Examinations will be held in the Grammar school on Wednesday and Thursday. In the Intermediate school Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, and in the Primary school Friday afternoon. —An inspection of our job office by Geo. A. Tiffany, of the Los Angeles Express, a first-class printer, elicited his unqualified admiration at the completeness of its appointments. Our recent purchases in San Francisco, for this department, have been very extensive, and we can assure our patrons that satisfaction will be given in all cases. —We have obtained the correct form for certificates of partnership under the Code provision, relating to business firms. As these certificates must be advertised for four weeks, and as the six months of grace expires in July, it will be necessary that all, who intend to comply with the law, should advertise at once. —Ascencion Velasquez, a half breed resident of Anaheim, was arrested on yesterday for cruelly beating his wife and assaulting her with a hammer, cocked pistol, stick of wood and a little hatchet with intent to do her great harm. After a careful hearing of the evidence, Justice Bailey committed the prisoner in default of bail to appear before the next Grand Jury. —We have received through the hands of Messrs. A. L. Our next issue will be printed from entirely new type. —As the subject of water is creating so much interest in the district immediately around Anaheim, we would be happy to afford anyone who has something to say upon the subject, the convenience of our columns. —Quite a pleasant time occurred on last Saturday evening at the residence of Judge J. W. Clark, in West Anaheim. The occasion was the anniversary birth-day of Byron Clark, who was really, though most agreeably, surprised by the young folks among his acquaintance. —Things don't always go to please us, especially when an attempt is made to put a header machine together with a wind-mill shaft and its appurtenances. This conclusion has been reached by a very worthy young farmer, living west of town, who made such an attempt and didn't make it work. —The following deeds were filed during the past week: P. These gentlemen have lately organized and placed under the management of Mr. W. H. Knight, a music department, where will be found a complete assortment of Pianos, Organs, Melodeans, and Musicial Publications. —As the Board of Supervisors meet on Monday, we would beg to call their attention to the entire absence of guide-boards on the roads in the southern part of the county. Not only strangers, but old residents are frequently put to considerable trouble and annoyance by the absence of these "directories," as witness the predicament of our friend, Superintendent Peck, during his late official tour. We respectfully urge upon the Honorable Board the necessity of remedying an evil, which is detrimental to the welfare of our county, and to the comfort of travelers therein. —Mr. Corney, of Los Nietos, says the Los Angeles Express, has made some very successful experiments in raising cotton in this county. He planted a row twenty-six yards long and from the fifty stalks there grown, raised over one hundred pounds of seed cotton. The stalks did not die, but have sprouted out again, and give every indication of another crop. The texture of the cotton is equal to that in the Gulf States. The opinion of the gentleman named is that cotton will grow in this valley on land slightly impregnated with alkali as well or better than in soil entirely free from it. The Law Concerning Partnerships. We publish to-day the provisions of the Code, regarding partnerships. Publication as required by the Code must be made prior to June 30th, in default of which firms, affected by the law, will lose their legal standing as well as right of suit in any of the State courts. Notice as required may be published in any paper in Los Angeles county, either daily or weekly. The sections of the Code are as follows: 2466—Except as otherwise provided in the next section, every partnership transacting business in this State under a factious name, or a designation not showing the names of the persons interested as partners in such business, must file with the Clerk of the county in which its principal place of business is situated a certificate stating the names in full of all the members of such partnership, and their place of residence, and publish the same once a week for four successive weeks, in a newspaper published in the county, if there be one, and if there be none in such county, then in a newspaper published in an adjoining county. 2467—A commercial or banking partnership, established and transacting business in a place without the United States, may, without filing the certificate or making the publication prescribed in the last section, use in this State the partnership name and its description. A Chapter of Accidents. —Misfortunes never come singly, and when a man sees the new moon over his left shoulder through the trees, he may look out for breakers ahead during the next four weeks. Louis Wartenburg is an evidence of the correctness of the above assertion. He found it necessary to go to law to rid himself of nuisance, and on the day after he had won his suit, just as he was bringing the "lightning express" safely to an anchorage, he was arrested for perjury at the instance of his old opponent. Being thus deprived of their charioteer, the fiery stodds of said "lightning express" started out on a venture. Taking all the wagons, carriages and other vehicles in their line of flight, they finally collided with an awning post in front of Goodman & Kimpau's store, knocked it down, almost killed one of themselves and upset the coach. "Louis" got clear from the charge of perjury as there was no evidence of his having done anything of the kind, but he seems to think he is somewhat out of pocket from his legal experience. A PLEASANT EVENING—The concert, advertised to be given by the Choir of the Presbyterian church at Orange school house, in behalf of the Orange Union Sunday School, passed off very pleasantly last evening before a large and appreciative audience. As we have already A commercial or banking partnership, established and transacting business in a place without the United States, may, without filing the certificate or making the publication prescribed in the last section, use in this State the partnership name used by it there, although it be fictitious or do not show the names of the persons interested as partners in such business. 2468—The certificate filed with the Clerk, as provided in section 2467, must be signed by the partners, and acknowledged by some officer authorized to take the acknowledgment of conveyances of real property. Where the partnership is hereafter formed, the certificate must be filed, and the publication designated in that section must be made within one month after the formation of partnership, or within one month from the time designated in the agreement of its members for the commencement of the partnership; where the partnership has been herefore formed, the certificate must be filed and the publication made within six months after the passage of this Act. Persons doing business as partners contrary to the provisions of this article shall not maintain any action upon or on account of any contracts made or transactions bad in their partnership's name, in any court of this State, until they have first filed the certificate and made the publication herein required. 2,469—On every change in the members of a partnership transacting business in this State under a fictitious name, or a designation which does not show the names of the persons interested as partners in its business, except in the cases mentioned in section 2,467, a new certificate must be filed with the county clerk, and a new publication made, as required by this article, on the formation of such partnership. 2,470—Every county clerk must keep a register of the names of firms and persons mentioned in the certificates filed with him pursuant anything of the kind, but he seems to think he is somewhat out of pocket from his legal experience. A PLEASANT EVENING—The concert, advertised to be given by the Choir of the Presbyterian church at Orange school house, in behalf of the Orange Union Sunday School, passed off very pleasantly last evening before a large and appreciative audience. As we have already spoken of the performance at some length—the same programme, given at the concert here, having been repeated—we will not enter into a lengthy account of the evening's amusement. The frequent and genuine applause showed a most thorough appreciation of good music upon the part of the Richland folks, and the crowded hall evidenced well their spirit of liberality. MARRIED.
