morrow at 11 o'clock, A. M.
Clark & Austin will receive by steamer a complete assortment of fireworks and flags for the Fourth.
Tickets for the ball to be given at Enterprise Hall on Wednesday evening can be had at all the stores, and by application to the committee.
The work of laying gas-pipe has been temporarily suspended until a fresh supply of pipe is received from San Francisco.
Read the announcement of the Fourth of July Committee. The Stroble grounds will be the scene of the festivities to take place on that day.
Heimann & George have made arrangements to ship grain and produce, and will advance money on the same on Lighter Company's receipts.
The trial of Ascendon Velasquez, indicted for assault upon his wife with intent to commit murder, has been set for next Wednesday at 2 P.M.
Francisco Lopez failed to put in an appearance before the County Court on Monday, and his ball was therefore declared forfeited.
All the patent medicines, advertised for sale on the fourth page of this paper can be found at the Anaheim Drug Store.
The restaurant which is advertised for sale has a good paying patronage, and presents a splendid chance for somebody to make money.
Helmann & George will receive a large hay-scale in a few days. It will be located on Los Angeles Street near the Odd Fellows' Hall.
Rhodes vs. Smith was the title of a little suit which came up before Justie Bailey on Thursday. The case was submitted to a jury, who returned a verdict of one dollar in favor of the defendant.
During the week we printed tickets for a grand raffle, which will come off shortly. The prize is a piano, and is considered to be one of the best instruments in town. It is put up at a ridiculously low figure—100 chances at $50 a chance. Due notice of the time and place of "shaking" will be given through these columns.
Quite a serious accident happened to certain of the members of Don Prudencia Yorba's family, whilst out riding on last Sunday. In ascending a very steep hill, the seats tilted backwards, throwing from the wagon all its occupants. Mrs. Yorba and her infant daughter received severe contusions upon the head and shoulders, the oldest daughter had an arm broken, and still another daughter was most severely injured.
The "Illustrated Press" party were in town last Monday, gathering facts and figures in relation to Anaheim and vicinity. Several views were taken by the photographer, who, by the way, is the same artist that accompanied Mark Twain on his trip to the Holy Land, and whose views of that locality were incorporated in the "Innocents Abroad"
Among the views taken in Anaheim were the vineyard of B. Dreyfus and the residences of Messra. Hardin and Olden. The party have gone to San Diego.
On Wednesday morning a fire was discovered in the back portion of the Star Restaurant. It seems that a Ceitial, employed in the Chin se laundry, next door to the restaurant, got up in the morning, made a fire in the back yard, and feeling a little tired returned to bed. When the fire was discovered it had communicated to a pile of lumber belonging to Backs Bros.and was rapidly assuming the guise of a serious conflagration. It was extinguished however without damage, except to the lumber and a fence in the rear of the lot.

The restaurant which is advertised for sale has a good paying patronage, and presents a splendid chance for somebody to make money.
Helmann & George will receive a large hay-scale in a few days. It will be located on Los Angeles Street near the Odd Fellows Hall.
The schooner "St. Lucas" arrived at Anaheim Landing on last Sunday with 332,000 feet of lumber for Halberstadt & Co.
The election for School Trustees in the several districts will be held on June 27th. Theo Rimpan Esq., is the retiring trustee in the Anaheim district.
The north Anaheim Canal Company levied an assessment of $10 per share, and not $20, as published last week. One of those typographical errors, you know.
Road Overseers will take notice that a special meeting (of the Board of Supervisors?) will be held in Los Angeles on next Thursday, at which they are ordered to be present.
Dr. Stanway, of Los Angeles, has just received from Mexico, ten thousand lime trees from two to four years old which are now in nursery and can be bought at reasonable prices.
We would call the attention of parents and guardians to the notices, published this week by the Boards of Trustees of Fairview, Westminster and San Juan Capistrano School Districts.
The District Council of Patrons of Husbandry for Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties will meet in Anaheim on the second Tuesday in August.
Michael Reese has commenced suit against Sheriff Rowland to recover $2,252.74 for wrong collection of taxes from plaintiff on 26,631 acres of land in Alamitos rancho.
The Pacific Mail Steamship Company's steamer Pacific sails from Wilmington this afternoon on the arrival of the four o'clock train from Los Angeles.
The Secretary of the Anaheim Turn-veroin will in a few days notify those members whose dues are in arrears. It is necessary that the back dues be paid immediately, as the creditors of the association are becoming clamorous.
The members of the Union Sabbath School desire to return their thanks to the Presbyterian Choir of Anaheim, and to testify their appreciation of the excellent concert given by them for the benefit of said school.
We understand that the steamer Monterey of Goodall Nelson & Perkins' Line, which will arrive at San Pedro today, will after discharging her freight attempt a landing at the wharf at Newport.
Irvine, Flint & Co., of the San Joaquin rancho, intend building at appearance before the County Court on Monday, and his ball was therefore declared forfeited.

The road commissioner is sadly wanted between Orange and San Juan Capistrano. There may be a road between those two places, but we doubt very much if the oldest citizen could find it.
The following deeds have been filed for record in the Clerk's office: A. B. Chapman to C. W. Tarr, 10 acres in Santa Ana; A. B. Chapman to Gustave Davis, two building lots in Orange; A. L. Bush to Hattie Baldwin, two lots in the town of Santa Ana.
Charlie Wright has come out in a new role. He has transformed himself into a live "Guide to the Tourist" and passed down San Diego on Tuesday with a Concord coach, loaded with Eastern sightseeers. We know of no one more competent to "fill the bill."
The Angle and Mitchell suit bids fair at its present rate of continuance to rival Jarndyce vs. Jarndyce. It was tried again last week and as his Honor, the County Judge, had only decided the case twice before the present trial, he found it necessary to take the matter under advisement until Wednesday.
He was young, he was fair, and he parted his hair, like the average bean, in the middle; he was proud, he was bold, but the truth must be held, he plays like a fland on the accordion; and we beseech Conrad to get a better musician, and relieve us from the torture we have undergone during the past week.
It is hard work to make them see it. In Connecticut and the country generally the decline in labor is not as fast, but it is coming. Goods of many kinds are as low as ever known and the rest must come. I look for a fair healthy trade based on specie in four years. "Every tub" has got to stand on its own bottom," and Government influence with currency, building railroads or any other fancy scheme has got to be done away with. The sooner a community or an individual wakes up to the idea of helping themselves, and not waiting for Government aid, the sooner and better they will be helped. If we can only get back to specie payments, we shall stop growing poor, which we are doing as a people at a furious rate. We can see quite a difference this season, and if the thing can keep on, we shall be down to hard pan and paying our way again. We have been living on paper by borrowing for the past ten years. United States, states, cities, boroughs, towns, religious and civil societies, railroads, canals, all kinds of private enterprises and individuals, all borrow, borrow, and renew, and none ever pay. The time has come when this thing is looked at as it should be, and borrow is played out. A paper circulates in private throughout the East, showing the number of railroads and other corporations, states, counties and towns that do not pay interest, covering several hundred millions. The warning is too plain not to be read, and the economy practised is continually growing. The days of such men as compose the present Congress are numbered. We are going to have a new deal, and any party that wins in future, must be pledged to economy and reform. Many look for a big disaster this Fall, but I look for better times. Many failures are taking place, but of men with no goods and plenty of notes. It is troublesome times, but panic does not come when men are trying to live economically."
A. Korn & Co., in their cellar, the Old-Fellow Hall, have constantly added a full assortment of the best WINES QUOLES, which they sell at San Francisco in quantities to suit.
